Dear Judges:
My name is Lucas Knecht, and I am nineteen years old. I am very proud to introduce my senior
project to you. At the beginning of my senior year, I did not have a clue on what I should do my
senior project on. I went from idea to idea but nothing I could think of really sounded like
something I truly, deep down, wanted to do. I did come to a conclusion, however; I wanted to
give back to the place that had given me a wonderful childhood. I collected small donations of
second-hand soccer equipment such as cleats, balls, shin guards, and clothes and sent them back
to Saipan for unfortunate children.
My research paper was how the unemployment rate of the Northern Mariana Islands affects the
economy of the islands. As found in my research paper, the locals of the islands had incredibly
low income averages for the last couple of years. With this low income rate for the average
person, it was concluded that help was necessary to keep the love for soccer on the island alive.
Therefore my product was to gather the needed items for my product was, at times frustrating. I
was patient with the people I worked with and eventually I had the outcome I was looking for. I
collected over three boxes of cleats, one box of shin guards and a ball bag full of balls. I also
have two boxes full of shorts, shirts, and socks.
After what I have done with my project, I realize I really enjoy working with people. I also love
the feeling of accomplishment I have when I see that I have helped another person. Given these
discoveries, I will be attending College of Coastal Georgia this fall, and I have decided to go into
public affairs. The school is the second fastest growing college in the University System of
Georgia.
The senior project has been the biggest obstacle of my senior year. I do believe that the senior
project is something that every graduating senior should do. It is a wonderful idea for a capstone
project to reveal what we have learned over our years here. However, I do believe that some
parts of the project can be refined and cleared up. There was much confusion on assignments not
just by me but by my peers as well. Thankfully for us, we had a great deal of guidance and
mentorship from our instructor.
Sincerely,
Lucas Knecht
