P U R A B K O H L I
“The actor with a lot of
experience and knowledge
understands how to get it
right as per the vision of
the filmmakers.”
One of India’s most versatile and professional artists, the actor
received critical acclaim for his performance as the lead in Girish Malik’s
Jal wherein he portrayed the role of water diviner ‘Bakka’. The actor was
also seen wooing the audience with his dance moves on Jhalak Dikhla Jaa
– Dancing With the Stars India season 7 as a contestant. Recently Purab
was seen in the play ‘Trivial Disasters, also featuring Kalki Koechlin,
Richa Chadda and Cyrus Sahukar. The play directed by Atul Kumar was
showcased at various cities across India and Singapore as well.
Socially Active
Known for his philanthropy,
Purab has been involved with social
causes like Animal welfare, welfare
of under privileged women and
children, low cost housing projects
and also been part of Toy Bank as
a Mentor since early 2009. It is a
non-profit organization focused on
joy and bringing a smile to a child’s
face. Toy Bank aims to provide toys
to all children and its vision to cre-
ate a world where all children have
a happy and healthy childhood.
This November, Toy Bank cele-
brates its 10th Anniversary.
In Fashion World
Purab Kohli recently entered the
fashion world with Bombay Shirt
Company as a designer for whom
he has designed a new men’s cap-
sule collection. The collection re-
flects his personal style and is sim-
ple with subtle, quirky detailing.
His Journey
He began his career with the pop-
ular high school based TV show
Hip Hip Hurray. From there he
moved to become a VJ for Chan-
nel V where for 8 years he hosted
travel, music, campus based shows
and interviewed various bollywood
personalities.
The actor’s upcoming projects also
include Rock On 2! and Tere Aane Se.
Brands he worked with
Since then, there was no turning
back for Purab as he was a very pop-
ular personality especially among
the youth. He endorsed leading
brands like Dinesh food products
(Kerala with a famous actress of
yesteryears Srividhya (deceased),
Compaq Computers, Amaron Car
batteries (with Meghna Ready),
Colgate Gel’s famous “Talk to me”
campaign, Hide and Seek biscuits
and McDowells latest TVC.
In addition, since 3 years Purab
is the brand ambassador for the
leading coffee brand Nescafe with
Deepika Padukone. The recent
Wildstone Campaign endorsed by
the actor, saw him in a very sexy
avatar. He was also the face of the
popular television series ‘Life Mein
Ek Baar’ on Fox Traveller.
Purab has evolved over the years
and has been seen portraying var-
ious characters in films be it Bas
Yu Hi, Ram Gopal Verma’s Vastu-
shastra, Mahesh Bhatt’s Woh Lam-
he and Awarapan , ‘My brother
Nikhil’ directed by Onir, the block-
buster hit ‘Rock On’ , Fatso, 10ml
love and Turning 30.
Did you know?
Son of the director /producer
Hersh Kohli and related to the leg-
endary Dev Anand and Shekhar
Kapoor, the actor seems to have
inherited immense talent from his
family itself. The actor with a lot
of experience and knowledge un-
derstands how to get it right as per
the vision of the filmmakers. Hav-
ing played different characters and
worked with immensely talented
filmmakers we hear that Purab is a
director’s and producer’s actor.

JAL
THE BAND
describe the band’s sound and its’ con-
tinued success.
“Jal makes its own space accordingly
wherever it flows,” Mumtaz explained.
“And thats how we made our space in
the music-industry of sub-continent.”
Lahore-native, Mumtaz enjoys every-
thing from A R Rahman to John May-
er, so it was no surprise when JAL’s
sound came out the way it did. JAL’s
brand of music is not quite Junoon or
Vital Signs, in fact it is more docile
and melodious—lovey-dovey, even. In
it’s early days, this made it difficult for
listeners—they either really liked their
sound, or really hated it.
Today, it cannot be denied that JAL’s
brand of music has widened the um-
brella for Pakistani soft rock. But even
in his college days, as the band was be-
ing formed, Mumtaz knew greatness
was his destiny.
In 13 years, there wasn’t a single bar-
rier that could stop this band. Thanks
to a little thing called the internet, they
trained themselves to be the best art
ists they could. Their song “Aadat” re-
leased becoming an internet sensation.
By the time the video had come out
in 2003, all lovers of the Pakistan rock
scene had already heard it.
Mumtaz has learned to deal with the
highs and lows of the industry with the
simple mantra: “Work hard and have
faith and never look back.”
Without a doubt, it is because of JAL’s
hard work in the industry that they
have earned awards, and even interna-
tional sponsorships (Gibson Guitars,
Unilever etc.). In 2005, the song Aadat
won Best Song, Best Lyrics, Best Com-
position at the Indus Awards. Among
many other awards, JAL has also been
named Favourite Artist India (MTV
Asia Awards 2006), and won Best Bal-
lad Song for their song Moray Piya
(MTV Asia Awards 2009). Their third
album, Pyaas, is nominated for Best
Music Album for the Hum Awards
2014 and at the Lux Style Awards
2014.
So what else can we expect of JAL in
the near future? Mumtaz confirmed
Jal makes its own space
accordingly wherever it flows
and thats how we made our space in
the music-industry of sub-continent.
“
”
Belleza Moda Magazine sat down
with Goher Mumtaz from JAL the
Band this week to discuss their success,
their struggles and their new album.
But despite the shuffle in lineup and
a lawsuit with former member, Atif
Aslam, Mumtaz remains willfully loyal
to JAL, which now includes Saad Sul-
tan (guitar) and Amir Azhar (Bass)—
and, of course, their fans.
The term JAL, is often used in Urdu
poetry as a reference to water. Coin-
cidentally, it is the most natural way to
with Belleza Moda that Jal’s new line-
up was “ gearing up” for a tour in
USA and Canada!
Although JAL is proud of their many
achievements, Mumtaz told Belleza
Moda that, “I am humbled that my
fans and JAL’s fans stays with JAL and
wait for the new music still after so
many changed.”
Mumtaz wants his fans to know that,
“You are the reason we became popu-
lar and I promise you guys that JAL is
here to stay and to deliver even better
than before as ever.”

Tarun
Tahiliani,
is known as the
Czar of Couture
on India’s runways for
a reason. Tahiliani’s brand
always aims to create the ulti-
mate “India Modern” look. It is
about traditional silhouettes combined
with western notions of cut, construct and
finish.
The ultra-chic collection is inspired by the work of Lon-
don painters, Amrit Singh and Rabindra Singh—also known
as the Singh Sisters. Tahiliani translated The Singh Twins’ love
of art into digitally printed designs, using selected elements from the
art adding a touch of playfulness and vibrancy to the collection. By re-
viving the technique of miniature paintings from the Mughal era, Tahiliani’s
collection separates itself from the rest.
Tahiliani’s Summer Resort collection, presented at Lakme Fashion Week 2015 in Mum-
bai, India showcased imperial Indian prints with beaded embellishments and jewellery with
high headgear and flowy garbs. Traditional silhouettes like saris and dhoti’s were reinvented with
a new age vision incorporating bold colors, hand painted gold kalis and touches of Russian folk
art. Fine embroidery, chikankari and resham, added drama to elegant ensembles paired
with rounded sunnies.
The use of Tahiliani’s bold resort palette in men’s wear, was particularly im-
pressive. While being adventurous in cut and colour, Tahiliani caters to the
modern man. He combines well-structured trousers ending just at the
ankle, with short shirts, waist coats. He fearlessly uses in shades of
blue, toasted almond, tangerine, yellow in addition to the digital
prints that distinguish this line from his previous creations.
Tahiliani’s interpretation of chic resort wear is a
welcome combination between high points in
design history and the needs of the modern
Indian. While staying true to his sig-
nature style of bright colours and
layered textures, his Summer
Resort collection presents
post-modern couture
that is both prac-
tical and stun-
ning.

I think my success has come from
allowing myself to be ok with not
being perfect. It gives my work a more
organic feel.
If makeup artist Christien Tinsley
is involved in a movie, you know
the film you are about to see will be
transformational, if not magical.
Some of his projects, including Mel
Gibson’s shell-shocking Passion of
the Christ and R. Balakrishnan’s Paa
(starring Amitabh Bachchan), put
his ability to manipulate faces and
prosthetics, right into the spotlight.
After watching such films, it may be
hard to believe that this self-taught
makeup artist puts a strong emphasis
on “keep things simple.”
At the age of seven, like many
boys his age, he went to see Star
Wars: A New Hope. He noticed the
transformations of faces and limbs
and thought: ‘I want to do that.’ He
hasn’t looked back since.
Tinsley thanks his small, but
supportive, family in Washington
D.C. His dad did the best he could
to support what he thought was just
a hobby for his son. The father-son
unit had little money for schooling
the aspiring designer and the Tinsley
family had no connections to the film
industry.
“I mowed a lot of lawns…to earn
enough money to buy plaster,”
Tinsley remembers. “When you
have little to no means to do what
you want it makes it very difficult.”
Today he is a well-recognized in the
film industry. He was nominated
three times for an Emmy in
prosthetic makeup when he worked
with American Horror Story. In
2008, he was named the Winner of
the Academy Award for Technical
achievement. He also won a National
Film Award for best make up in the
film Paa.
The Academy Award Committee,
recognized his creation of transfer
techniques creating and applying
2D and 3D makeup. He says that
his technique is informed by an
instinctual knowledge of how things
will look on film. “I lean on this more
than the ability to overcomplicate
my work,” says Tinsley.
After working on the set of Pearl
Harbour, Christien Tinsley founded
“Tinsley Transfers”, which he uses
to support his more creative projects.
The company does everything from
producing Halloween products to
creating custom prosthetics and
tatoos for films.
In fact, his focus has nothing to do
with perfection or mastery. “I think
my success has come from allowing
myself to be ok with not being
perfect,” he says. “It gives my work a
more organic feel.”

