Topic;
Design a Lesson Plan based on the teaching of
Preposition. You must pay attention to the
formation of clear and precise learning
outcomes.Begin your lesson with the general
discussion to assess students’understanding
of correct use of Prepositions.Give your input
with examples to practice them;you can
incorporate visual aids like pictures at this
stage,if you feel necessary.
Coun……..
At the production stage, you may assign them a
task to measure their understanding as well
as to assess the effectiveness of your
lesson. In your report of the lesson plan clealy
mention how far you had been able to
achieve your learning objectives and also
discuss that how their understanding
improved as a direct result of the practice
which they did in the class.
Introduction
In every language we find groups words
that share grammatical characteristics.
These group were called parts of
speech.Though many writers on
language refer to the eight parts of
speech.Weaver (1996:254).They are
eight in numbers but some people say
they are nine,in English Language.
Noun
Pronoun
Verb
Adverb
Adjective
Conjunction
Interjection
Preposition
They are very important for learning
second,English Language.Especially,in
learning Grammar, first step is goes towards
the learning of Parts Of Speech. No
doubt,English is a compulsory subject in
Pakistan, and many of people are passionate
for learning and speaking English. But it is
observed that even after spending a lot of
time in learning majority of school and
colleges are unable to write grammaticaly
correct English.
Objectives
 Make an effective lesson plan for learning
preposition.
 To highlight the effective way of learning the
students while using Audio-Visual Aids.
 Measurement and Judgment of an effective
lesson plan
 Achivement of learning objectives and the
understanding of the students
Literature Review
There are eight parts of speech and some
people say they are nine in
numbers,Noun,Pronoun,Adjective,
Adverb,Verb and Preposition.They are
very important for learning second
language especially in learning
Grammar first step is goes towards the
learning of parts of speech.
No doubt,English is a compulsory subject

Lesson Planning
Planning is the process of deciding in detail how
to do something. It is necessary in everything
and teaching is no exception in it.Lesson
planning is important because it is a detailed
procedure for teaching. So a teacher should
plan his teaching carefully. He should be clear
about what will take place in classroom
before he actually enter in it.
According to John Greenwood before
planning a lesson,a teacher must
consider five points:
Planning for whom?
Planning for what?
Planning for when?
Planning…….why?
Planning…….how?
Lesson planning is very significant in the
process of teaching.
According to Colin Dawson a good lesson plan
should have five important features:
 What to teach?
 How to teach?
 Students participation,
 Students interest
 Flexibility
According to Herbart’s five steps of lesson
planning are more than 150 years old they
are very popular with our teachers. They try to
present every lesson in this format. The format
is very comprehensive and effective.
 P.Preparation
 P.Presentation
 P.Practice
 Production
Audio-Visual Aids
To make the lesson interesting and
effective, teachers use various devices in the
classroom.These devices are called teaching
Aids.Audio:means something relating to the
ear.Visual means something relating to the
eye.The most common audio-visual aids are
blackboard,wall charts,pictures,flash
cards,radio,tape recorder,Tv and overhead
projector.
It is well known fact that audio visual
materials are a great help in stimulating
and facilating.According to Wright
1976:1 many media and many styles of
visual presentation are useful to the
language learner. That is to say.all audio
visual materials have positive
contributions to language learning as
long as they are used at the right time.
In language learning and teaching
process learner use his eye as well as
his ears, but his eyes are basic in
learning,River, 1981:399 claims that it
clearly contributes to the understanding
of another culture by providing vicarious
contact with speakers of the
language,through both audio and visual
aids.
One of the most appreciated materials applied
to language learning and teaching is of
course video.Arecent large scale survey by
Canning-Wilson (2000) reveals that the
students like learning language through the
use of video, which is often used to mean
quite different things in language teaching,For
Example,,,Tv and Projector.Being a rich and
valuable resourse, video is liked by all
students.
Lesson Plan
Students’ Learning Outcome:
Understand the preposition and
identify the different kinds of it.
Correct use of preposition
according to different manners,for
example;position,time and
movement.

Introduction
How many students know about different
parts of speech. And which student will
tell the names of different parts of
speech?
Now I annonce the topic,
Todayz we will learn about Preposition.
Development
I wrote the definition of preposition on
the board. These are three kinds of
preposition according to time,position
and movement.
The cat is sitting on the table.(On is a
preposition of place which tells the
position of cat).
I bought it in march. (In is the
preposition of time that is march).
My friend is coming from Lahore.(From
is the preposition of movement).
ON:
Days of the week.
o IN:
Months/seasons/time of
day,year
At:
For night,for weekend,a
certainpoint of time.
On Monday
In august,in winter,in the
morning,in 2009.
