These are the home-building projects chosen by Dominican Starfish Foundation for 2016. Considering choosing a family to sponsor and raise the funds with friends and family. It is an amazing experience. We are currently building house #29 since April 2013.
2. We currently have 6 families
looking for sponsors to help
build them a home in 2016
• The cost of building a home in the Dominican
Republic is about $9500 USD. If you and your
family/friends would like to sponsor one of these
families, or help in some way, please email for
more information at dominicanstarfish@gmail.com
4. A New Home for Bierka and her 3 small children.
Bierka and her 3 young daughters (Jasmil, Adarleny, and Yamileiny) live in Puerto
Plata, Dominican Republic. Bierka's husband passed away of a heart attack recently
and they need our help. She struggles to pay the rent and owning their own home
would allow her to give her children basic necessities like daily meals.
Bierka's middle child, Adarleny (age 4), is attending the ILP program at the Javillar
school and will receive an English education free of charge which will open many
doors for her and her family.
Some of the ILP employees raised money to buy
a piece of land for Bierka to have a home built.
5. # 2. David and More and their 5
children. This family live in a tiny, tiny home about 9’
by 12’. There is only one bedroom. The
oldest girl lives with her grandmother
because the family doesn’t have room in
their home. The father is a fisherman. They
own their little piece of land in Javillar.
10. Jasmin and her two children live in Javillar,
Dominican Republic in a home that is literally
falling down. It is being held together by rags.
The mom does any little job she can find to
feed and support her children. The home is so
bad that we were afraid to touch anything
while inside.
11. The young mom in this home works
any little job she can find to provide
for her two children. The little girl is
in the ILP program. The boy is 10
13. This young couple have not been able to have children. They adopted
the young boy that you see in the picture. His parents left him and his 8
siblings and disappeared one night. The couple adopted one of the
children and try to feed about 4 of them every day. We met several of
the children on our walk around the community.
They have managed to get a small piece of land which is very close to
Amarilis’ house to build a small two bedroom home. They are working
hard to better their lives as well as helping others around them.
14. Gloria Vasquez is a 70 year old lady.

15. # 6. A new floor for Francisca
Francisca is a 63 year old lady who is nearly
blind with glaucoma. She is completely blind
in one eye. For many years her home has
been flooding with every major rain. She has
earned a living by making corn bread and
juice and selling it from her home.
When the foundation build Ramon’s home she asked if she could have the left-over fill.
With a wheel-barrow and shovel, she hauled the dirt into the home herself to raise up the
level of the floor about 2 feet.
Amarilis has asked if we can help her get a floor and a bathroom. She is raising a grand-
daughter who was born to an 11 year old mother after a tragic act from a neighbor.
The cost for this project is estimated at $3000 USD