Nowadays, Christophe Guillarmé gets calls from Kelly
Brook, Emma Miller, Christina Pitanguy, and many others, are
contacting him in regards to fashion for the red carpet.
The love he has for his work has finally begun to pay off
in the last couple of years, culminating in one of the most
successful years he’s had as a fashion designer. This year has
been one of the best years for this talented designer.
this young talent’s personal style.
In the beginnings of his career, Christophe faced many
challenges while working independently. He started his line
in 2000 when the fashion industry was not as regulated as
it is today. At that time, there was some leeway for mistakes
made on the runway or behind the scenes.
You don’t often get to hear an exclusive inside story on a
fashion designer’s journey to the runway and the trials and
tribulations faced to get there.
Belleza Moda Magazine had a chance to interview up-and-
coming fashion rookie, Christophe Guillarmé. As a young
child, Christophe would always watch the Cannes Film Fes-
tival from afar, spectating and getting inspiration for what
would later be some of the most intricate designs in fash-
ion. Even as a child watching the celebrities walk down the
red carpet he would dream of one day having those same
celebrities wearing his designs and showcasing them in a
beautiful manner. Little did he know back then, Christo-
phe Guillarmé would become a known name in the fashion
industry.
“Fashion for Christophe is a religion”. It’s a tough job,
despite the glitz and glam factor of red carpets and fashion
week. But no matter how many challenges Christophe
faces, he still affectionately refers to the fashion industry
as a ‘glam priesthood’. Surprisingly enough, the designs
that he comes up with for various women starts to have an
impact on his own personal style.
A little bit of Riviera glamour, Parisian couture, and a splash of
Dolce Vita lifestyle would be the perfect phrases to describe
Obstinacy is, I guess, the best
partner to creativity to realize what
you have in mind.

FASHION DESIGNER

W hen thinking about the most
influential designers in India,
Manish Arora is one of the first
ones that come to mind. Fashion, to
Manish, is a huge part of his life. It’s
a spontaneous factor and it’s entirely
drawn from his extensive travel
experience from around the globe. As
a fashion industry veteran, he is able
to get inspiration from everything he
sees, observes, listens, or hears. It could
be something little that catches his eye
or something monumental that will
make a huge impact in his memories.
The inspiration is also drawn from
the colourful people he meets and
the beautiful settings of the places he
travels to.
Manish’s personal style is a mixture
of fun and eclectic clothing that still
looks chic, is easy to choose and wear,
yet has a bit of a wild side to it. The
colour pink and gold is often used in
his everyday wardrobe, creating the
perfect eye-catching combination for
a talented fashion designer. In terms
of designing, he believes that it is a
language of its own. Designing is
something that’s distinct, colourful,
instinctive, and fun. Work can always
be fun as long as you enjoy what you’re
doing, which is a mantra Manish lives
by everyday he designs.
Much like his personality, Manish dove
headfirst into the fashion industry
after almost completing a degree in
Commerce. Although it is a change
that many people would be terrified
of, he was able to fearlessly encounter
the fashion industry. At the beginning
of his new career, there
were many challenges that were faced,
but all of them were conquered with
unwavering bravery and passion. An-
other thing that Manish cites as his
main reason for success is making sure
not to overthink. People tend to set
themselves up for failure when they
overthink about huge life
Another thing Manish Arora is known
for is his theatrical shows and larger-
than-life designs. His designs are like
an art piece on display at the museum.
If you are lucky enough to be able to
sit in on one of his runway shows, it
will be as colourful and entertaining as
a theater show just through the clothes
and décor of the venue. The entire ex-
perience will be like a journey with the
designer itself through his trial of cre-
ating the collection. As a result of his
experience in the industry, Manish also
has a strong grasp on the commercial
presence of clothes on the runway.

Fashion designing should have a strong
language of its own that’s distinct, colourful, yet
instinctive - keeping it light, fun and effective.
“
”Instead of being based just in India,
Manish Arora is expanding his brand’s
reach. In the past ten years, Manish
has been able to showcase his designs
in London, Miami, Paris, and many
more. He was even presented with
the designer’s choice for the Best Col-
lection Award in May of 2005. Look
forward to seeing many more of this
talented and quirky designer’s pieces
on the runways in the coming years.

Piloted driving at Audi is approaching production
readiness at race pace. On one of the world’s most chal-
lenging race tracks, the Sonoma Raceway in California,
the latest generation of the Audi RS 7 piloted driving
concept has surpassed previous top performances once
again. Audi will be offering
piloted driving for the first time in the upcoming
generation of the Audi A8.
For some time now, Audi has been testing piloted driv-
ing under increasingly challenging conditions. In Octo-
ber 2014, an RS 7 nicknamed “Bobby” already com-
pleted a driverless lap on the Hockenheimring at speeds
up to 240 km/h (149.1 mph). The new generation of
the car is named “Robby,” has a power output of 412
kW (560 hp) and is around 400 kg (881.8 lb) lighter than
its predecessor. Whether braking, steering or accelerat-
ing, the piloted car controls all driving functions fully
autonomously and with maximum precision.
Audi is also testing piloted driving in the challenging sit-
uation of real road traffic. At the start of 2015, “Jack”
– an Audi A7 piloted driving concept with many
near-production solutions – drove on public highways
from Silicon Valley to Las Vegas for the Consumer
Electronics Show (CES). Shortly thereafter, this car
also drove autonomously on German autobahns at
speeds up to 130 km/h (80.8 mph). At CES Asia in
May 2015, journalists also had an opportunity to ex-
perience piloted driving – in the traffic of megacity
Shanghai.
The development work, which includes driving on a
very wide array of testing grounds, is yielding valu-
able knowledge for series-production systems – from
the sensor technology and data processing to vehicle
control and stabilization.
The technologies for piloted driving stand for safety,
time savings, efficiency and convenience. The systems
can make a valuable contribution to safety, especially
when the driver is overwhelmed or underwhelmed by
driving tasks. In addition, it gives drivers greater free-
dom for organizing their time in the car.
When used to temporarily assume driving tasks, the predictive technology makes driving more efficient, reduces
stress and enhances comfort. Piloted driving will make its production debut in the next generation of the luxu-
ry-class sedan, the Audi A8. The systems can assume control of the car during parking or in stop-and-go traffic on
freeways at speeds up to 60 km/h (37.3 mph).
“In Sonoma, we took the Audi RS 7 piloted
driving concept to its physical limits lap after lap, and it
handled the task with uniform precision,” says Thomas
Müller, who is responsible for the development of brake,
steering and driver assistance systems at Audi.
“The car turned in lap times that were better than those of
sports car drivers.” The RS 7 took just 2:01.01 minutes to
complete the 4,050-meter (2.5 mi) circuit.

VANCE JOY
ABOUT
Vance Joy is staring down the barrel for the cover of his long-await-
ed debut Dream Your Life Away. “You can see people’s personalities in
their eyes,” Vance Joy says.
Vance Joy has had an unexpectedly long time to finish his debut
album. There’s a simple reason why - his first single “Riptide” kept
charming the world and its charming author followed it around the
globe. Several times over.
In Australia, Riptide moved from alternative to commercial radio,
then commercial TV and got a second wind after it became the first
song to top Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown without an album to
call home.
Books and films also provided plenty of inspiration. The movie in
“Riptide” was Midnight Cowboy, while on Dream Your Life Away the
tune “We All Die Trying To Get It Right” started life when Vance
Joy was watching the movie Infamous about writer Truman Capote.
Dream Your Life Away was recorded mainly just outside of Seattle with
producer Ryan Hadlock (Lumineers, Gossip, Johnny Flynn) includ-
ing a handful of songs (“Mess is Mine,” “Winds of Change” and
“Georgia”) being finished off in a tree house on the studio grounds.
“It was beautiful,” Vance Joy says of the gravity-defying recording
sessions, “And it was cool being so super close as we were recording.”
With his debut album finally finished, Vance Joy is in the enviable
position of the entire world wanting to hear it all at the same time.
He’s already blacked out the next year for touring, on the back of
nearly two years of touring since “Riptide” was a mere ripple.
The album title, Dream Your Life Away, came to him after hearing
John Lennon’s 1981 classic “Watching the Wheels.”
Dream Your Life Away is released on September 9.

