2. 1 - Institution
• Titles offer logos of the institution which are involved in the production
and finance of the film.
• This will then advertise the company, as well as establish expectations of
the audience.
• For example if you see titles with Warner Bros. this will inform the viewer
that the film, as well as the OTS has a big production process.
3. 2 – Billing Order
• The prescence of star actors is the reason why
many people will go to see the movie.
• Movie stars transcend their producers and
directors.
• Their names are listed before the movies title,
which is the equivalent to having their name
above the title.
• This is where the term “Billing” comes from.
4. 3
• A title sequence is a how a cinematic
production presents its title and main
production/cast members, making it from
abstract but visuals and sound. This can show
some elements of the film and will focus on
making the characterisation, setting, genre
and the ideology of the film clear to the
audience as well as making it intriguing so that
it appeals to the viewer and makes them want
to watch the rest of the film.
5. 4
• The opening sequence is a short sequence
around 2-3minutes long aiming to capture the
interests of its audience and draw them into the
film as a whole.
• The main characters are usually in the opening
sequence allowing the audience to gain
knowledge on their character and follow their
actions throughout the opening sequence in
order to determine their actions throughout the
film.
6. 5
• Another purpose of an OTS would be to let
the viewer know what sort of type, the film
will be.
• It will establish the genre, Title of the film,
where it is set and who is in it.
