EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Once we were dependent on imported garment products. But since past two decades, we can
witness many growing local garment industries in our country as the demand for garment
products is increasing. Among all the garment factories, Concorde garments is one of the
successful company. So a factory visit initiative was taken to know their process of making t-
shirt as well as analysing the whole visit. From the very starting till ending it was like a session
of acquiring knowledge that can be very much helpful for anyone. The t-shirt making process
was really very good but still a slight re-designed process has been given. It might be more
helpful for Concorde garments to t-shirts in a more effective and efficient way.

INDUSTRY ANALYSIS
The tremendous success of readymade garment exports from Bangladesh over the last two
decades has surpassed the most optimistic expectations. The overall impact of the readymade
garment exports is certainly one of the most significant social and economic developments in
contemporary Bangladesh. Today the apparel export sector is a multi-billion-dollar
manufacturing and export industry in the country. With over one and a half million women
workers employed in semi-skilled and skilled jobs producing clothing for exports, the
development of the apparel export industry has had far-reaching implications for the society and
economy of Bangladesh. For Bangladesh, the readymade garment export industry has been the
proverbial goose that lays the golden eggs for over fifteen years now. The sector now dominates
the modern economy in export earnings, secondary impact and employment generated. Although
in gross terms the sector’s contributions to the country’s export earnings is around 74 percent, in
net terms the share would be much less partially because the backward linkages in textile have
been slow to develop. RMG business started in the late 70s as a negligible non-traditional sector
with a narrow export base and by the year 1983 it emerged as a promising export earning sector;
presently it contributes around 75 percent of the total export earnings. Over the past one and half
decade, RMG export earnings have increased by more than 8 times with an exceptional growth
rate of 16.5 percent per annum. In terms of GDP, RMG’s contribution is highly remarkable. One
of the key advantages of the RMG industry is its cheap labor force, which provides a competitive
edge over its competitors. The sector has created jobs for about two million people of which 70
percent are women who mostly come from rural areas. The sector opened up employment
opportunities for many more individuals through direct and indirect economic activities, which
eventually helps the country’s social development, woman empowerment and poverty
alleviation. Concorde garments is a well reputed Garments Exporters in Bangladesh.More than
750 employees participate here in the manufacturing activities. It was founded in 1993.

T-SHIRT MAKING PROCESS MAP
7
Starting point
Making T-shirts is largely an automated process. Specially designed machines integrate cutting,
assembling, and stitching for the most efficient operations. The most commonly used seams for
T-shirts are narrow, superimposed seams, which are usually made by placing one piece of fabric
onto another and lining up the seam edges. These seams are frequently stitched with an stitch,
which requires one needle thread from above and two looped threads from below.
Designing according to style
The T-shirt style is designed and the dimensions are transferred to according to customer
patterns. Adjustments are made for size differences and stylistic preferences.
Raw Materials
The majority of T-shirts are made of 100% cotton, polyester, or a cotton/polyester blend.
Environmentally conscious manufacturers may use organically grown cotton and natural dyes.
Stretchable T-shirts are made of knit fabrics, especially rib knits, and interlock rib knits, which
consist of two ribbed fabrics that are joined together.
Cutting
The T-shirt sections are cut to the dimensions of the patterns. If there is front and back sections
then it is processed further to attach the front and back end. If it is tube body then the sleeves are
attached for further processing.
Assembling the front and back
The separate pieces for the front and back sections must be stitched together at the sides. They
are joined at the seam lines to form a simple, narrow, superimposed seam and stitched together
using an over the edge stitch.
Assembling the sleeves
The sleeves are generally finished before they are fitted into the garment, since it is easier to
them the fabric while it is flat. An automated system moves the sleeves to the sewing head by
conveyor. If the T-shirt body is tubular, the sleeve material is first sewn together, and then set
into the garment.
Stitching the edge
The garment is commonly sewn with an over edge stitch, resulting in a flexible hem.
8
Adding pockets
Pockets may be sewn onto T-shirts intended for casual wear. Pockets quality may depend on the
users and the size may depend on how the design will go with it.
Stitching the shoulder seams
Generally, shoulder seams require a simple superimposed seam. Higher quality seams may be
more of a plastic or tubular material.
Attaching the neckband
For crew neck shirts, the neck edge should be slightly shorter in circumference than the outer
edge where it is attached to the garment. Tubular neckbands are applied manually. The bands are
folded, wrong sides together, stretched slightly, and aligned with the neckline. V-necks require
the extra step of either lapping or mitering the neckband.
Finishing the neckline
Necklines with superimposed seams may be taped, so that the shirt is stronger and more
comfortable.
Set label
One or more labels are usually attached at the back of the neckline. Labels provide information
about the manufacturer, size, fabric content, and washing instructions.
Others
The t shirt making process again goes through several steps where there is the step of ironing.
Evaluation of the t shirt in the end and also the quality of the t shirt and the long term effect of it.
How the t shirt will function for the consumers and how the t shirt will long in the future.
Finishing operations
In the end the t shirt is packaged and made ready for delivery. This is the whole process of the
whole t shirt making process.