Arko Pravo Mukherjee is one of the most promising new
songwriters and music composers in Bollywood. The Kolkata native has
once enjoyed critical acclaim and earned popular votes for his lyrics and
music for such big-banner Bollywood films such as JISM 2 (2012) and
Yaariyan (2014). Arko has been nominated in a number of music awards
including Radio Mirchi Music Award and the Stardust Awards in 2013.
I am more a Bengali folk musician, than anything
else. I’ve been learning different forms of folk, jazz,
and several other genres of music from around the
world. I sing different forms of Bengali-folk forms,
like songs of the river men, which is called Bhati-
ali. There are also Shaari and Manbhumi songs
and so much more.
I believe that music has travelled on it’s own ac-
cord across the world. I do a bit of African-Cuban
music, Blue grass, Latin-American music. I also
love doing Irish-Scottish folk songs and French
music. I’m very interested in the entire gypsy trade
and how the music evolved in different parts of
Asia and Europe.
I love playing music live and I am more into or-
ganic music rather than electronic music. I have
sung in festivals in France and England, and I am
truly proud to play in these festivals. A solid part of
the audience doesn’t understand my language, yet
we connect and their reactions are priceless.
I started playing live music at 11, professional-
ly in a rock band. Then I moved into blues-rock
while switching back and forth between metal and
grunge. Then came a time, I realized, I couldn’t
have much electronic influence in my music. So I
moved to an organic style.
My parents have trained me in Indian classical
music, as they are both classical singers. Both of
them are brilliant singers.
I have been featured in a travelogue documenta-
ry with ATN Bangladesh talking about Bengali
songs, it’s history and influences (Bhorsha Thakuk
Bangla Gaan e – A Journey With Arko Mukherjee,
2014).
I am also in a band called Fiddler’s Green, in Ben-
gal as well as a project in Europe, building a bridge
between Indian and European music as a whole,
called “Crossover”. I have also been involved in an
electronic-based project. It’ll be interesting since I
have been away from electronic music for a while.
I would love to become a filmmaker, but I’m really
picky about it. I’ve been a theatre and photogra-
phy student for a while but I’m never really satis-
fied with the ideas I come up with when writing a
script.
I love to travel the Himalayas. I love chilly destina-
tions since I come from a very hot city and I need
to escape sometimes.
It’s tough to pick a favourite album or song since
I listen to several genres. I really like Dixon, Tito
Bren, Body Guy—especially “Black Night” by
Body Guy—the list goes on.

Conciliating tradition, innovation and modern
technology, the “élégante” collection discloses a
revolutionary horological concept.
Designed and conceived exclusively for women, with
extremely precise technical specifications, for a watch with
the longest autonomy. The “élégante” allows the time to
be stopped and started again. Every woman’s dream.
8 years of development were necessary to develop this
innovative movement offering the greatest comfort. This
electromechanical watch combines feminity, elegance and
precision, for an autonomy of 10 years in daily use and
up to 18 years in standby mode. When the “élégante”
is motionless, it goes in stand by mode after 30 minutes
to save its energy. When it is moved again, the hands set
themselves to the correct time taking the shortest path.
It is available in their 10 Boutiques in Geneva, New York,
Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, Beijing, Los Angeles, Miami,
Boca Raton and Beirut.

“Nominations and awards are good.
They give you an encouragement and motivation
to work even harder, but the biggest award is the
audiences’ love and appreciation.”
SINGER
MOHAMMED
IRFAN
Mohammed Irfan, within his
five-year career, has become the
poster boy for the modern Bolly-
wood playback industry.
Irfan’s musical career took off when
he began competing in televised
competitions like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa
and Amul Star Voice of India. In
the summer of 2008, he was the
last man standing in another tele-
vised singing competition, Jo Jeeta
Wahi Super Star 2. Within the year,
Irfan was recommended to A.R.
Rahman to have him sing Behne
De—a balad written for the film
Raavan (2010).
“Reality shows give you instant
fame and popularity,” says Irfan.
“That’s the first big thing anybody
needs if they are coming from out-
side the industry.”
From a young age, Irfan knew he
wanted to be a playback singer just
like Mohammed Rafi and Sonu
Nigam. Irfan’s talent was first rec-
ognized by his teacher, Mr. Ram-
achari. Even today, Irfan thankfully
credits Mr. Ramachari for giving
him the musical training and guid-
ance he needed.
In 2011, he sang his breakout song,
Phir Mohabbat, alongside Arjit
Singh. The song was written for the
movie Murder2 (2011) by Mithoon
Sharma. The composer met Irfan
back in 2008 and has since worked
with him on several of his most
popular songs.
“Working with him doesn’t feel
like working,” says Irfan, about
Mithoon. “It’s a very comfortable
space for me and I feel God has
blessed our association.”
While he continues to work with
Mithoon and other Bollywood pro-
ducers, Irfan has also worked with
film industries all over India, sing-
ing songs in Bengali, Marathi, Ori-
ya, Tamil and Telugu.

The design and craftsmanship of the collection has
been inspired by the rich cultural heritage of
the lost golden era.
Semi precious stones like emerald, ruby,
pearl and kundan have been used to
epitomise delicate artistry which
gives an Nizami imperial look.
The jewellery is crafted in sterling silver with 22k gold
plating. Heavy stone work and elaborate enamelling forms
a focal point of the collection.
Evoking the beauty of exquisite old
heritage jewellery with an aim to step
back to the past and make them
available to the present.

Today Champagne Gosset is owned by the Cointreau fami-
ly, also owners of Cognac Frapin. Annual production is 1.3
million bottles per year – many times more than beloved small
growers such as Billiot, Larmandier-Bernier, or Gimonnet, but
a tiny fraction of the production of the big negociant houses
(Moet produces a staggering 30 million bottles per year). The
wines are produced almost entirely (95%) from premier crus
and grand crus vineyards. The style is resolutely traditional: in
order to preserve maximum freshness, the wines never undergo
malolactic fermentation. The prestige cuvees are always rid-
dled and disgorged entirely by hand.
Gosset wines are a classic expression of the tradi-
tion of Champagne, at once powerful and full of fi-
nesse. Wonderfully fresh when young, they age superb-
ly, mellowing into wines of great grace and refinement.
Gosset Champagne
1) Chocolate Mint
This spirit has a light and velvety textured body. Bite into this chocolate
mint for a decadent indulgence, featuring natural chocolate and mint
flavours that go over well in any stylish Martini or hot drink.
2) Crème brûlée
This irresistible flavour is a spot-on recreation of the classic dessert,
without the added calories or extra sweetness. It is a fine balance of
vanilla bean, brown sugar and caramel, with a soft and smooth finish.
3) Cucumber
It’s generous nose is imbued with the aroma of garden fresh cucumbers.
The vodka has a delicate and clean cucumber flavour that lingers on the
palate for a remarkably long time. It makes a great Bloody Caesar, or
even a Mojito.
				 Iceberg Vodka
Dan Aykroyd and John Alexander wanted to craft a vessel
worthy of one of the world’s purest vodkas. A symbol of life,
reflecting power and enlightenment, to hold their award-win-
ning white spirit of super natural purity.
Crystal Head contains no additives. No glycerol, citrus oils or
sugars. Nothing is added to enhance or mask the taste.
Highest quality peaches and cream corn is distilled four times
into a neutral grain spirit and blended with pristine water from
Newfoundland, Canada. The liquid is then filtered seven times,
of which three are through layers of semi precious crystals
known as Herkimer diamonds.
CRYSTAL VODKA
Made from 100% Colorado rye, this 90 proof rye mash whis-
key is both complex and extraordinarily smooth. Aged at least
two years in new American white oak barrels, Woody Creek
Colorado Straight Rye Whiskey embodies distinct rye charac-
ter with pronounced white pepper throughout the palate, notes
of citrus peel on the nose, and an oaky vanilla mid-palate. This
rare 100% Colorado rye whiskey is mashed, distilled, aged and
blended by Woody Creek Distillers in Basalt, Colorado.
Woody Creek Distillers’ philosophy is applied to every spirit
they distill; to make a spirit of genuine integrity, true to its
essence, and unique in taste and character.

In August every year, car enthusiasts from
all over the world gather for the Concours

themselves in the fascination of both
automotive treasures from years gone by

The BMW Group has come up with
something very special this year with the
world premiere of the BMW 3.0 CSL

the 40th anniversary of BMW in North
America and the heady racing success of
the BMW 3.0 CSL in 1975.

