of skills to help organisations solve problems involving the performance of people and leadership: shifting thoughts and behaviours to a new level.
Motherhood was an unplanned change and allowed time to create a decisive shift in career focus – opening with her husband, a bayside café!
However, it didn’t take long to realize that the constant smell of coffee was quickly overwhelmed by dish-washing liquid and other cleaning agents.
Creating a home office to manage domesticity and business, Louise enjoys the variety of servicing clients from all sectors – government, private and
not-for-profit. In the past few months, Louise has coached, mentored, facilitated workshops, developed conferences and been a conference keynote

Staying one step ahead of a changing sector
With such unprecedented advancement in technology and
modes of communication, it is a common concern in the
sector that current ‘best practice’ approaches will cease
to be relevant in the near future. There have been more
changes to marketing in the past two years than the past
fifty years. This means Not-For-Profit organisations are
constantly trying to keep up with these changes and must
start adapting to secure higher levels of engagement with
donors and supporters. Richenda will share her insights
on the importance of digital and how leaders can utilise
different digital channels to maximise their effectiveness
online. Explore:
• Traditional marketing models versus models for the digital
age
• The power of influencers and leveraging off their
communities
• Utilising social media correctly for advocacy and
organisational branding

Best practice and innovative approaches to
leading in not-for-profit
Despite the nature of the sector and the good its
organisations aim to achieve, leaders of not-for-profits and
their staff are feeling increased pressure from competitors.
Creating new fundraising streams, innovative marketing
campaigns and interactive ways of engaging members
of the community in a dialog have become central to the
success of not-for-profits. With so many organisations
vying for the benevolence of donors, staying ahead of the
game is a challenge for leaders. Panellists will discuss
what strategies and techniques they employ to lead
their organisations effectively in the current environment.

• Innovative techniques for communicating with staff and
stakeholders
• Effective peer-to-peer engagement

How to become an effective leader in the not-for-
profit sector
Many women in not-for-profit can envision themselves
in an executive role within the sector, though many are
unsure of how exactly to navigate their way toward such a
senior level. Claire has worked in not-for-profit for 30 years
and in that time has held leadership roles in four different
NGOs, and has been the National Director of Amnesty
International Australia for the last 7 years. Drawing on her
experience, Claire will offer insight on what it means to be
a leader and the core skills and acumen required to hold
a senior executive position in a tough environment. Claire
will highlight how she manages the balance of playing a
leading and inspiring role, both internally and externally.
Discuss:
• Up-sell yourself as the best person for the job
• Cultivating the image and attitude of a respected leader
• Identifying your strengths and how to convey them to
higher management

Establishing a culture of resilience
Leading an organisation, or a team within that
organisation, guarantees a lot of pressure on part of the
manager or executive. This sector’s most accomplished
leaders have grown resilient to unforeseen challenges and
mental obstacles that might stand in their way of achieving
organisational success or personal goals. In the heat of
the moment even some of the best managers struggle
to control their emotions and approach difficult situations
rationally, which can lead to large-scale mistakes. Peta
will draw on her extensive experience in resilience and
management in not-for-profit to discuss:
• Real-time resilience and overcoming detrimental thoughts
• Cultivating a resistant mindset yourself and fostering
resilience in your organisation
• Alleviating internal competition and a lack of support for
other women
• Emotional intelligence

ABOUT THE EVENT
Although the sector is leading the way in gender equality and women’s representation in executive management teams, it still has a long way to
go. Senior leadership roles remain predominantly held by men in larger not-for-profit organisations, partly due to women opting out of progression
opportunities for lack of self-confidence.
In order to attain and maintain senior leadership roles in not-for-profit organisations, women are continuously working to develop their leadership
skills and self-assurance to promote those skills to higher management. This Summit will enable them to not only to identify opportunities for career
advancement but also explore how to best pursue them.
Leadership is a valuable skill at all levels and evidence suggests that it will contribute to organisational success regardless of a person’s rank or
position in a hierarchy. Senior-level managers have a major impact on their organisation’s outcomes, and the Women in Not for Profit Leadership
Summit 2015 will offer an exceptional speaker faculty to address the central challenges and key learnings of female leaders in the sector.
The Summit will provide practical strategies on how emerging and existing leaders can increase their scope as influential leaders, and will offer key
strategies and skills required for leadership excellence. Register early to ensure your leadership team is represented at this outstanding event!
