Here's a powerpoint presentation we created for our management of information course
its about data warehousing
I hope it can beneficial to you
wish us luck with our project :D
2. Data warehousing in our 21st century
Started in the early 1970s when data marts first appeared.
Then gradually in the 1980s, Bill Inmon the father of data
warehousing came up with his improvements and creations.
Inmon came up with data warehousing because of the rapid
evolution in the use of data,.
3. Definitions
1. Subject–oriented means the capability of a data
warehouse to analyze particular matter area.
2. Integrated parts are concerned with the inserted
data that come from several different sources of
data.
3. Time-variant process, it mainly keeps track of
historical data in a data warehouse.
4. Non-volatile; which means that when data goes
into the data warehouse it cannot be changed, so
as for historical data.
the most popular definition came from the data warehouse god father
Inmone. “A data warehouse is a subject-oriented, integrated, time-
variant and non-volatile collection of data in support of
management's decision making process.”
4. Benefits of data warehouses
Impacted businesses in general and the information systems industry in
precise.
one of the key benefits of data warehousing is to enhance the business
intelligent tools (BI) by storing data from a wide mix of sources.
It makes a business more capable of handling & processing its information.
Data warehouses saves its users time and effort.
in our opinion we find the “historical intelligence” the most important benefit
derived from data warehousing.
5. The evolution of data warehouses in
organizations through the years
When we go back to the history of databases, we realize that if it
actually stayed in the level it started, many of today’s businesses
won’t be in their current standing positions.
The world evolves simultaneously with its data and information.
Data is the core value of any organization.
Data warehouses showed us through the years:
1. how organizations and markets grow,
2. how performances get coordinated consistently,
3. how standards get improved.
4. increased the competition between businesses.
Data warehouses enabled advantages that weren’t existed before such
as scalability, facility, flexibility and efficiency
6. The architecture of data warehouses
Data warehouse architecture is the logic and physical base of an actual data
warehouse. Just as its definition simply it’s an architectural base for building a
data warehouse.
Three types of architectures:
Data warehouse architecture must be driven by the business requirements
to conform to organizational technological demands so that it eventually
nails its goals.

Hive, data mining and data warehousing.
Facebook’s data warehousing grows by more than half a petabyte every 24
hours.
Facebook have developed its data warehousing technologies to be able to