Motor racing is all about the abili-

unbridled joy of driving,” explains
Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice
President BMW Group Design. “And
as such it represents the heartbeat of
BMW. Back in 1975, as today, win-

Technical innovations have taken
the effectiveness of this partnership
to ever great heights. And with the

aiming to show how much closer the

erence Lewis began his professional dance
career at the tender age of six. Even at such
a young age, Terence’s appetite for the
stage grew. Despite his interest in dance, his formal dance
training came eight years later when he was fourteen and
representing his school at the All Mumbai Dance Cham-
pionship. He ended up getting first place at the compe-
tition, only to have a judge tell him that he shouldn’t get
excited as he was only the best of the worst. Unlike other
individuals, Terence was not dissuaded from pursuing his
passion for dancing. Instead of giving up he decided to
ask her for critique on his dance routine in order to im-
prove. From that point on, Terence began attending les-
sons held by the judge and his technique improved vastly
in a short amount of time.
Despite being one of India’s most talented choreogra-
phers nowadays, Terence had started from humble begin-
nings. He was born into a poor family of eight children
with a father who had to carry the entire family’s financial
burdens. However, through hard work and determination
he managed to show his family his ongoing passion for
dance. During the initial years of working in the dance
profession, life was difficult and dance was not considered
full-time profession. To break through this barrier, Ter-
ence realized that he would have to take a different path.
While giving personal lessons to a few students, Terence
also did a professional course with Talwalkars to become
a fitness consultant. During this time, he had an idea of
combining dance and exercise, ending up in it becoming
a huge hit.
After becoming renowned in the dance profession, Ter-
ence was offered a position as a judge on various dance
reality shows such as Dance India Dance. He cites these
reality shows for the fame that has propelled him to be-
coming a household name. Not only that, the admiration
and love people have for him as a choreographer helps
him strive to become a better judge every day. He has
also worked with top celebrities in India such as Madhu-
ri Dixit Nene, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Deepika, Ka-
trina Ranbir, and many more.
For fans of Terence or those looking to learn more about
him in the future make sure to check out his work at
JUGNEE the contemporary dance festival in Dubai.
There will be breath-taking performances by the Na-
vdhara Dance India Theater and the Terence Lewis
Contemporary Dance Company.
If you’re young and looking to join the dance industry
then Terence believes that you need to work hard and
persevere. It’s an extremely tough industry and not every-
one makes it. However, if you work hard and you love
to dance then nothing is unachievable.
If you work hard

1½ tsp Orange extract
150g (5 ½ oz) Green & Black’s Organic Ginger bar
Icing sugar, for dusting
Directions:
1. Bring a pan of water to boil and add the almonds. Boil for 30 seconds and drain. Peel off the almond
skins and set aside. (Alternatively, buy blanched almonds.)
2. Preheat the oven to 180˚C (350˚F) and line one or two baking trays with baking parchment.
3. Mix the flour, baking powder and sugar in a bowl. Add the almonds, ginger, eggs and 1 teaspoon of
the orange essence. Stir to form a thick but soft dough. Dust icing sugar over a clean surface, divide the
mixture into three portions and roll each one into a sausage shape.
4. Place the rolls on the lined tray and flatten slightly. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
5. Remove from the oven and carefully cut each roll on an angle into 1 cm (1/2 in) wide strips. Spread
the strips in a single layer on the baking tray and return to the oven for 2–3 minutes. Remove and leave to
cool.
6. When the biscotti have cooled, melt the chocolate in a microwave or heatproof bowl over a pan of
barely simmering water, making sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Stir in the remaining 1/2 teaspoon
of orange essence.
7. Dip the biscuits into the chocolate to coat half of the biscuits and leave them to set on a wire rack.

AHFQAT AMANAT ALI
PAKISTANI SINGER
Every time you go on the mic, you
have to prove yourself, and every
new song is a challenge.
“
”
elleza Moda sat down with Pakistani
Singer, Ahfqat Amanat Ali this week
to talk about his life as a ninth generation Ghara-
na whose family migrated from the Patiala region.
With a lifetime of love for the classical method, his
work ranges from Sufi Rock band, Fusion to Bolly-
wood playback tracks in some of India’s most pop-
ular movies, and looks forward to more.
His training began from a young age with his
grandfather Ustad Akhtar Hussain Khan. He is
committed to “carrying the legacy forward and
handing the baton off to the next generation who
are getting ready to enter the field of music.”
Gharana is, therefore a precious form of expres-
sion to him. It is an ideology for living life. Ghara-
na musicians can be found all over India: Gwalior,
Lucknow, Hyderabad, Patiala and Rampur. When
it was his turn to bring his classical training to the
world, Shafqat took a rather unorthodox road.
Shafqat admits that, elders in other gharanas would
have opposed this choice. But when he chose to ex-
periment with different genres of music, his family
was very supportive. He says that: “My ancestors
had already been doing experiments with music.”
His first experiment was a Sufi Rock band Fuson.
He struggled for sixteen years before he was able
to make his mark in the music industry. The third
track on the band’s first album Saagar (2002),
“Aankhon Ke Saagar” became an instant hit. The
rest is history.
Playback legend, Shankar Mahadevan, just hap-
pened to hear “Aankhon Ke Saagar” on the radio.
After
getting a hold of Shafqat, he asked him to sing
Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s “Mitwa” in the studio.
The track, was used for for the Bollywood Movie
Kabhi Alveida na Kehna.
“Every song that I sing, be it my own composition
or someone else’s is a new challenge. Every time
you go on the mic you have to prove yourself and
every new song is a challenge.”
Shafqat is the kind of person who can always find
something to love about a song. Throughout his
career, from Kabhi Alvieda na Kehna’s “Mitwa”
(2006) to Satyagraha’s “Raske Bhare Tore Naina”
(2013), Shafqat looks to his father Ustad Amanat
Ali Khan for inspiration.
“I have been very lucky to have worked with the
best in the industry so far,” says Shafqat. “All of
them
understood my strengths and my abilities and gave
me their best work.”
He continues to perform live for Coke Studio Pa-
kistan, reworking some of his flagship songs. He
hinted to us that there will be more original work
soon including a new album and a music video. He
did mention that, “...if everything goes according
to plan,” there may also be a North American tour
soon enough.

The restaurant concept was executed with contributions by some important partners throughout the chef’s
career. Artist Dudu Garcia adorns the restaurant walls and is also behind the music playlist. Fashion
designer Lenny Niemeyer created the staff’s uniforms, based on Bronze’s direction that they should
symbolize the peace and elegance of the place. The resulting garments in gray khaki have a slightly oriental
look. “I was so glad when my dear friend Felipe Bronze invited me to design the uniforms for Oro. It was a great chance to
bring fashion together with the art of gastronomy,” says Niemeyer.
The wines are selected by Argentine sommelier Cecilia Aldaz, who was raised in the Mendoza
region by a family that grew their own vines and experimented with home wine making. The Oro
wine list, with around 120 wines, is somewhat eclectic, juxtaposing classics from the old world with
unusual options. “One thing we believe in here is using rare, little-known grapes with special characteristics that
harmonize better with the Oro menu.”

WHY ARCHITECTURE MATTERS
It is projected that 70% of the world’s population will be living in cities by 2050. This is why
Elizabeth Chiu-Richter, newly elected president of the American Institute of Architecture
works so hard. To her architecture is not just about buildings, it’s about the communities that
live and convene within them.
“As architects, we use our creativity to serve society—to make our communities better places
to live,” remarked Chiu-Richter, in her AIA Presidential speech, in Washington, D.C.
Present-day Chiu-Richter has made herself a monu-
mental figure. She has won awards for her work as an
architect and a representative for all women in pursuit
of life beyond the household. Upon graduation from
the University of Texas, she was given the National Ar-
chitectural Award for her community-sensitive designs.
Her award-winning public radio series “The Shape of
Texas” (1998- 2011) was aimed at heightening the pub-
lic’s awareness of regional and urban issues in Texas,
won her recognition all over the U.S. Just before an-
nouncing her candidacy for AIA president in 2014,
Chiu-Richter was the president for the Texas Society of
Architects and part of Texas’ National board of
directors,
and an active community volunteer.
“Architecture is more relevant than ever,” says
Chiu-Richter. “Architecture is at the center of that ur-
ban growth and architects have a leading role in the de-
sign of environments that are healthy, sustainable, and
resilient.”
Her favourite cluster of projects, are inspired by her
childhood, growing up in Hong Kong, where people
live in tiny flats. Public spaces are often become an ex-
tension of their living room. With Richter Architects,
she designed safety-rest areas all over Texas (Brooks
County, Corpus-Christi, Dallas, Kennedy County,
Chiu-Richter believes that architects have the and the
know-how to build a better world. “I feel very fortunate
to hold this high office and work closely with colleagues
on the AIA National Board and the Strategic Council
to build a strong association and a robust profession.”
Chiu-Richter still serves her community in Cor-
pus-Christi Texas, as CEO of Richter Architects with
her husband, David Richter. The mid-sized firm is
known for their dedication to the pursuit of thoughtful,
functional, well-crafted environments. Richter Archi-
tects have designed everything from public renovation
projects at the National Museum of the Pacific War and
several schools in Texas. When she is not being CEO
or President, she is the working mom of three children,
Colorado County). To her they are more than just re-
strooms and drinking fountains: “They are points of
engagement where the traveler experiences the cultural
heritage and landscape of the region.”
She encourages emerging architects that, “each of us
has an obligation to help all the bright, passionate, and
creative young women and men to succeed. They are
the profession’s future.”
“We do encourage those in the building and real estate
world to take every step possible towards a more
sustainable built environment. LEED and other similar
rating systems represent a good starting point toward a
more sustainable built environment.”

