SEVENSTEP
DESIGN
PROCESS
Introduction
Website design is multi faceted and requires a unique
approach, taking into consideration not only graphic
design, but also user experience, navigability, and
accessibility. These elements combined go into making
the perfect website design.
The following guide outlines how Verto approach website
design and how we will arrive at the perfect solution for
your business.
1Brief
At Verto we pride ourselves on listening carefully to our clients needs in
order to arrive at the perfect design.
To do this effectively, we will first request a design and project brief before
undertaking the steps outlined in this document.
Verto will also access and review your existing brand and associated
media in order to fully understand what is required in regards to visual
standards and messaging.
2Research
Verto will undertake a scheme of research in order to understand
the requirement of both you, the client, and your target users.
We recommend talking to your existing clients reporting on their
requirements and observations. Verto will also research your key
competitors, looking at their website offerings but also their overall
brand appeal and supporting literature (where available).
This process will allow Verto to build up a comprehensive picture of
how we can provide a website that is functional and delivers all of the
features that users require, and at the same time give you a unique
offering within your marketplace.
3Review
Following the initial briefing and research phases it is important that
all information is gathered, collated, cleansed and reviewed in order
to understand and focus on a set of targets for the structure and
visualisation phases of the project.
Verto will create a review document that summarises the research
findings, we will then look to review this in conjunction with you, the
customer. This process will allow Verto to set a style guide for the
design process and it will also serve as a resource document for the
collation of the website content.
4Structure
Following the information gathering stages Verto will look to create a
comprehensive set of structure documents for the new website.
Verto will initially work with you to create a comprehensive site
navigation plan. Using information collated during the research phase of
the project, Verto will map out a visual flow diagram covering all primary
pages, sub pages and cross links as required.
Once the navigation plan has been reviewed, amended and approved,
Verto will then ‘Wireframe’ the basic page structures as required.
5Visualise
After the structuring process is complete and there is consensus on
the correct architecture, navigation and message hierarchy, Verto will
embark on the visualisation and design process.
During this process we will focus on creating a site design that truly
emphasises your brand in terms of the design elements being used,
such as fonts, colours, imagery and graphic devices. We also focus
on key messaging, tone of voice, call-to-action and user touch points
across the site to make sure they are effective and on-brand.
6Refine
The refinement stage gives both Verto and you, the customer, the
opportunity to review, refine and detail the final website design.
Verto will review all design templates to make sure that branding is
consistent and that all pages conform to the agreed style guide.
This is also an important phase for you, the customer, as it give the final
opportunity to make significant amends before the design is ‘rubber
stamped’ and sent for coding.
7Deliver
At the delivery phase the Verto design team will conduct a full and
thorough hand over to the web development team.
This phase includes a comprehensive write up of ‘coding notes’ that detail
all user specific functionality agreed during the coding phase e.g. how
slider areas will behave, where forms will report to, what movement is
required within home the homepage environment etc.
At the deliver phase Verto will request full and final written sign off of
the website design from you, the customer, this will give the coding
team a set of design templates and style guides with which to begin
development and in due course deliver a finished product fit for
purpose and meeting all agreed targets.
