The document summarizes the Greg Secker Foundation's efforts to build 100 homes in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan destroyed homes and livelihoods. It discusses how the foundation focuses on education and life skills programs. It then provides details on the Build a House, Build a Home program which aims to construct typhoon-resistant homes and job training facilities to help victims become self-sufficient. THE GREG SECKER
FOUNDATION
INVESTING IN CHILDREN’S POTENTIAL
Founded in 2010, The Greg Secker Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation committed to positively improving the
quality of life of people around the world. Focusing on education, life skills and leadership initiatives, the foundation
strives to equip communities with the essential tools for success.

Although we are proud to work with extremal charities, our heart lies with our internal foundation projects.
Youth programmes - We have held very successful youth events since
2011. Starting in the UK with our Youth Success Summit, the week-long
youth camps focused on rebuilding the confidence of disadvantaged youth
and to improve their skillsets. The Summits received rave reviews and were
held in 2011, 2012, and 2013. In 2014 the foundation decided to upscale
the youth programmes by holding a Youth Leadership Festival. In 2016 we
took our knowledge from our UK programmes to South Africa with the
Greg Secker Foundation’s Inspired Youth programme. The motivational
workshops were designed to equip disadvantaged youth with the essential tools of success. We provided participants
with access to the country’s leading young aspirational role models – which helped improve their confidence and
capabilities.
Build a House, Build a Home - Presently our key project is our Build a House, Build a Home programme. We are
building 100 homes for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the municipality of Lemery. The project is focused around
sustainability, and we are building a training centre to provide skills training and livelihood programmes for our
beneficiaries. This booklet will highlight the utter devastation faced by victims of the Typhoon, and what we are doing
to help them restore their community.
What do we do?
Support existing charities
We have our own foundation projects as well as supporting global charities to bring hope and inspiration to young
people. Amongst others, the Greg Secker Foundation is proud to work with Virgin Unite, Barnardo’s, Ubuntu
Education Fund, Starkey Hearing Foundation, and House of Refuge Foundation, Inc.

The Philippines are hit by approximatively 20 typhoons each year. On
November the 8th 2013, the strongest Typhoon ever recorded on
landfall hit the Philippines. The destruction path was 100 miles wide
with winds of over 170 mph. It created a storm surge of up to 45ft along
the coast. Typhoon Haiyan has pushed millions of people further into
poverty and despair.
Do you remember the deadliest storm ever recorded?

Most rebuilding projects in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan were directed
towards coastal towns, as these were the worst effected, but this left little, if any,
restructuring assistance for inland towns and villages also in the Typhoons path.
The municipality of Lemery in Iloilo was badly affected by the Typhoon and many
people are still living in temporary accommodation, their livelihoods destroyed.
The Greg Secker Foundation has made a commitment to the people of Lemery
to help restore their community.
7. 12 13Temporary HousingWeek 6 of construction of the first 20 houses
Our goal is to build 100 new homes, designed to withstand future Typhoons, which will also include a sustainable
livelihood programme with the view of helping families to support themselves.
Many of our beneficiaries are currently living in unsanitary and unsafe temporary accommodation.
This project will dramatically change their lives, and for many this will be the first secure house they have ever lived in.
Local is key and we are therefore focused on using a local workforce as well as local supplies, thereby contributing to
the overall economy of the municipality of Lemery.
We are partnering with the Central Philippine University to provide skills training for our beneficiaries. We have big
dreams and our vision is a long term plan to create a brighter future for this community.

Champion of Change
We are looking for special individuals to become our Champions of Change! A Champion of Change
sponsors the construction of a family home. For $10,000 you can make a lasting impact on a family in the
Philippines, giving them a new lease in life. The house is strong enough to withstand future typhoons and
as beneficiaries of the project, the family will also have access to skills training and livelihood programmes
that will enable them to rise from below the poverty line. The donated family home will be dedicated to
your family with a plaque of appreciation, and you can visit the family that you have helped in many years
to come and see first-hand the house you have sponsored.
Please get in touch to hear more about our different donor packages or if you have any questions about
the foundation.
