Uppsala BIO-X is a program that aims to bridge the gap between basic research and product development by providing funding of approximately 1.5 million SEK per year for two years to selected projects. The program addresses the "valley of death" where promising research ideas often fail to progress to applications. Projects are selected based on their market and scientific potential by a Scientific Advisory Board. To date, the program has funded 5-6 million SEK per year to 3 projects, with 2 projects making successful exits each year to become companies. The managing director invites scaling up the program to a European level to increase collaboration and the exchange of ideas and personnel.
