3. What is Kickstart
Kickstart is a installation method is used primarily (but not exclusively) by the Red
Hat Enterprise Linux operating system to automatically perform unattended
operating system installation and configuration.
Comparirison :Kickstart in Red Hat Linux is similar to jumpstart for Oracle Solaris
or to an unattendent installation for Microsoft Windows
4. Why we use Kickstart
A system administrator can create a single file containing the answers to all the
questions typically asked during an installation
Save time installing
Same configuration many computers
Quick installation system
Un attendant installation system
Using Kickstart not only saves time, but it brings a certain amount of consistency
into play, assuring that every machine created with the same Kickstart file will
meet the same initial specification.
5. Kickstart installer
Kickstart installations can only be performed using a local CD-ROM
A local hard drive
NFS installation methods.
FTP and HTTP installations cannot be automated using kickstart mode.
(Starting with RedHat 7.0 and higher, FTP and HTTP are now supported)
6. Create kickstart file
You will install system-config-kickstart
Go to Application –system tools –click kickstart
To use kickstart mode, you must first create a kickstart file (ks.cfg), and make it
available to the Red Hat Linux installation program.
Copy this file (ks.cfg ) and paste /var/www/html
8. Kickstart configuration (Example; use cd-
rom)
Point to the installer to the kickstart file
