2. Final Year Research Projects
Yr 3- Microbial activity in decomposing bodies in marine environments
This was a literature based dissertation mainly focusing on previously conducted research and how
there is a growing need for new, up-to-date research in order to aid current events such as aeroplane
disasters and migrants drowning at sea.
Yr4- Field test kits for detection of vaginal fluid- real life requirement of development
This current dissertation is currently being undertaken and ethical issues are now being discussed with
a view to move ahead with the project. It will look at the lack of field test kits when examining for
the presence of vaginal fluid and the need that this has created.

Practical Skills I gained during my degree
Preparation and identification of nucleic acids, protein isolation and separation by gel filtration,
molecular modelling and computer analysis of kinetic data. Use of a haemocytometer, microscopic
investigation, aseptic techniques and bacterial isolation and cultivation.
Cell breakage, ELISA, immunoassays, spectroscopy, enzyme assays, protein purification, gene cloning,
gas chromatography, HPLC and microscopy.
I am also well versed in sterile microbiological techniques allowing for the maintenance and growth of
bacterial and dest cell cultures, UV mutagenesis, western blot analysis, agarose gel electrophoresis,
SDS- PAGE, DNA and RNA extraction and spectrophotometry. These were all key skills that I
learnt to master during my studies to help towards coursework as well as preparation for
examinations.
Work Experience (Current job position) Sales Manager- JLA Catering
I currently generate my own leads working B2B in the catering and hospitality industry. The focus is
to speakdirectly to Head Chefs and business owners to gain a service level contract and setting up a direct
debit from this. Contracts can range for the hundreds to thousands.I deal with coordinating between
different departments such as the appointments teams and the engineering teams. It is a slow burning sales
and a typical contract can take up to 5 weeks to secure. ( I would prefer my current employer not to be
contacted).
3. (Oct 2015- Feb 2016) Lead sales generator- Moove Insurance
I currently work as part of a team based environment generating leads in over 50 insurance, mainly
funeral plans. This has provided me an opportunity to help me talk to the older generation with care
and compassion over such a delicate subject while addressing the sales aspect before handing them
over to a sales colleague. I currently work 4 hours during the evening 4pm-8pm- Mon-Fri. Contact
Kasem Malek (my immediate team leader -07545752128).
(Nov 2013-May 3014) Fraud Prevention Administrator
I directly contacted customers and worked with sensitive data to confirm or reject high value orders
and flagged suspicious orders for higher authorities to look at and take further. I did this by using
my own personaljudgement and initiative. I worked as part of a team and on my own. Contact First
Choice recruitment Leeds (01132 070100)
(March 2012-Sep 2012) Outbound business to business sales
I sold credit checking systems to businesses house on their clientele. I directly sold to business
directors as well as accountants. I used my knowledge of the product as well as my good
communication skills to sell the product and explain how it would aid their businesses.Iwas able to
manage up to 230 calls a day which led to 25 sales demonstrations a week and an actual figure of
around 16 sales on average. Contact Call Credit UK Leeds (0113 388 4300).
Skills
Research I have researched both in paper journals and on the Internet and library based research.
Teamwork I have successfully undertaken various team projects within both academic and non-academic
environments.
Communication Oral communication skills expressed in presentations and in talking to the general public. Writing skills
developed with essay writing. I have been able to communicate with both children (I worked as part
of a dram team for a few months, teaching children 5-12 how to sing and dance) and the elderly (in
my current job offering funeral plans and life insurance). As a sales advisor for the various
companies I have worked for I have had to demonstrate knowledge of the different type of items
sold and their users,to be able to respond effectively to customer queries. My degree course greatly
enhances my written and verbal communication skills due to the many presentations, assignments,
posters and projects required.
Willingness to learn I am keen to develop my understanding and acquire new skills through employment.
Problem solving I have the ability to problem solve, tested with continuous problem solving exercises given as
assessments, which may acquire mathematical analysis and evaluation.
Computer Skills Knowledge and experience of Windows 7, MS Word, MS Access,IOS systems as well as very good
use of email and Internet.