At night,at the weekend,at
7’o clock.
Activity#1
I gave different sentences to the students and
ask,mark the preposition.
 I live in Pakistan.
 Somebody is at the door.
 The glass is on the table.
 The book is behind the bag.
 The cat is under the table.
Activity#2
I have made the pairs of students and ask make
the sentences contains prepositions.And they
make different sentences.
 He is fond of tea.
 He is ashamed of his behaviour.
 He was angry with me.
 She was absent from the class.
 Let us hope for the best.
Activity#3
I showed the different pictures to the
class and than ask them to make
sentences.And use preposition in all
these sentences,while looking the
pictures.
Sum.up
I read the definition of preposition and
different kinds of preposition,according
to time,movement and position.
Assessment
Now,I ask who will tell me about
preposition?And who will tell different
kinds of preposition?
Come here and write down on the boards.
Homework
Write down the definitions of
preposition,and make different
sentences in which you will use
preposition.
Conclusion
I have applied my lesson plan in different
schools in different
classes,8th
,9th
,10th
.And I find positive
result on behalf of the
students.Because, first of all I set my
objectives what I want from
students.For doing anything a person
should sets the goals and
objectives,what he wants.
And in teaching field goals should be
SMART
specific,measurable,achievable,relevant
and time bounded.(Grant,Anthony M,
(september 2012),And integrated model
of goal focused coaching:an evidence
based framework for teaching and
practice.
After that I select the “Eclectic Approach” in my
teaching, because in the class all the students
are not intelligent, some are sharp and some
are very dull and average are also there. And
blending of different methods we can slove
the problems of all the student in the
class.”The Eclectic Approach” was proposed
as a reaction to the profession of teaching
methods in 1970’s & 1980’s.
“Memorandum on the Teaching Of Modern
Languages”published in 1929,by
recommended the Eclectic compromise
method as a solution to the language
teaching method debate.
Audio-Visual Aids:
I also used audio visual aids in the class for
making my lesson effective and easily
understandable for students.
Because related Audio Visual Aids arouse the
interest of the students,and easily
understandable for them.I also used white
boards, charts and pictures in audio visual
aids. They are easily available in every
classroom.And teacher himself can make
beautiful and neat charts for students. The
audio visual aids arouse the interest of the
students and every student take part in the
lesson.
In presentation stage,I made the groups and
later pairs of the students.Because of this
every student was active. And they make their
own sentences through this, they can improve
their thinking and writing capabilities.When
they made their sentences,I call student one
by one, come in front of the class and read the
sentences,so,their confidence also increased.
In assessment stage, when I asked everyone
give me answer, and only few mistakes they
committ, but most of was correct. That shows
the effectivnes of my lesson plan. And in the
end,of the lecture I find out that all of my
objectives that I have set are fulfilled. All of the
students now, know about parts of speech, and
especially preposition,and use of it.
Because their all work are done in the
class during the lecture,so they have no
burden.Everyone enjoy the lesson and
learn it.In the end.it can be said lesson
planning is necessary for teachers and
also help better understanding for both
teachers and students.

  • 8. Coun…….. At the production stage, you may assign them a task to measure their understanding as well as to assess the effectiveness of your lesson. In your report of the lesson plan clealy mention how far you had been able to achieve your learning objectives and also discuss that how their understanding improved as a direct result of the practice which they did in the class.
  • 9. Introduction In every language we find groups words that share grammatical characteristics. These group were called parts of speech.Though many writers on language refer to the eight parts of speech.Weaver (1996:254).They are eight in numbers but some people say they are nine,in English Language.
  • 11. They are very important for learning second,English Language.Especially,in learning Grammar, first step is goes towards the learning of Parts Of Speech. No doubt,English is a compulsory subject in Pakistan, and many of people are passionate for learning and speaking English. But it is observed that even after spending a lot of time in learning majority of school and colleges are unable to write grammaticaly correct English.
  • 12. Objectives  Make an effective lesson plan for learning preposition.  To highlight the effective way of learning the students while using Audio-Visual Aids.  Measurement and Judgment of an effective lesson plan  Achivement of learning objectives and the understanding of the students

  • 15. Lesson Planning Planning is the process of deciding in detail how to do something. It is necessary in everything and teaching is no exception in it.Lesson planning is important because it is a detailed procedure for teaching. So a teacher should plan his teaching carefully. He should be clear about what will take place in classroom before he actually enter in it.
  • 16. According to John Greenwood before planning a lesson,a teacher must consider five points: Planning for whom? Planning for what? Planning for when? Planning…….why? Planning…….how?
