Skills
Research
 Investigated engraftment of alveolar epithelial progenitor cells in the lung and accelerated recovery in bleomycin-
induced injured lungs. Isolated cells under stringent time constraints, delivered new delivery system of stem cells
through nasal passages and measured lung improvement.
 Studied metastasis of ovarian cancer.
 Studied DNA repair protein interactions with DNA and other proteins.
 Performed molecular biology and biochemical experiments, resulting in the over-expression of proteins and
characterization of the products.
 Studied binding specificity in Max/Myc complexes determined by applications of molecular biology and photochemical
crosslinking. Used alternative gel systems, such as the tricine gels, to visualize small proteins and domains. First to use
tricine gel to crosslinked products.
 Studied the role of Cytochrome oxidase subunits in the formation of plaques in the brain in relation to Alzheimer’s
Disease.
 Isolated Cytochrome oxidase subunit genes from a murine brain cDNA library, subcloned into plasmid vectors, and
looked for sequence homology with known sequences from other organs studied.
 Studied proteins of herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1). Used molecular and genetic techniques to map signals,
transactivation domains, and interaction domains in proteins. One of 30 researchers working closely in two labs. First to
show nuclear localization signals and activation domains of other herpes virus proteins.
 Performed research to identify the sequences in the seminal vesicle SVS IV promoter, which confer hormonal
responsiveness using recombinant DNA technology and genetic techniques.
 Demonstrated ability to collaborate with principal investigators, peers, technicians and grad students and work
independently in labs of various sizes.
Leadership
 Led efforts to develop challenging secondary school course curriculum. Developed Biology curriculum that improved
state test scores incrementally over five consecutive years.
 Named Hamilton County Recycling Educator of the Year for establishing and maintaining recycling program. Worked
closely with students, school administration and staff, local organizations and recycling companies.
 Successfully wrote and obtained grants from Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, Cincinnati Observatory, Hamilton County
Recycling and Solid Waste District and Mayerson Foundation.
 Created and implemented educational and community garden from vacant lot, leading and coordinating efforts with
students, members of the community and local organizations (Price Hill Will, Civic Garden Center, Imago and Keep
