Wikidata is an online free knowledge base launched in January 2013 by the Wikimedia Foundation. It contains over 18 million data items with over 60 million statements about things like coordinates, dates, numbers, and strings. Unlike Wikipedia which has around 5 million articles, over 1.4 million Wikidata items do not have a link to a corresponding Wikipedia page, containing knowledge only found on Wikidata. Wikidata aims to demonstrate applications of its open data in fields like medicine, life sciences, and through live demos of tools that visualize and interact with Wikidata's knowledge graph.
