2. Art Movements
Art Movement is a group of artist who agree on
general principles about styles,tecniques or
approaches.
The following art movements are responsible for
having created the different art/design styles namely,
realistic, semi-realistic and abstract styles. Study the
contribution of each movement to the history of art.
3. Realist Artists
This art movement refers to the artistic movement, which
began in France in the 1850s.
Realist artist believe in realism in the visual arts. Realism
is the depiction of subjects as they appear in everyday life,
without embellishment or interpretation. The term also describes
works of art which, in revealing the truth, may emphasize the
ugly or sordid.
5. Impressionist Artists
Impressionists use impressionism in their works of art.
Impressionism is a style of painting that gives the impression
made by the subject on the artist without much attention to
details.
A school of late 18th century French painters introduced
pictured appearances by strokes of unmixed colors to give the
impression of reflected light.
7. Abstract Expressionist Artists
A New York school of painting. Abstract expressionism
movement introduced freely created abstractions. They believe
that art should represent the artists’ own reactions. The first
important school of American painting to develop independently
of European styles. These abstract paintings were now housed in
the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York.