	 The fashion designer and archi
tect Jennifer Brachmann founded the Brach-
mann label together with her partner, Olaf
Kranz. Their brand is known for their line of
post-classical menswear since 2012. While
their line is still considered new, they are al-
ready having talking with retailers in New
York, Toronto and Los Angeles.
About Jennifer (and Olaf Kranz)
Jennifer Brachmann always knew that
she wanted to combining the useful
with the beautiful, making the world a
little bit more sophisticated. As a fash-
ion designer, Brachmann loves that
she can mull through the creative pro-
cess on her own terms.
“I can decide whether to refine the
model or to reject the draft,” she says.
“I can realize and express my ideas in
fashion very fast and without compro-
mise.”
On the Brachmann Label
In 2013, Brachmann received a
grant from the Art Foundation of
Saxony-Anhalt that enabled her to
Post-Classical Menswear. The label
debuted at Mercedes-Benz Fashion
Week Berlin in January 2014, followed
up with a show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin in July
2014 and then another spot at the Berlin Showroom in Paris on
January 2015. “We will also present our new Autumn/Winter
Collection 2015/16 at the Berlin Showroom in Paris, where we
will meet with buyers from North America.”
On the New collection:
Brachmann believes that style is a process of developing a sig-
nature look that is both an expression of your personality and
a statement respectful of conventions and trends. Brachmann’s
Autumn/Winter Collection 2015/16 is all about the modern-
ization of menswear, providing smooth transitions between ur-
ban chic and minimal elegance. Even in this new collection, the
Brachmann label handles the details of wearability, versatility,
and fit, with care.
Brachmann’s Autumn/Winter collection takes classics like the
Norfolk-Jacket, and the Trenchcoat, and pairs it with classics lines
from the cutaway, suit-and-shirt. New forms and patterns only
disclose themselves at second glance. Each piece is distinguished
by strong architectural lines, geometrical forms, layerings as well
as layerings, and subtle contrasts between muted colors.
D E S I G N E R “The aim of Post-Classical Menswear is to break up the uniformity of the classics
without sacrificing dignity, functionality, and aesthetic. We gain some leeway for the
contemporary man who wants to express his individual version of masculine identity with style.”

CHEF
Lora Kirk is one of Canada’s
leading chefs and has over 15
years of international culinary
experience. With her vast expertise
in cuisine, Chef Kirk has become
a great addition to critically-
acclaimed Canadian restaurant,
Ruby Watchco. She’s also an avid
advocate for supporting locally
grown ingredients from local
farmers. Her mantra is to focus on
ingredients that are locally grown,
harvested and raised, and cooked
to perfection with heart.
Chef Lora Kirk’s journey into the
culinary field began as a young
child living on her grandparent’s
farm in Peterborough, Ontario.
After graduating from Algonquin
College’s culinary program she
moved to London, England in
order to gain more experience. She
was able to work with renowned
chefs, such as Chef Gordon
Ramsey and Angela Hartnett at
the famous Connaught Hotel for
three years before returning back
to Toronto. Today, Chef Lora Kirk
is known as one of the most high-
profile women chefs in the country.
She shares her talents, expertise,
and fine culinary acumen as a chef
at Ruby Watchco in Toronto.
Outside of creating culinary
masterpieces, Chef Kirk loves to
spend time with her dogs, Charlie,
Pickles, and Pork Chop, as well as
going to the cottage and working
on her photography. As a young
girl she was always encouraged by
her mom, aunts, and grandparents
to have a passion for making great
dishes from scratch. Nothing was
a chore and this concept is still
instilled in her to this day. She cites
one of her first recipes as an apple
pie made for her dad.
Due to Chef Lora Kirk’s
upbringing, she has always placed
a strong emphasis on using locally
grown ingredients. The importance
is two things; knowing where the
food is coming from and how it is
being produced and grown, and
supporting the local farmers in the
community. Many people don’t
realize how crucial it is to support
your own community. It’s also
easier to obtain information about
the ingredients and build a strong
and healthy relationship with the
farmers through interaction.
Some of Chef Lora’s favourite
ingredients include fresh heirloom
tomatoes with basil, chilies, and
mint, very simple and fresh
ingredients. There are also key
ingredients that she says she
couldn’t live without such as eggs,
lemons or citrus, black pepper,
and dill. Dill is an herb that was
frequently used in her grandma’s
dishes.
After working at Ruby Watchco,
Chef Lora Kirk states that there
are three things that are the most
important when it comes to leading
kitchen staff. The first tip is to
lead by example so your staff sees
everything that you want them
to do, whether it be mopping the
kitchen floor or taking the time to
measure and follow a recipe from
start to finish. The second thing
is positive encouragement. If
you focus on mistakes and short-
comings too often your staff may
start to get discouraged. The final
piece of advice is to take the time
to celebrate successes, acknowledge
the staff when you get an award,
a great review, or a top ten list.
Although she is leading the staff,
she still thinks of each member as
family.

ANAND
KABRA
The Anand Kabra label is an elo-
quent blend of juxtapositions. It’s a
dialogue that embraces one’s heritage
but imagines it within modernism. It’s
a compelling contemporary aesthet-
ic that is born from a mellifluous ethos.
Melding maximal vibrancy with effortless
elegance, the collections are a play of the
sensual and the serene.
The label’s raison d’etre is its ability to
tell a story through vivid colours, brush
stroked graphics or prints in bloom and
exquisite embellishment. As it also does
with its contrasting monastic com-
posed counterparts. A strong the-
matic drives each collection where
the accent is on instinct, emotion,
intimacy and always unfailingly,
femininity.

