Bryan O. Tamayo Facilitating Learner-Centered Teaching
Chapter 1 Module
Challenge: (Page 6)
1. “Variety is the spice of life.” How is this statement applicable in the
selection of instructional strategies, motivational strategies, and effective
strategies?
Teachers use a variety of approaches in their instructional strategies. They also use
eye-catching instructional materials to make sure that students are able to learn key
knowledge and skills that teachers are trying to impart. This makes learning more
fun and somehow exciting for students, especially since teacher give them and show
them different designs in instructional materials and they also tweak their teaching
techniques so that all students are able to catch up. Teachers also use rewards and
punishments to keep their students motivated. May it be in the form of simple
acknowledgement and praises, material rewards or added workload, teachers make
sure that there is variety. Variety in strategies make teaching and learning pleasant.
2. “This subject is my Waterloo”-a statement most learners attribute to
subjects they find difficult. If you were the teacher, what motivation and
affective strategies would you use to alter this perception?
If I were the teacher, I would empathize to the situation of the learners. I would
relate my experiences when I was a student to their situation. That way, they would
feel that even someone who is older or has has authority go through tough situations
and face difficulties. I would also make the lessons understandable at their level
using simpler words and language to explain topics in a way that it would be easier
for them to understand what I’m trying to teach. I would accompany this with
occasional rewards and praises to make them feel that their hard work is
acknowledged.

  • 1. Bryan O. Tamayo Facilitating Learner-Centered Teaching Chapter 1 Module Challenge: (Page 6) 1. “Variety is the spice of life.” How is this statement applicable in the selection of instructional strategies, motivational strategies, and effective strategies? Teachers use a variety of approaches in their instructional strategies. They also use eye-catching instructional materials to make sure that students are able to learn key knowledge and skills that teachers are trying to impart. This makes learning more fun and somehow exciting for students, especially since teacher give them and show them different designs in instructional materials and they also tweak their teaching techniques so that all students are able to catch up. Teachers also use rewards and punishments to keep their students motivated. May it be in the form of simple acknowledgement and praises, material rewards or added workload, teachers make sure that there is variety. Variety in strategies make teaching and learning pleasant. 2. “This subject is my Waterloo”-a statement most learners attribute to subjects they find difficult. If you were the teacher, what motivation and affective strategies would you use to alter this perception? If I were the teacher, I would empathize to the situation of the learners. I would relate my experiences when I was a student to their situation. That way, they would feel that even someone who is older or has has authority go through tough situations and face difficulties. I would also make the lessons understandable at their level using simpler words and language to explain topics in a way that it would be easier for them to understand what I’m trying to teach. I would accompany this with occasional rewards and praises to make them feel that their hard work is acknowledged.
