Megan Driscoll, B.S
GCEP 585: Developing A
Professional Online Identity
Spring 2013
online identities, personal branding, social media
“Construct, manage and
engage your professional
identity”
I found especially useful to
store and share resumes
online
www.linkedin/in/megan520
LinkedIn
Keep personal information
limited and locked
Create secure passcodes
for every site and regulate
who can view your
information
It only takes one hacker to
ruin a life
Online Privacy
Follow your interests
and stay connected
Although I was
reluctant to join at first,
it is a great
professional tool to
share information
@mdriscoll520
Twitter #GCEP585
“Keep up with friends”…
not clients.
Be aware of what is
posted and who views it
I like to keep this one
personal. I do not
foresee a professional
Facebook account
Professional Facebook Pages
Hang out with those in
your circles and stay
social
Great way to stream
video messaging with
friends
I found this a useful way
to connect with peers
Google Plus (G+)
“Personal publishing
platforms”
Share your thoughts,
reviews, experiences etc. at
length with people from all
over the globe
Wary of what this implies
for physical social
interaction
Blogs: Blogger, WordPress, Tumblr
Thank you Julie Hanks for
your Q/A with the GCEP585
class!
I learn something new with
every Tweet posted by the
MH professionals I follow
on Twitter!
It’s amazing how much
information is out there
Learning from Mental health Professionals &
organizations
Wonder how MH
professionals manage their
countless profiles? This is
how…
Social media management
tools
Hootsuite, Tweetdeck,
Threadsy and more!
I’m overwhelmed!
Managing your online identity
Portfolios & profiles
http://about.me/megan.driscoll
Gather and organize
information into
categories or interests
I prefer to use Pinterest
to curate my crafting,
recipes and professional
interests
Curation Tools: scoop.it/pinterest
social media ethics for therapists
http://pinterest.com/mdriscoll520/ethics-social-media-therapists/
Create professional
websites
Simple or complex
Do so independently or hire
a professional
Construct, fortify and
manage an online
presence to be easily
available and stay
marketable
Websites & domain names
I bookmarked each “how to” site for future reference- great
material!
The use of social media
for social change
Use your unique voice to
inspire, promote, or be a
catalyst for reform
My thoughts go out to
Boston and the use of
technology that allowed
authorities to apprehend
the suspects so quickly
We can do great things
Making A Difference
Goals & Strategies
Share presentations
 Privately or publicly
Create slide shows for a variety of
purposes: professional, academic,
leisure etc.
Allows users to browse presentations
by searching for key words
In my current graduate student
status I see slideshare as an
excellent tool for sharing academic
presentations
slideshare
Although at times I felt
overwhelmed, or severely
lagging in my technological
knowledge and experience, I
believe social media (if used
appropriately) allows us to do
extraordinary things. As
professionals we can create
solid online presences that
allow us to be easily sought out,
and offer aesthetic displays to
potential clients. I give social
media a big “thumbs up”!