  • 9. 1716 JAL THE BAND describe the band’s sound and its’ con- tinued success. “Jal makes its own space accordingly wherever it flows,” Mumtaz explained. “And thats how we made our space in the music-industry of sub-continent.” Lahore-native, Mumtaz enjoys every- thing from A R Rahman to John May- er, so it was no surprise when JAL’s sound came out the way it did. JAL’s brand of music is not quite Junoon or Vital Signs, in fact it is more docile and melodious—lovey-dovey, even. In it’s early days, this made it difficult for listeners—they either really liked their sound, or really hated it. Today, it cannot be denied that JAL’s brand of music has widened the um- brella for Pakistani soft rock. But even in his college days, as the band was be- ing formed, Mumtaz knew greatness was his destiny. In 13 years, there wasn’t a single bar- rier that could stop this band. Thanks to a little thing called the internet, they trained themselves to be the best art ists they could. Their song “Aadat” re- leased becoming an internet sensation. By the time the video had come out in 2003, all lovers of the Pakistan rock scene had already heard it. Mumtaz has learned to deal with the highs and lows of the industry with the simple mantra: “Work hard and have faith and never look back.” Without a doubt, it is because of JAL’s hard work in the industry that they have earned awards, and even interna- tional sponsorships (Gibson Guitars, Unilever etc.). In 2005, the song Aadat won Best Song, Best Lyrics, Best Com- position at the Indus Awards. Among many other awards, JAL has also been named Favourite Artist India (MTV Asia Awards 2006), and won Best Bal- lad Song for their song Moray Piya (MTV Asia Awards 2009). Their third album, Pyaas, is nominated for Best Music Album for the Hum Awards 2014 and at the Lux Style Awards 2014. So what else can we expect of JAL in the near future? Mumtaz confirmed Jal makes its own space accordingly wherever it flows and thats how we made our space in the music-industry of sub-continent. “ ” Belleza Moda Magazine sat down with Goher Mumtaz from JAL the Band this week to discuss their success, their struggles and their new album. But despite the shuffle in lineup and a lawsuit with former member, Atif Aslam, Mumtaz remains willfully loyal to JAL, which now includes Saad Sul- tan (guitar) and Amir Azhar (Bass)— and, of course, their fans. The term JAL, is often used in Urdu poetry as a reference to water. Coin- cidentally, it is the most natural way to with Belleza Moda that Jal’s new line- up was “ gearing up” for a tour in USA and Canada! Although JAL is proud of their many achievements, Mumtaz told Belleza Moda that, “I am humbled that my fans and JAL’s fans stays with JAL and wait for the new music still after so many changed.” Mumtaz wants his fans to know that, “You are the reason we became popu- lar and I promise you guys that JAL is here to stay and to deliver even better than before as ever.”
  • 10. 1918 Tarun Tahiliani, is known as the Czar of Couture on India’s runways for a reason. Tahiliani’s brand always aims to create the ulti- mate “India Modern” look. It is about traditional silhouettes combined with western notions of cut, construct and finish. The ultra-chic collection is inspired by the work of Lon- don painters, Amrit Singh and Rabindra Singh—also known as the Singh Sisters. Tahiliani translated The Singh Twins’ love of art into digitally printed designs, using selected elements from the art adding a touch of playfulness and vibrancy to the collection. By re- viving the technique of miniature paintings from the Mughal era, Tahiliani’s collection separates itself from the rest. Tahiliani’s Summer Resort collection, presented at Lakme Fashion Week 2015 in Mum- bai, India showcased imperial Indian prints with beaded embellishments and jewellery with high headgear and flowy garbs. Traditional silhouettes like saris and dhoti’s were reinvented with a new age vision incorporating bold colors, hand painted gold kalis and touches of Russian folk art. Fine embroidery, chikankari and resham, added drama to elegant ensembles paired with rounded sunnies. The use of Tahiliani’s bold resort palette in men’s wear, was particularly im- pressive. While being adventurous in cut and colour, Tahiliani caters to the modern man. He combines well-structured trousers ending just at the ankle, with short shirts, waist coats. He fearlessly uses in shades of blue, toasted almond, tangerine, yellow in addition to the digital prints that distinguish this line from his previous creations. Tahiliani’s interpretation of chic resort wear is a welcome combination between high points in design history and the needs of the modern Indian. While staying true to his sig- nature style of bright colours and layered textures, his Summer Resort collection presents post-modern couture that is both prac- tical and stun- ning. TARUNTAHILIANI
  • 11. 2120 I think my success has come from allowing myself to be ok with not being perfect. It gives my work a more organic feel. If makeup artist Christien Tinsley is involved in a movie, you know the film you are about to see will be transformational, if not magical. Some of his projects, including Mel Gibson’s shell-shocking Passion of the Christ and R. Balakrishnan’s Paa (starring Amitabh Bachchan), put his ability to manipulate faces and prosthetics, right into the spotlight. After watching such films, it may be hard to believe that this self-taught makeup artist puts a strong emphasis on “keep things simple.” At the age of seven, like many boys his age, he went to see Star Wars: A New Hope. He noticed the transformations of faces and limbs and thought: ‘I want to do that.’ He hasn’t looked back since. Tinsley thanks his small, but supportive, family in Washington D.C. His dad did the best he could to support what he thought was just a hobby for his son. The father-son unit had little money for schooling the aspiring designer and the Tinsley family had no connections to the film industry. “I mowed a lot of lawns…to earn enough money to buy plaster,” Tinsley remembers. “When you have little to no means to do what you want it makes it very difficult.” Today he is a well-recognized in the film industry. He was nominated three times for an Emmy in prosthetic makeup when he worked with American Horror Story. In 2008, he was named the Winner of the Academy Award for Technical achievement. He also won a National Film Award for best make up in the film Paa. The Academy Award Committee, recognized his creation of transfer techniques creating and applying 2D and 3D makeup. He says that his technique is informed by an instinctual knowledge of how things will look on film. “I lean on this more than the ability to overcomplicate my work,” says Tinsley. After working on the set of Pearl Harbour, Christien Tinsley founded “Tinsley Transfers”, which he uses to support his more creative projects. The company does everything from producing Halloween products to creating custom prosthetics and tatoos for films. In fact, his focus has nothing to do with perfection or mastery. “I think my success has come from allowing myself to be ok with not being perfect,” he says. “It gives my work a more organic feel.” “ ” MAKE UP ARTIST Christien Tinsley Credits to Christien Tinsley for the photos being used
  • 12. 2322 Nowadays, Christophe Guillarmé gets calls from Kelly Brook, Emma Miller, Christina Pitanguy, and many others, are contacting him in regards to fashion for the red carpet. The love he has for his work has finally begun to pay off in the last couple of years, culminating in one of the most successful years he’s had as a fashion designer. This year has been one of the best years for this talented designer. this young talent’s personal style. In the beginnings of his career, Christophe faced many challenges while working independently. He started his line in 2000 when the fashion industry was not as regulated as it is today. At that time, there was some leeway for mistakes made on the runway or behind the scenes. You don’t often get to hear an exclusive inside story on a fashion designer’s journey to the runway and the trials and tribulations faced to get there. Belleza Moda Magazine had a chance to interview up-and- coming fashion rookie, Christophe Guillarmé. As a young child, Christophe would always watch the Cannes Film Fes- tival from afar, spectating and getting inspiration for what would later be some of the most intricate designs in fash- ion. Even as a child watching the celebrities walk down the red carpet he would dream of one day having those same celebrities wearing his designs and showcasing them in a beautiful manner. Little did he know back then, Christo- phe Guillarmé would become a known name in the fashion industry. “Fashion for Christophe is a religion”. It’s a tough job, despite the glitz and glam factor of red carpets and fashion week. But no matter how many challenges Christophe faces, he still affectionately refers to the fashion industry as a ‘glam priesthood’. Surprisingly enough, the designs that he comes up with for various women starts to have an impact on his own personal style. A little bit of Riviera glamour, Parisian couture, and a splash of Dolce Vita lifestyle would be the perfect phrases to describe Obstinacy is, I guess, the best partner to creativity to realize what you have in mind. “ ” CHRISTOPHE GUILLARME FASHION DESIGNER
  • 13. 2524 W hen thinking about the most influential designers in India, Manish Arora is one of the first ones that come to mind. Fashion, to Manish, is a huge part of his life. It’s a spontaneous factor and it’s entirely drawn from his extensive travel experience from around the globe. As a fashion industry veteran, he is able to get inspiration from everything he sees, observes, listens, or hears. It could be something little that catches his eye or something monumental that will make a huge impact in his memories. The inspiration is also drawn from the colourful people he meets and the beautiful settings of the places he travels to. Manish’s personal style is a mixture of fun and eclectic clothing that still looks chic, is easy to choose and wear, yet has a bit of a wild side to it. The colour pink and gold is often used in his everyday wardrobe, creating the perfect eye-catching combination for a talented fashion designer. In terms of designing, he believes that it is a language of its own. Designing is something that’s distinct, colourful, instinctive, and fun. Work can always be fun as long as you enjoy what you’re doing, which is a mantra Manish lives by everyday he designs. Much like his personality, Manish dove headfirst into the fashion industry after almost completing a degree in Commerce. Although it is a change that many people would be terrified of, he was able to fearlessly encounter the fashion industry. At the beginning of his new career, there were many challenges that were faced, but all of them were conquered with unwavering bravery and passion. An- other thing that Manish cites as his main reason for success is making sure not to overthink. People tend to set themselves up for failure when they overthink about huge life Another thing Manish Arora is known for is his theatrical shows and larger- than-life designs. His designs are like an art piece on display at the museum. If you are lucky enough to be able to sit in on one of his runway shows, it will be as colourful and entertaining as a theater show just through the clothes and décor of the venue. The entire ex- perience will be like a journey with the designer itself through his trial of cre- ating the collection. As a result of his experience in the industry, Manish also has a strong grasp on the commercial presence of clothes on the runway. Photo Credits: Christian Lartillot MANISH ARORAFASHION DESIGNER Fashion designing should have a strong language of its own that’s distinct, colourful, yet instinctive - keeping it light, fun and effective. “ ”Instead of being based just in India, Manish Arora is expanding his brand’s reach. In the past ten years, Manish has been able to showcase his designs in London, Miami, Paris, and many more. He was even presented with the designer’s choice for the Best Col- lection Award in May of 2005. Look forward to seeing many more of this talented and quirky designer’s pieces on the runways in the coming years.
  • 14. 2726 Piloted driving at Audi is approaching production readiness at race pace. On one of the world’s most chal- lenging race tracks, the Sonoma Raceway in California, the latest generation of the Audi RS 7 piloted driving concept has surpassed previous top performances once again. Audi will be offering piloted driving for the first time in the upcoming generation of the Audi A8. For some time now, Audi has been testing piloted driv- ing under increasingly challenging conditions. In Octo- ber 2014, an RS 7 nicknamed “Bobby” already com- pleted a driverless lap on the Hockenheimring at speeds up to 240 km/h (149.1 mph). The new generation of the car is named “Robby,” has a power output of 412 kW (560 hp) and is around 400 kg (881.8 lb) lighter than its predecessor. Whether braking, steering or accelerat- ing, the piloted car controls all driving functions fully autonomously and with maximum precision. Audi is also testing piloted driving in the challenging sit- uation of real road traffic. At the start of 2015, “Jack” – an Audi A7 piloted driving concept with many near-production solutions – drove on public highways from Silicon Valley to Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Shortly thereafter, this car also drove autonomously on German autobahns at speeds up to 130 km/h (80.8 mph). At CES Asia in May 2015, journalists also had an opportunity to ex- perience piloted driving – in the traffic of megacity Shanghai. The development work, which includes driving on a very wide array of testing grounds, is yielding valu- able knowledge for series-production systems – from the sensor technology and data processing to vehicle control and stabilization. The technologies for piloted driving stand for safety, time savings, efficiency and convenience. The systems can make a valuable contribution to safety, especially when the driver is overwhelmed or underwhelmed by driving tasks. In addition, it gives drivers greater free- dom for organizing their time in the car. When used to temporarily assume driving tasks, the predictive technology makes driving more efficient, reduces stress and enhances comfort. Piloted driving will make its production debut in the next generation of the luxu- ry-class sedan, the Audi A8. The systems can assume control of the car during parking or in stop-and-go traffic on freeways at speeds up to 60 km/h (37.3 mph). “In Sonoma, we took the Audi RS 7 piloted driving concept to its physical limits lap after lap, and it handled the task with uniform precision,” says Thomas Müller, who is responsible for the development of brake, steering and driver assistance systems at Audi. “The car turned in lap times that were better than those of sports car drivers.” The RS 7 took just 2:01.01 minutes to complete the 4,050-meter (2.5 mi) circuit. • 16. 3130 VANCE JOY ABOUT Vance Joy is staring down the barrel for the cover of his long-await- ed debut Dream Your Life Away. “You can see people’s personalities in their eyes,” Vance Joy says. Vance Joy has had an unexpectedly long time to finish his debut album. There’s a simple reason why - his first single “Riptide” kept charming the world and its charming author followed it around the globe. Several times over. In Australia, Riptide moved from alternative to commercial radio, then commercial TV and got a second wind after it became the first song to top Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown without an album to call home. Books and films also provided plenty of inspiration. The movie in “Riptide” was Midnight Cowboy, while on Dream Your Life Away the tune “We All Die Trying To Get It Right” started life when Vance Joy was watching the movie Infamous about writer Truman Capote. Dream Your Life Away was recorded mainly just outside of Seattle with producer Ryan Hadlock (Lumineers, Gossip, Johnny Flynn) includ- ing a handful of songs (“Mess is Mine,” “Winds of Change” and “Georgia”) being finished off in a tree house on the studio grounds. “It was beautiful,” Vance Joy says of the gravity-defying recording sessions, “And it was cool being so super close as we were recording.” With his debut album finally finished, Vance Joy is in the enviable position of the entire world wanting to hear it all at the same time. He’s already blacked out the next year for touring, on the back of nearly two years of touring since “Riptide” was a mere ripple. The album title, Dream Your Life Away, came to him after hearing John Lennon’s 1981 classic “Watching the Wheels.” Dream Your Life Away is released on September 9. • 17. 3332 Arko Pravo Mukherjee is one of the most promising new songwriters and music composers in Bollywood. The Kolkata native has once enjoyed critical acclaim and earned popular votes for his lyrics and music for such big-banner Bollywood films such as JISM 2 (2012) and Yaariyan (2014). Arko has been nominated in a number of music awards including Radio Mirchi Music Award and the Stardust Awards in 2013. I am more a Bengali folk musician, than anything else. I’ve been learning different forms of folk, jazz, and several other genres of music from around the world. I sing different forms of Bengali-folk forms, like songs of the river men, which is called Bhati- ali. There are also Shaari and Manbhumi songs and so much more. I believe that music has travelled on it’s own ac- cord across the world. I do a bit of African-Cuban music, Blue grass, Latin-American music. I also love doing Irish-Scottish folk songs and French music. I’m very interested in the entire gypsy trade and how the music evolved in different parts of Asia and Europe. I love playing music live and I am more into or- ganic music rather than electronic music. I have sung in festivals in France and England, and I am truly proud to play in these festivals. A solid part of the audience doesn’t understand my language, yet we connect and their reactions are priceless. I started playing live music at 11, professional- ly in a rock band. Then I moved into blues-rock while switching back and forth between metal and grunge. Then came a time, I realized, I couldn’t have much electronic influence in my music. So I moved to an organic style. My parents have trained me in Indian classical music, as they are both classical singers. Both of them are brilliant singers. I have been featured in a travelogue documenta- ry with ATN Bangladesh talking about Bengali songs, it’s history and influences (Bhorsha Thakuk Bangla Gaan e – A Journey With Arko Mukherjee, 2014). I am also in a band called Fiddler’s Green, in Ben- gal as well as a project in Europe, building a bridge between Indian and European music as a whole, called “Crossover”. I have also been involved in an electronic-based project. It’ll be interesting since I have been away from electronic music for a while. I would love to become a filmmaker, but I’m really picky about it. I’ve been a theatre and photogra- phy student for a while but I’m never really satis- fied with the ideas I come up with when writing a script. I love to travel the Himalayas. I love chilly destina- tions since I come from a very hot city and I need to escape sometimes. It’s tough to pick a favourite album or song since I listen to several genres. I really like Dixon, Tito Bren, Body Guy—especially “Black Night” by Body Guy—the list goes on. “ ”

