Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 461, the whole nation is celebrating the Annual National Crime Prevention Week on September 1 - 7. In this regard, here is a presentation on Criminal Justice System of the Philippines for everybody's information.
5. 1. Law Enforcement
(PNP, NBI, NAPOLCOM, etc.)
a. To enforce laws related to the
maintenance of peace and order;
b. Protect life, individual rights and
properties;
6. c. Prevent the commission of crimes; and
d. Investigate, apprehend and assist the
prosecutors/fiscals in the prosecution of
cases filed against people who violate
the rules of society.
8. 3. COURT
(Supreme Court, Court of Appelas, Regional
Trial Courts, Municipal Trial Court)
Courts determine the innocence or guilt of
the accused.
9. 4. CORRECTION
(Bureau of Correction, Provincial
Jails and Municipal Jails)
a. Maintain institutions such as prisons,
jails, etc.
b. Protect law abiding citizens by keeping
sentenced offenders away from the
society;
10. c. Reform/rehabilitate offenders to prepare
them to be assimilated into society and to
lead a normal life after release; and
d. Deter the commission of crimes.
Experience in prison and fear of denial of
liberty will influence potential offenders to
be law-abiding citizen.
11. 5. COMMUNITY
(Family, Church, Schools, civic
Organizations, Students, Youth,
the citizen in general)
The willingness of the community to become
involved in crime prevention and control efforts,
as well as the extent and effectiveness of their
knowledge and understanding of the importance
or role in the maintenance of peace and order of
their community.
12. CONCLUSION
The success or failure of efforts against
criminality depends on the will of the society and
the competence of the pillars of the criminal
justice system . Each one has an active role to
play. Passivity and indolence, manifested by
buck-passing and over dependence on other
pillars to expand the peace and order
environment, are advantageous to the criminals
and dangerous to the society-at-large. Therefore,
CRIME PREVENTION IS EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS.
