AGNIHOTRA is the science of healing the
atmosphere through pyramid fires to
eliminate pollution and contamination.
3. INTRODUCTION
Rishi Kanva as the first who discovered fire the worship/medicinal
fire worship technology called Agnihotra.
In Vedic texts, Agnihotra has been mentioned as the ‘supreme
discipline of yajnas’,which is a science of purification of environment
by using the fire as transformer or ‘a process of removing the
polluted environment through the fire’.
The purified atmosphere has positive effect on life forms, including
microorganisms, plants, humans and all animals.
It is written in Vedas that ‘’ HEAL THE ATMOSPHERE AND IT WILL
HEAL YOU’’.
According to Vedas most of the nutrients comes from the
atmosphere so we should focus on atmosphere.
4. TYPES OF AGNIHOTRA
AGNIHOTRA HOMA ( Aahuti)
It is most important and should be practiced exactly at sunrise and
sunset time daily.
5. VYAHRUTI AGNIHOTRA
• Vyahruti is a Sanskrit word that’s meaning is ‘ uchharan'
• It can be performed at any time except sunrise and sunset.
• It is also performed when commencing OM Tryambakam Homa.
6. OM TRYAMBAKAM HOMA
• Trayambakam: It represents the possessor of three eyes.
• It should be performed at least 4 hours everyday.
• It should be performed for 24 hours on full moon and no moon days.

14. MATERIALS USED IN DAILY YAJNA
Two types of material are used in daily yajna, first Samidha i.e., thick bark
containing wood which are ignited in fire,and second is the Incense
material which contains aromatic and medicinal herbs. Some of other
materials used are :
• HAWAN KUND :- An inverted pyramidal copper pot called hawan kund
is used for daily Agnihotra. The size of Hawan kundas may increase or
decrease according to the requirements. Traditionally , Hawan kund
were used to prepare by digging pits of various sizes and depths.
• SAMIDHA ( Small Twigs with Bark) :- According to shape of Hawan kund ,
small twigs with barks or wood pieces are used ,such as sandlewood,
cedar, mango, palas, grapevine, vata, pipal,etc are used as per size of
Hawan kunda. Dried cake made of cow dung is also used for such work.
15. • HAWAN SAMAGRI :- The main aromatic plants material are
used in oblation material are agar, tagar, powder of
sandlewood, saffron, camphor, rice, barley, gram, peas,etc.
• MEDICINAL PLANTS :- The main medicinal plants used in
incense materials are- Giloy , Brahmi , Sankhpushpi, Mulethi,
Lalcandan, Harada,Bahera,etc.
• GHEE or OIL :- Ghee or oil and sesame seeds or linseed are
used.
• OTHER INGREDIENTS:- In addition to the above, sugar or
sugarcane product , jaggery i.e, honey is also used.

17. PROCEDURE OF AGNIHOTRA
A few minutes before the actual time of sunrise and sunset you should start to prepare the Agnihotra
fire as follows:
• Place a flat piece of dried cow dung at the bottom of the copper pyramid in such a manner
as will allow air to pass.
• Apply a little Ghee to a small piece of cow dung and light it . Insert this lighted piece of cow
dung in the middle of the pyramid.
• Soon all the dung in the pyramid will catch fire. You may use a hand fan to blow the air and
help the flame . However do not blow on the fire so as to avoid bacteria from mouth
affecting the fire.
• You take a few grains of rice on your palm and apply a few drops of ghee to them.
• Exactly at sunrise utter the first Mantra and after word SWAHA add a few grains of rice to
the fire.
18. • Utter the second Mantra and after the word SWAHA add a few
grains of rice to fire .This completes morning AGNIHOTRA.
• At sunset do the same by using evening Mantras. This complete
evening Agnihotra.
• After each Agnihotra try to spare as many minutes as you can for
meditation . You can sit atleast till the fie gets extinguished itself.
• Just before the next Agnihotra collect the ash and keep it in a glass
or earthen container. It can be used for plants or making medicines.
19. PRECAUTIONS OF AGNIHOTRA
The exact timing must be maintained for individual Yajna .
Only whole Kernel rice is used. Best when brown rice is used.
Only copper and gold pyramid can be used.
Only dried cow dung can be used.
Content should be mixed in proper ratio.