  • 22. 4342 “Nominations and awards are good. They give you an encouragement and motivation to work even harder, but the biggest award is the audiences’ love and appreciation.” SINGER MOHAMMED IRFAN Mohammed Irfan, within his five-year career, has become the poster boy for the modern Bolly- wood playback industry. Irfan’s musical career took off when he began competing in televised competitions like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Amul Star Voice of India. In the summer of 2008, he was the last man standing in another tele- vised singing competition, Jo Jeeta Wahi Super Star 2. Within the year, Irfan was recommended to A.R. Rahman to have him sing Behne De—a balad written for the film Raavan (2010). “Reality shows give you instant fame and popularity,” says Irfan. “That’s the first big thing anybody needs if they are coming from out- side the industry.” From a young age, Irfan knew he wanted to be a playback singer just like Mohammed Rafi and Sonu Nigam. Irfan’s talent was first rec- ognized by his teacher, Mr. Ram- achari. Even today, Irfan thankfully credits Mr. Ramachari for giving him the musical training and guid- ance he needed. In 2011, he sang his breakout song, Phir Mohabbat, alongside Arjit Singh. The song was written for the movie Murder2 (2011) by Mithoon Sharma. The composer met Irfan back in 2008 and has since worked with him on several of his most popular songs. “Working with him doesn’t feel like working,” says Irfan, about Mithoon. “It’s a very comfortable space for me and I feel God has blessed our association.” While he continues to work with Mithoon and other Bollywood pro- ducers, Irfan has also worked with film industries all over India, sing- ing songs in Bengali, Marathi, Ori- ya, Tamil and Telugu. • 28. 5554 Today Champagne Gosset is owned by the Cointreau fami- ly, also owners of Cognac Frapin. Annual production is 1.3 million bottles per year – many times more than beloved small growers such as Billiot, Larmandier-Bernier, or Gimonnet, but a tiny fraction of the production of the big negociant houses (Moet produces a staggering 30 million bottles per year). The wines are produced almost entirely (95%) from premier crus and grand crus vineyards. The style is resolutely traditional: in order to preserve maximum freshness, the wines never undergo malolactic fermentation. The prestige cuvees are always rid- dled and disgorged entirely by hand.  Gosset wines are a classic expression of the tradi- tion of Champagne, at once powerful and full of fi- nesse. Wonderfully fresh when young, they age superb- ly, mellowing into wines of great grace and refinement. Gosset Champagne 1) Chocolate Mint This spirit has a light and velvety textured body. Bite into this chocolate mint for a decadent indulgence, featuring natural chocolate and mint flavours that go over well in any stylish Martini or hot drink. 2) Crème brûlée This irresistible flavour is a spot-on recreation of the classic dessert, without the added calories or extra sweetness. It is a fine balance of vanilla bean, brown sugar and caramel, with a soft and smooth finish. 3) Cucumber It’s generous nose is imbued with the aroma of garden fresh cucumbers. The vodka has a delicate and clean cucumber flavour that lingers on the palate for a remarkably long time. It makes a great Bloody Caesar, or even a Mojito. Iceberg Vodka Dan Aykroyd and John Alexander wanted to craft a vessel worthy of one of the world’s purest vodkas. A symbol of life, reflecting power and enlightenment, to hold their award-win- ning white spirit of super natural purity. Crystal Head contains no additives. No glycerol, citrus oils or sugars. Nothing is added to enhance or mask the taste. Highest quality peaches and cream corn is distilled four times into a neutral grain spirit and blended with pristine water from Newfoundland, Canada. The liquid is then filtered seven times, of which three are through layers of semi precious crystals known as Herkimer diamonds. CRYSTAL VODKA Made from 100% Colorado rye, this 90 proof rye mash whis- key is both complex and extraordinarily smooth. Aged at least two years in new American white oak barrels, Woody Creek Colorado Straight Rye Whiskey embodies distinct rye charac- ter with pronounced white pepper throughout the palate, notes of citrus peel on the nose, and an oaky vanilla mid-palate. This rare 100% Colorado rye whiskey is mashed, distilled, aged and blended by Woody Creek Distillers in Basalt, Colorado. • 31. 6160 CHOREOGRAPHER T “ ” Twitter: @terencehere Instagram: @terence_here Facebook: terence.lewis.inc erence Lewis began his professional dance career at the tender age of six. Even at such a young age, Terence’s appetite for the stage grew. Despite his interest in dance, his formal dance training came eight years later when he was fourteen and representing his school at the All Mumbai Dance Cham- pionship. He ended up getting first place at the compe- tition, only to have a judge tell him that he shouldn’t get excited as he was only the best of the worst. Unlike other individuals, Terence was not dissuaded from pursuing his passion for dancing. Instead of giving up he decided to ask her for critique on his dance routine in order to im- prove. From that point on, Terence began attending les- sons held by the judge and his technique improved vastly in a short amount of time. Despite being one of India’s most talented choreogra- phers nowadays, Terence had started from humble begin- nings. He was born into a poor family of eight children with a father who had to carry the entire family’s financial burdens. However, through hard work and determination he managed to show his family his ongoing passion for dance. During the initial years of working in the dance profession, life was difficult and dance was not considered full-time profession. To break through this barrier, Ter- ence realized that he would have to take a different path. While giving personal lessons to a few students, Terence also did a professional course with Talwalkars to become a fitness consultant. During this time, he had an idea of combining dance and exercise, ending up in it becoming a huge hit. After becoming renowned in the dance profession, Ter- ence was offered a position as a judge on various dance reality shows such as Dance India Dance. He cites these reality shows for the fame that has propelled him to be- coming a household name. Not only that, the admiration and love people have for him as a choreographer helps him strive to become a better judge every day. He has also worked with top celebrities in India such as Madhu- ri Dixit Nene, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Deepika, Ka- trina Ranbir, and many more. For fans of Terence or those looking to learn more about him in the future make sure to check out his work at JUGNEE the contemporary dance festival in Dubai. There will be breath-taking performances by the Na- vdhara Dance India Theater and the Terence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company. If you’re young and looking to join the dance industry then Terence believes that you need to work hard and persevere. It’s an extremely tough industry and not every- one makes it. However, if you work hard and you love to dance then nothing is unachievable. If you work hard and you love to dance then nothing is unachievable. TERENCE LEWIS

