Badminton originated in ancient China and was brought to England by British military officials in the 1870s. It was named after Badminton House in Gloucestershire, where the game was played regularly. The first badminton club was formed in Bath, England in 1873. The sport grew in popularity worldwide in the early 20th century and the International Badminton Federation was formed in 1934 to govern the emerging national associations. Badminton became an Olympic sport in 1992.
3. Origin
Badminton is a modern version of an earlier
game called battledoreand simpler, which was invented
in China and in the early years was a mere form of
entertainment. He practiced with 2 wooden paddlesand
a ball. This was modified so that their
flight was slower, similar to the "cock" modern.
The current game of badminton originated in India,
where it was called Poona, name of a country's
population which was originally
played. Some British military officials saw the game in
India and brought to England around 1873. There,
the Duke of Beaufort was interested in the game. Since
it is practiced regularly at his country estate in
Gloucestershire, known as Badminton, the
nameassociated with the game continued. In its original
form, badmintonwas a game more formal than was
practiced wearing Prince
Albertcoats, buttoned shoes, bow tie
and baggy silk pants. It is knownfrom a club which
expelled a player who dared to take off the coat.
4. The first badminton club was formed in Bath, England,
in 1873. The game was introduced in the United States in
1890 and was also introduced in
Canada. National Badminton Association of the UnitedStates
was created in 1895. At that time the rules were
unified.Canadian Badminton Association was founded in 1931
and the American Association of Badminton in 1936.
For 1910, there were 300 badminton clubs and the number
increased to 9000 soon after the First World War.
The first tournament championship for men in England was
held in 1899, and first for women in 1900. The
first American championshipswere held in 1937 in Chicago.
5. As in almost all games and sports is almost impossible to
ascertainthe precise origin of them, badminton feel the
same, although we have enough news like sports games and plays
from antiquity.
Some of the games that is known is that a similar game was
playedin ancient China two thousand years ago, "the
Wheel". They also have common features games played by the
Brazilian Indians and the Incas.
Its current name comes
from "Badminton House" GloucestershireCounty of the Duchy
of Beaufort, born of a meeting of British officersin 1873, they
decided to have fun playing with a tennis racket and
achampagne bottle corks, calling this game Badminton, as the
name of the castle house which hosted the meeting. In 1877
he publishedthe first rules of play, and in 1893 was
founded the first association

6. Evolution of badminton
The growing popularity of badminton was acquiring in the fivecontinents, led
to the conclusion in 1934 that required a new organization encompassing the
nascent national associations. Wellarise from the primitive Football
Association, the currentInternational Badminton Federation (IBF).
The president of the I.B.F. occupied it since its inception and
during the next twenty years, George Thomas.
In 1949, the I.B.F. established the first international
teamcompetition, with the name of Thomas Cup, in honor of
Presidentfundaros of it. In 1956 he began to play a similar tournament,
but in the female category, the Uber Cup was called by the name of
thedonor of the trophy, Mrs. HS Uber.
The first World Championships were played Officers in 1977
inMalmö (Sweden). although these had been held since 1899, through
the most prestigious tournament, called the All EnglandChapionship,
comparable in importance to the Wimbledon tennistournament.
Badminton came for the first time in Olympic Games as a

7. The Spanish Federation
of Badminton
The Spanish Federation of Badminton (FESBA) is
the nationalgoverning body for badminton in
Spain. Founded in 1985 and its first president was
Jose Luis Villa Pineiro. Since December 2004, its
chairman is David Cabello.1
