Title of the Study: The Teaching Profession: Tracing the Bachelor of Secondary Education Graduates
Rationale of the Study Objectives of the Study Methodology Budget
The alumni are considered as the best evidence of a
program’s effectiveness in terms of employment and
positions held. Moreover, they are a good source of
feedback regarding the program’s relevance in the current
labor market (Orejana & Resurrection, 2010).
CHED Memorandum Order No. 75 specifies the core
competencies expected of The Bachelor of Secondary
Education (BSED) graduates regardless of the type of HEI
This study determines the
employability of the graduate of
Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd)
of the University of Cebu-Banilad for the
school year 2014-2018. The results will
be used as basis in proposing an
intervention plan to enhance the quality

Rationale of the Study Objectives of the Study Methodology Budget
they graduate from. However, in recognition of the spirit
of outcomes-based education and of he typology of HEIs,
the policies, standards and guidelines for BSEd ample
space for HEIs to innovate in the curriculum in line with
the assessment of how best to achieve learning outcomes
in their particular contexts and their respective missions.
To improve classroom teaching in a steady, lasting
way, the teaching profession needs a knowledge base that
grows and improves. In spite of the continuing efforts of
researchers, archived research knowledge has had little
effect on the improvement of practice in the average
classroom ( Hiebert, Gallimore, & Stigler, 2002).
This statistic shows the unemployment rate in the
Philippines from 2007 to 2017. In 2017, the
unemployment rate in the Philippines was at
approximately 2.78 percent (The Statistical Portal, 2017).
The unemployment rate in the Philippines dropped to
5.5 percent in the June quarter of 2018 from 5.7 percent a
year ago. The number of unemployed persons went down
by 83 thousand to 2.36 million while the number of
employed increased by 625 thousand to 40.9 million.

the following subquestions:
1. What is the profile of the graduates
in terms of:
1.1.Gender;
1.2.Civil status; and
1.3.Location of residence?
2. What are the reasons of the
graduates for taking Bachelor
Secondary Education course?
3. What are the employment data of the
Education graduates as to their;
1.3. employment status;
3.2. reason for unemployment;
3.3. place of work
3.4. current job;
3.5. employer’s type of business; and
3.6. gross monthly income in the
current job?
4. What are the strategies used by the

Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate declined to
60.9 percent from 61.4 percent. Among employed
persons, workers in the services sector made up 56.4
percent of the total, followed by those in the agriculture
sector (23.9 percent) and industry (19.7 percent).
Unemployment Rate in Philippines averaged 8.44 percent
from 1994 until 2018, reaching an all time high of 13.90
percent in the first quarter of 2000 and a record low of
4.70 percent in the fourth quarter of 2016
The continuous challenge on upgrading the teacher
education and the presence of critical level of
unemployment in the country prodded the conduct of this
investigation, to be able to craft an intervention scheme to
be used as input in curriculum enhancement.

The number of unemployed persons went down by 83 thousand to 2.36 million while the number of employed increased by 625 thousand to 40.9 million. students.