He is committed to “carrying the legacy forward and handing the baton off to the next generation who are getting ready to enter the field of music.” Gharana is, therefore a precious form of expres- sion to him. It is an ideology for living life. Ghara- na musicians can be found all over India: Gwalior, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Patiala and Rampur. When it was his turn to bring his classical training to the world, Shafqat took a rather unorthodox road. Shafqat admits that, elders in other gharanas would have opposed this choice. But when he chose to ex- periment with different genres of music, his family was very supportive. He says that: “My ancestors had already been doing experiments with music.” His first experiment was a Sufi Rock band Fuson. He struggled for sixteen years before he was able to make his mark in the music industry. The third track on the band’s first album Saagar (2002), “Aankhon Ke Saagar” became an instant hit. The rest is history. Playback legend, Shankar Mahadevan, just hap- pened to hear “Aankhon Ke Saagar” on the radio. After getting a hold of Shafqat, he asked him to sing Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s “Mitwa” in the studio. The track, was used for for the Bollywood Movie Kabhi Alveida na Kehna. “Every song that I sing, be it my own composition or someone else’s is a new challenge. Every time you go on the mic you have to prove yourself and every new song is a challenge.” Shafqat is the kind of person who can always find something to love about a song. Throughout his career, from Kabhi Alvieda na Kehna’s “Mitwa” (2006) to Satyagraha’s “Raske Bhare Tore Naina” (2013), Shafqat looks to his father Ustad Amanat Ali Khan for inspiration. “I have been very lucky to have worked with the best in the industry so far,” says Shafqat. “All of them understood my strengths and my abilities and gave me their best work.” He continues to perform live for Coke Studio Pa- kistan, reworking some of his flagship songs. He hinted to us that there will be more original work soon including a new album and a music video. He did mention that, “...if everything goes according to plan,” there may also be a North American tour soon enough.

The resulting garments in gray khaki have a slightly oriental look. “I was so glad when my dear friend Felipe Bronze invited me to design the uniforms for Oro. It was a great chance to bring fashion together with the art of gastronomy,” says Niemeyer. The wines are selected by Argentine sommelier Cecilia Aldaz, who was raised in the Mendoza region by a family that grew their own vines and experimented with home wine making. The Oro wine list, with around 120 wines, is somewhat eclectic, juxtaposing classics from the old world with unusual options. “One thing we believe in here is using rare, little-known grapes with special characteristics that harmonize better with the Oro menu.” WINE HISTORY

  • 53. 105104 E L I Z A B E T H C H U A R C H I T E C T WHY ARCHITECTURE MATTERS It is projected that 70% of the world’s population will be living in cities by 2050. This is why Elizabeth Chiu-Richter, newly elected president of the American Institute of Architecture works so hard. To her architecture is not just about buildings, it’s about the communities that live and convene within them. “As architects, we use our creativity to serve society—to make our communities better places to live,” remarked Chiu-Richter, in her AIA Presidential speech, in Washington, D.C. Present-day Chiu-Richter has made herself a monu- mental figure. She has won awards for her work as an architect and a representative for all women in pursuit of life beyond the household. Upon graduation from the University of Texas, she was given the National Ar- chitectural Award for her community-sensitive designs. Her award-winning public radio series “The Shape of Texas” (1998- 2011) was aimed at heightening the pub- lic’s awareness of regional and urban issues in Texas, won her recognition all over the U.S. Just before an- nouncing her candidacy for AIA president in 2014, Chiu-Richter was the president for the Texas Society of Architects and part of Texas’ National board of directors, and an active community volunteer. “Architecture is more relevant than ever,” says Chiu-Richter. “Architecture is at the center of that ur- ban growth and architects have a leading role in the de- sign of environments that are healthy, sustainable, and resilient.” Her favourite cluster of projects, are inspired by her childhood, growing up in Hong Kong, where people live in tiny flats. Public spaces are often become an ex- tension of their living room. With Richter Architects, she designed safety-rest areas all over Texas (Brooks County, Corpus-Christi, Dallas, Kennedy County, Chiu-Richter believes that architects have the and the know-how to build a better world. “I feel very fortunate to hold this high office and work closely with colleagues on the AIA National Board and the Strategic Council to build a strong association and a robust profession.” Chiu-Richter still serves her community in Cor- pus-Christi Texas, as CEO of Richter Architects with her husband, David Richter. The mid-sized firm is known for their dedication to the pursuit of thoughtful, functional, well-crafted environments. Richter Archi- tects have designed everything from public renovation projects at the National Museum of the Pacific War and several schools in Texas. When she is not being CEO or President, she is the working mom of three children, Colorado County). To her they are more than just re- strooms and drinking fountains: “They are points of engagement where the traveler experiences the cultural heritage and landscape of the region.” She encourages emerging architects that, “each of us has an obligation to help all the bright, passionate, and creative young women and men to succeed. They are the profession’s future.” “We do encourage those in the building and real estate world to take every step possible towards a more sustainable built environment. LEED and other similar rating systems represent a good starting point toward a more sustainable built environment.” “ ” Architecture is hope. It stands as a record of our dreams and values. It’s about people and it speaks to the rhythms of daily life.

Their brand is known for their line of post-classical menswear since 2012. While their line is still considered new, they are al- ready having talking with retailers in New York, Toronto and Los Angeles. About Jennifer (and Olaf Kranz) Jennifer Brachmann always knew that she wanted to combining the useful with the beautiful, making the world a little bit more sophisticated. As a fash- ion designer, Brachmann loves that she can mull through the creative pro- cess on her own terms. “I can decide whether to refine the model or to reject the draft,” she says. “I can realize and express my ideas in fashion very fast and without compro- mise.” On the Brachmann Label In 2013, Brachmann received a grant from the Art Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt that enabled her to Post-Classical Menswear. The label debuted at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin in January 2014, followed up with a show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin in July 2014 and then another spot at the Berlin Showroom in Paris on January 2015. “We will also present our new Autumn/Winter Collection 2015/16 at the Berlin Showroom in Paris, where we will meet with buyers from North America.” On the New collection: Brachmann believes that style is a process of developing a sig- nature look that is both an expression of your personality and a statement respectful of conventions and trends. Brachmann’s Autumn/Winter Collection 2015/16 is all about the modern- ization of menswear, providing smooth transitions between ur- ban chic and minimal elegance. Even in this new collection, the Brachmann label handles the details of wearability, versatility, and fit, with care. Brachmann’s Autumn/Winter collection takes classics like the Norfolk-Jacket, and the Trenchcoat, and pairs it with classics lines from the cutaway, suit-and-shirt. New forms and patterns only disclose themselves at second glance. Each piece is distinguished by strong architectural lines, geometrical forms, layerings as well as layerings, and subtle contrasts between muted colors. D E S I G N E R “The aim of Post-Classical Menswear is to break up the uniformity of the classics without sacrificing dignity, functionality, and aesthetic. We gain some leeway for the contemporary man who wants to express his individual version of masculine identity with style.”
  • 57. 113112 Always travel. Eat. Enjoy your life. Find what makes you happy. “ ” CHEF Lora Kirk is one of Canada’s leading chefs and has over 15 years of international culinary experience. With her vast expertise in cuisine, Chef Kirk has become a great addition to critically- acclaimed Canadian restaurant, Ruby Watchco. She’s also an avid advocate for supporting locally grown ingredients from local farmers. Her mantra is to focus on ingredients that are locally grown, harvested and raised, and cooked to perfection with heart. Chef Lora Kirk’s journey into the culinary field began as a young child living on her grandparent’s farm in Peterborough, Ontario. After graduating from Algonquin College’s culinary program she moved to London, England in order to gain more experience. She was able to work with renowned chefs, such as Chef Gordon Ramsey and Angela Hartnett at the famous Connaught Hotel for three years before returning back to Toronto. Today, Chef Lora Kirk is known as one of the most high- profile women chefs in the country. She shares her talents, expertise, and fine culinary acumen as a chef at Ruby Watchco in Toronto. Outside of creating culinary masterpieces, Chef Kirk loves to spend time with her dogs, Charlie, Pickles, and Pork Chop, as well as going to the cottage and working on her photography. As a young girl she was always encouraged by her mom, aunts, and grandparents to have a passion for making great dishes from scratch. Nothing was a chore and this concept is still instilled in her to this day. She cites one of her first recipes as an apple pie made for her dad. Due to Chef Lora Kirk’s upbringing, she has always placed a strong emphasis on using locally grown ingredients. The importance is two things; knowing where the food is coming from and how it is being produced and grown, and supporting the local farmers in the community. Many people don’t realize how crucial it is to support your own community. It’s also easier to obtain information about the ingredients and build a strong and healthy relationship with the farmers through interaction. Some of Chef Lora’s favourite ingredients include fresh heirloom tomatoes with basil, chilies, and mint, very simple and fresh ingredients. There are also key ingredients that she says she couldn’t live without such as eggs, lemons or citrus, black pepper, and dill. Dill is an herb that was frequently used in her grandma’s dishes. After working at Ruby Watchco, Chef Lora Kirk states that there are three things that are the most important when it comes to leading kitchen staff. The first tip is to lead by example so your staff sees everything that you want them to do, whether it be mopping the kitchen floor or taking the time to measure and follow a recipe from start to finish. The second thing is positive encouragement. If you focus on mistakes and short- comings too often your staff may start to get discouraged. The final piece of advice is to take the time to celebrate successes, acknowledge the staff when you get an award, a great review, or a top ten list. Although she is leading the staff, she still thinks of each member as family. LORA KIRK
