Horse racing has ancient roots with humans wanting to determine the fastest horses and gambling on races having a long history. Dressage involves progressively training horses to perform natural movements like collection, impulsion, and obedience on command. Equestrian events were first included in the modern Olympics in 1900 and by 1912 included the three main disciplines seen today - eventing, show jumping, and dressage. Eventing combines dressage, show jumping, and cross-country jumping. Show jumping tests the ability of horse and rider to jump obstacles in sequence with the fewest mistakes. The FEI governs international equestrian competition including Olympic events plus combined driving, endurance, reining and vaulting at the World Equestrian Games