RECOMMENDATION
In the whole t-shirt making process we have not analyzed how many t-shirt must actually be
made and because of that some t-shirt may not be processed of some technical flaws and because
of that cost of production remains the same but the profit amount decreases for this organization.
So we decided to come up with a new process in the decision making that is forecasting the
company capabilities of how many t-shirt must actually be analyzed for production and
processed further to the designing step. Suppose a batch order came for t-shirt and the company
started its production process but suddenly a change of plan occurred the batch of order suddenly
stopped. Then the amount of production already happened is already incurred cost and that cost
goes completely to waste. So if proper analysis is done that if there will be any kind of problems
towards the end of the production process and if the whole production process will run smoothly
till the end of the production then there will be an assurance for the whole batch of production.
All in all the whole t-shirt making process will be efficient and as well as effective for the
organization.

CONCLUSION
Jupiter garment is becoming very well recognized in our country and if they continue with their
development process simultaneously then no one can stop them from becoming a world class
garment industry. Now comes to our achievements and that is basically exploring something
new going beyond our limited boundary. This visit was not only a thrill for us but also we
acquired so much knowledge from it. We were also astonished by the hospitality of Jupiter
garment authority. We got answers for each and every questions with explanations and sample
t-shirts were given to us and we were also told if we could help them to develop some new
process to help them develop their services in the near future.

The most commonly used seams for T-shirts are narrow, superimposed seams, which are usually made by placing one piece of fabric onto another and lining up the seam edges. These seams are frequently stitched with an stitch, which requires one needle thread from above and two looped threads from below. Designing according to style The T-shirt style is designed and the dimensions are transferred to according to customer patterns. Adjustments are made for size differences and stylistic preferences. Raw Materials The majority of T-shirts are made of 100% cotton, polyester, or a cotton/polyester blend. Environmentally conscious manufacturers may use organically grown cotton and natural dyes. Stretchable T-shirts are made of knit fabrics, especially rib knits, and interlock rib knits, which consist of two ribbed fabrics that are joined together. Cutting The T-shirt sections are cut to the dimensions of the patterns. If there is front and back sections then it is processed further to attach the front and back end. If it is tube body then the sleeves are attached for further processing. Assembling the front and back The separate pieces for the front and back sections must be stitched together at the sides. They are joined at the seam lines to form a simple, narrow, superimposed seam and stitched together using an over the edge stitch. Assembling the sleeves The sleeves are generally finished before they are fitted into the garment, since it is easier to them the fabric while it is flat. An automated system moves the sleeves to the sewing head by conveyor. If the T-shirt body is tubular, the sleeve material is first sewn together, and then set into the garment. Stitching the edge The garment is commonly sewn with an over edge stitch, resulting in a flexible hem.
  • 8. 8 Adding pockets Pockets may be sewn onto T-shirts intended for casual wear. Pockets quality may depend on the users and the size may depend on how the design will go with it. Stitching the shoulder seams Generally, shoulder seams require a simple superimposed seam. Higher quality seams may be more of a plastic or tubular material. Attaching the neckband For crew neck shirts, the neck edge should be slightly shorter in circumference than the outer edge where it is attached to the garment. Tubular neckbands are applied manually. The bands are folded, wrong sides together, stretched slightly, and aligned with the neckline. V-necks require the extra step of either lapping or mitering the neckband. Finishing the neckline Necklines with superimposed seams may be taped, so that the shirt is stronger and more comfortable. Set label One or more labels are usually attached at the back of the neckline. Labels provide information about the manufacturer, size, fabric content, and washing instructions. Others The t shirt making process again goes through several steps where there is the step of ironing. Evaluation of the t shirt in the end and also the quality of the t shirt and the long term effect of it. How the t shirt will function for the consumers and how the t shirt will long in the future. Finishing operations In the end the t shirt is packaged and made ready for delivery. This is the whole process of the whole t shirt making process.

  • 10. 10 RECOMMENDATION In the whole t-shirt making process we have not analyzed how many t-shirt must actually be made and because of that some t-shirt may not be processed of some technical flaws and because of that cost of production remains the same but the profit amount decreases for this organization. So we decided to come up with a new process in the decision making that is forecasting the company capabilities of how many t-shirt must actually be analyzed for production and processed further to the designing step. Suppose a batch order came for t-shirt and the company started its production process but suddenly a change of plan occurred the batch of order suddenly stopped. Then the amount of production already happened is already incurred cost and that cost goes completely to waste. So if proper analysis is done that if there will be any kind of problems towards the end of the production process and if the whole production process will run smoothly till the end of the production then there will be an assurance for the whole batch of production. All in all the whole t-shirt making process will be efficient and as well as effective for the organization.
  • 11. 11 CONCLUSION Jupiter garment is becoming very well recognized in our country and if they continue with their development process simultaneously then no one can stop them from becoming a world class garment industry. Now comes to our achievements and that is basically exploring something new going beyond our limited boundary. This visit was not only a thrill for us but also we acquired so much knowledge from it. We were also astonished by the hospitality of Jupiter garment authority. We got answers for each and every questions with explanations and sample t-shirts were given to us and we were also told if we could help them to develop some new process to help them develop their services in the near future.
