Our story
4. How does the fast
fashion industry harm
the environment?
5. The apparel industry accounts for 10%
of global carbon emissions and
remains the second largest industrial
polluter, second only to oil.
This shouldn’t be surprising since it’s a
$3 trillion global industry.
9. The global garment and textile industries
employ 60 million to 75 million people worldwide.
Most of them labor without contracts, fixed
schedules or benefit of labor law.
10. Three-fourths of garment workers are women. The
persistent global gender gap in pay—on average
women earn only 60 percent to 75 percent of men’s
wages—is reflected in highpoverty levels for
women in garmentjobs.
11. On average, garment workers work 10–16 hours a
day, 6 days a week, leaving them little time for their
families and increasing their vulnerability to abuse
12. Sexual harassment is endemic in the garment
industry.Tolerated, ignored or perpetuated by
managers, it can become a part of a factory’s
incentive structure.
14. On 24th April 2013, the Rana Plaza building in Savar,
near Dhaka, Bangladesh, collapsed killing more than
1100 people, and 2500 more people were rescued from
under its rubble. It was an eight- story commercial
building housing offices, shops and also factories
manufacturing garments for several international
fashion brands.
Every year, on 24th April, people around the world
commemorate the victims of the Rana Plaza building
collapse, calling for a "Fashion Revolution": will the
fashion industry answer the question
#WhoMadeMyClothes?

enormous impact on the planet and its people. Our
clothing can either continue to be a major part of the
problem, or it can be an enormous part of getting
our planet on track.
The choice is ultimately ours. We can vote at the
ballot box for strong climate measures and vote at
the cash register for clean clothes.”
