This was my first sermon I preached at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Frankfort (Indiana). Jesus asks His disciples who the people are saying He is and who they say He is, and the Apostle Peter says He is God's Son.
2. MATTHEW 16:13-14
13: Now when Jesus came into the
district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked
his disciples, “Who do people say that
the Son of Man is?”
14: And they said, “Some say John
the Baptist, others say Elijah, and
others Jeremiah or one of the
prophets.”
3. MATTHEW 16:15-17
15: He said to them, “But who do you
say that I am?”
16: Simon Peter replied, “You are the
Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17: And Jesus answered him, “Blessed
are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and
blood has not revealed this to you, but
my Father who is in heaven.
4. MATTHEW 16:18-20
18: And I tell you, you are Peter, and on
this rock I will build my church, and the gates
of hell shall not prevail against it.
19: I will give you the keys of the kingdom of
heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall
be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose
on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
20: Then he strictly charged the disciples to
tell no one that he was the Christ.
5. APPLICATION
1. Confess boldly through word and
deed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son
of the Living God.
2. Remember that nothing can destroy
the church that Jesus Christ has built
and feeds.
3. Ask for wisdom as to when you are
to tell others about Jesus.
6. INVITATION
Admit your need (I am a sinner).
Romans 3:10-12.
Turn away from your sins (Repent). Acts 3:19.
Believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God,
died on the cross for your sins and rose from
the dead. 1 Peter 2:24 and Romans 10:9.
Through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come
in and control your life through the Holy Spirit
(Receive Him as Lord and Savior)...
John 14:26.
