2. Antonio Ortiz Moreno 2SR
The good: - Wear costumes.
Whether at home, at the party, or children
at school or trick-or-treating, whatever. For
adults it is an occasion to be children again
even for a day. And for children, do not tell.
It's making your fantasies come true. -
Healthy fun. I love the costume parties, the
power to laugh a while and see the originality that many have when celebrating this
date. Making a party for big and / or kids and even for pets is supremely fun. Also it is
to go with the children to do trick-or-treat or in our language "tricky tricky Halloween",
ask for sweets, give sweets ... I think it's great because for them it's like a free pass of
gorging on sugar and forbidden goodies. Once a year does not hurt. (dads, do not be
hypocrites that you do this once a year get drunk or do something forbidden so do not
be so hard on your children and let them eat your candy). - The decoration. From
pumpkins to skeletons and ghosts at the doors. The colors of autumn are absolutely
beautiful. Here there are also those who spend a fortune decorating their houses but it
is worth it because it is like changing the environment and not letting the end of
summer be synonymous with depression but to continue the party.
The bad - The true evil ones.
There are bad people in the world. I do
not have the slightest doubt about that.
And many of these characters take
advantage of this occasion to do
inadmissible things like stealing,
kidnapping children, and many other
rogues with no name or forgiveness. -
Those who are offended. Not so much because they are offended, anyone can
disagree with what they want. But I refer to those who insist on changing others so that
they think and act like them. I respect or try to respect everyone with their customs and
beliefs. But it bothers me when others do not do the same with me. Let me celebrate
what I want and how I want, believe in what I want, do not try to convince me that the
date is a bad thing etc ... if it is what you think is ready. I respect it and I will not invite
you to my party. But do not hurt me either. Because for me the negative or the positive
in any aspect puts it to oneself. - Prices of costumes. There is no right for a piece of
cloth to charge you 40 dollars! But the solution is to make costume swap with your
friends.

5. The day of the Dead
The Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a
Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, and
by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. They focuses
on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and
remember friends and family members who have died,
and help support their spiritual journey.
It is particularly celebrated in Mexico where the day
is a public holiday. Gradually, it was associated with
October 31, November 1, and November 2 to coincide
with the Western Christianity tridium of Allhallowtide:
All Saints' Eve, All Saints' Day, and All Souls' Day.
Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars called ofrendas, honoring
the deceased using calaveras, Aztec marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the
departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts.
The first of November they celebrate it for the children, they pray and remember them, and the
second of November it´s celebrate it for the adults. Other important thing is the flowers that
Mexican use to garnish the grave of their decease family it´s call Damasquina. It believes that it
is use like a light in the spiritual world and helps to all souls to get in to houses of its familiars.
6. Cultural Appropriation on Halloween
This Halloween, as every year, many people will decide to dress up to celebrate this
day. Halloween is a centennial celebration that in recent years has become more
international than ever. Most people dress up as zombies, witches, ghosts, etc;
However, others prefer to dress up with typical attires of specific cultures (native
americans, black people, arabs, latinos, asians, etc) and this is not okay. This is not
very common in Spain but in the U.S. Many people think that this is not that big of a
deal and that these cultural minorities get offended very easily; The thing is that when
your culture has been oppressed or colonized by white people for centuries you have
a completely valid reason to complain or feel offended when they use your cultural
features as a costume. This is called Cultural Appropriation and by definition means:
the adoption of elements of a minority culture by members of a dominant culture and
because of the precense of power imbalances that are a byproduct of colonialism and
oppresion is distinct from equal cultural exchange.
Most people who use a culture as a costume don't realize that what they're doing is
wrong and say things like: I'm honouring you by dresing up like this, why do you get
offended? Here's why it's wrong: Impact overrides intent. The people offended by
these innocent choices don't have the opportunity to read your mind and understand
your motives -they only see the consequences of that ignorance and regardless of why
you're wearing that outfit you're perpetuating ideas that directly attack marginalised
people- From this perspective, your intent is irrelevant.
Now that I've explained what Cultural Appropriation on Halloween is let's talk about
the opposite and less controversial side of this topic; Cultural Appreaciation, which is
by definition: the use of elements of a culture while honoring, respecting and valuing
the source they came from. And the only thing I have to add to this is that, this is
completely okay if you do so.
