Recent History
What Is Life Without Internet?
Throughout the recent history, the
Philippines has been one of a few
nations that demonstrate unity for a call
to action or social change. These
campaigns for social change would not
have been successful if not for ICT.
7. EDSA( People Power Revolution)
The People Power Revolution lasted from 1983-1986.
During a radio broadcast of Radyo Veritas, Cardinal
Sin encouraged the Filipino people to help end the
regime of then President Ferdinand Marcos. A major
protest took place along EDSA February 22 to 25,1986
involving two million Filipinos from different sectors.
These included civilians, political parties the military
and religious groups. The radio broadcast helped
change the course of history. Without it, Filipino
would not have been moved into action.
EDSA Dos
This is also known as the 2001 EDSA Revolution,
happened during January 17 to 21, 2001. It was
fueled after 11 prosecutors of the President Joseph
Estrada walked out of the impeachment trial. As a
result, the crowd in EDSA grew over the course of
few days through text Brigades.
Million People March
This is a series of protest that mainly took place in
Luneta Park from August 22 to 26, 2013. There were
also demonstrations that happened around key cities
in the Philippines and some Location overseas. The
organizers and promoters of the Million People March
used Facebook and Change.org as their mediums.
Yolanda People Finder
Recent storms in Philippines history gave birth to the
People finder database powered by Google. During
Typhoon Yolanda, the people finder was a vital tool
for people across the globe to track the situation of
their relatives. This proved to be successful and is
now adapted by more organizations to help people
track their relatives during calamities.

Cyber Bullying or online harassment is
when a person is tormented,
threatened, harassed, humiliated,
embarrassed or otherwise targeted by
another person using the internet,
interactive and digital technologies or

Describes global disparities, primarily
between developed and developing
countries, in regards to access to computing
and information resources such as
the Internet and the opportunities derived
from such access. As with a smaller unit of
analysis, this gap describes an inequality that
exists, referencing a global scale.

ICT can be used as medium for advocacies
because it is effortless. ICT make our work
easier and in ICT promoting our business can be
easier. Before, the method they use are posting
flyers and tarpaulins but because of ICT we have
the access to the technology which can make
our work less in time and make bigger

24. Digital Citizenship
When we say Digital Citizenship it refers
to the responsible use of technology by
anyone who uses digital devices to
engage in society. It’s also thinking and
acting responsible in how you
communicate and behave online, also it
help us to keep our private information
safe.
Digital Citizens refers to a person who has
the knowledge and skills to effectively use
digital technologies to communicate with
others, participate in society and create
and consume digital content. Digital
citizenship is about confident and positive
engagement with digital technologies.
A Digital Footprint is data that is left
behind when users have been online.
There are two types of digital footprints
which are passive and active. A passive
footprint is made when information is
collected from the user without the
person knowing this is happening.

to responsibly use technology to become a
digital citizen and it is respect, educate,

done over large distances via the internet and other

relates to the DIGITAL DIVIDE which describes how
some students have access to the internet while
others do not.
Digital Etiquette -This elements refers to
exhibiting appropriate behavior in each digital tool. In
all social media platform, there’s this one online
behavior that anyone needed to act and it is think
before you post, ask yourself if your comment is
constructive before you post.

Digital Law -The online environment has room for both
positive and negative interactions. Digital law deals with legal
rights and restrictions governing technology usage. To prevent any
kind of online crime, no matter how serious, students as digital
citizens need to know the law and how it applies to them in
particular.
Digital Rights -Digital rights are those human rights and legal
rights that allow individuals to access, use, create, and publish
digital media or to access and use computers, other electronic
devices, and telecommunications networks.
Digital Health -Improper use of technology may be determined
to shown one’s health. People who overused technology can also
experience migraines and headaches. Other effect can be eye strain,
and too much radiation can affect our eyes especially when using
our cellphone and computer in a dark room.
Digital Security -Digital security refers to
various ways of protecting a computer's internet
account and files from intrusion by an outside
user or a hacker.

online community can create a petition and ask other to sign it. During past times petitions
are only done through signing paper, usually done by a group asking for signatures via travel.
Change.org gives access to more people by allowing the online community to affix their digital
signatures on petition.
