Joined up thinking: Assessment, technology and data
The talent assessment space is experiencing some of its most fundamental changes in the
types of tools, instruments and methods being developed, in many instances driven by the
evolution of technology and access to previously inaccessible levels of data. In this session
Chris will describe the evolution of assessment and technology and provide a forward looking
account of emerging assessment trends, challenges and the key questions to consider as we
move into an assessment environment increasingly driven by technology and data mining.
Chris is a Chartered Psychologist with a strong consulting and solutions focus. He has over 15
years’ experience of a providing a range of international organisations with impactful human
capital solutions often focused on merging assessment, technology and broader consulting
expertise. Chris is currently the Vice President at PAN/PSI, a global leader in assessment &
digital solutions, where he is responsible for their international talent assessment segment.
Chris was previously the deputy CEO at Saville Consulting and was responsible for international
solutions and delivery.
Alan Bourne: detail
Going mobile
Digitalisation is impacting all areas of the economy and the world of assessment is no
exception. This session will discuss how the digital world is changing expectations of
assessment, including greater personalisation; the move to mobile; increasingly immersive
experiences as attraction and selection converge; and more sophisticated analytics. The
session will close on how technological and social change is influencing both how we may
assess in the future, and crucially what capabilities will matter in the years ahead.
Alan is founder and Managing Director of Sova Assessment, focused on bringing a fresh
approach to psychometrics by delivering digital, mobile-friendly solutions that provide both
precision and a great user experience. He has 20 years of experience in the field, having
previously co-founded Talent Q and prior to that worked for Royal Mail and SHL. He is a
Chartered Occupational Psychologist, holds a PhD in Organisational Psychology and is also a
board member leading Industry Standards for the Association for British Psychology.
John Rust: detail
Your on line digital footprint: A Pandora’s Box
Classical psychometrics is based on the analysis of items in tests. Today, our ability to treat
online digital footprints as psychometric items has opened a Pandora’s Box that takes both
theory and practice to new levels. Online ‘items’ include Likes, words, pictures, quizzes, games,
videos, search, locations, spend, and biometrics, all of which can be subject to machine
learning, AI and other forms of data analytics. A new era in the prediction and control of
human behaviour brings many benefits but also carries significant risks, to individuals and
society alike.
Professor John Rust is Director of The Psychometrics Centre at the University of Cambridge, a
world leader in modern psychometric techniques. Its software products include Concerto, an
open source online adaptive test development platform and Apply Magic Sauce, an API that
enables users to analyse their online psychological footprint from either their Facebook Likes
or specimens of their writing.
