Last September, I was challenged by Cheryl Sanders, CSC Director, to create Customer Supply Chain University. I was given nothing more than a concept—no specific direction and no timeline. Having reviewed the Universities and Colleges, I settled on the Supply Chain Course library as the most promising model. I’ve worked with Ashely Bew, Sr. Manager of Supply Chain Capability in New York, to refine my thinking and to leverage her resources.
Process:
Developed concept for the development tool and worked with HR partners to align the concept with the corporate career development model.
Meetings with panels of individuals in the roles, the purpose of which is to determine the specific skills needed to achieve excellent execution of the role.
I sorted all of the observations from the panel interviews into skill sets, which were then reviewed with managers and CSC Director to achieve alignment. Output was a document defining critical skills for each role at each level from L4-L8.
I then assembled a curriculum of My Learning materials to address all of the skills and gaps identified in the critical skills document.
All of the content is now collected on the CSC Learning and Development portlet on the QTG Customer Supply Chain Homepage.
Three outputs from the project:
Documentation of the critical skills needed to perform each role in CSC
A curriculum to develop capability in those skills. I’ve identified the top four recommended courses for each role, based on what team members agreed were the most challenging skills to master in role. There is an additional set of recommended courses across each level
A dedicated resource on the CSC Portal page to provide to all associates and managers quick and easy access to the curriculum.