  • 17. Lesson planning is very significant in the process of teaching. According to Colin Dawson a good lesson plan should have five important features:  What to teach?  How to teach?  Students participation,  Students interest  Flexibility
  • 18. According to Herbart’s five steps of lesson planning are more than 150 years old they are very popular with our teachers. They try to present every lesson in this format. The format is very comprehensive and effective.  P.Preparation  P.Presentation  P.Practice  Production
  • 19. Audio-Visual Aids To make the lesson interesting and effective, teachers use various devices in the classroom. These devices are called teaching Aids.Audio:means something relating to the ear.Visual means something relating to the eye.The most common audio-visual aids are blackboard, wall charts, pictures, flash cards, radio, tape recorder,Tv and overhead projector.
  • 20. It is well known fact that audio visual materials are a great help in stimulating and facilating.According to Wright 1976:1 many media and many styles of visual presentation are useful to the language learner. That is to say.all audio visual materials have positive contributions to language learning as long as they are used at the right time.
  • 21. In language learning and teaching process learner use his eye as well as his ears, but his eyes are basic in learning,River, 1981:399 claims that it clearly contributes to the understanding of another culture by providing vicarious contact with speakers of the language, through both audio and visual aids.
  • 22. One of the most appreciated materials applied to language learning and teaching is of course video.Arecent large scale survey by Canning-Wilson (2000) reveals that the students like learning language through the use of video, which is often used to mean quite different things in language teaching,For Example,,,Tv and Projector.Being a rich and valuable resourse, video is liked by all students.
  • 23. Lesson Plan Students’ Learning Outcome: Understand the preposition and identify the different kinds of it. Correct use of preposition according to different manners, for example;position, time and movement.
  • 24. Class=9th A ,9th B, 10th Topic=Preposition Time=30 minutes Strength=25,30,29 Method=“Eclectic Approach”
  • 26. Introduction How many students know about different parts of speech. And which student will tell the names of different parts of speech? Now I annonce the topic, Todayz we will learn about Preposition.
  • 27. Development I wrote the definition of preposition on the board. These are three kinds of preposition according to time, position and movement. The cat is sitting on the table.(On is a preposition of place which tells the position of cat).
  • 28. I bought it in march. (In is the preposition of time that is march). My friend is coming from Lahore.(From is the preposition of movement).
  • 29. ON: Days of the week. o IN: Months/seasons/time of day,year At: For night,for weekend,a certainpoint of time. On Monday In august,in winter,in the morning,in 2009. At night,at the weekend,at 7’o clock.
  • 30. Activity#1 I gave different sentences to the students and ask, mark the preposition.  I live in Pakistan.  Somebody is at the door.  The glass is on the table.  The book is behind the bag.  The cat is under the table.
  • 31. Activity#2 I have made the pairs of students and ask make the sentences contains prepositions. And they make different sentences.  He is fond of tea.  He is ashamed of his behaviour.  He was angry with me.  She was absent from the class.  Let us hope for the best.
  • 32. Activity#3 I showed the different pictures to the class and than ask them to make sentences. And use preposition in all these sentences, while looking the pictures.
  • 33.
  • 34.
  • 35.
  • 36.
  • 37.
  • 38.
  • 39. Sum.up I read the definition of preposition and different kinds of preposition, according to time, movement and position.
  • 40. Assessment Now,I ask who will tell me about preposition? And who will tell different kinds of preposition? Come here and write down on the boards.
  • 41. Homework Write down the definitions of preposition, and make different sentences in which you will use preposition.
  • 42. Conclusion I have applied my lesson plan in different schools in different classes,8th ,9th ,10th .And I find positive result on behalf of the students.Because, first of all I set my objectives what I want from students. For doing anything a person should sets the goals and objectives, what he wants.
  • 43. And in teaching field goals should be SMART specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bounded.(Grant,Anthony M, (september 2012),And integrated model of goal focused coaching:an evidence based framework for teaching and practice.
  • 44. After that I select the “Eclectic Approach” in my teaching, because in the class all the students are not intelligent, some are sharp and some are very dull and average are also there. And blending of different methods we can slove the problems of all the student in the class.”The Eclectic Approach” was proposed as a reaction to the profession of teaching methods in 1970’s & 1980’s.
  • 45. “Memorandum on the Teaching Of Modern Languages”published in 1929,by recommended the Eclectic compromise method as a solution to the language teaching method debate. Audio-Visual Aids: I also used audio visual aids in the class for making my lesson effective and easily understandable for students.
  • 46. Because related Audio Visual Aids arouse the interest of the students, and easily understandable for them.I also used white boards, charts and pictures in audio visual aids. They are easily available in every classroom. And teacher himself can make beautiful and neat charts for students. The audio visual aids arouse the interest of the students and every student take part in the lesson.
  • 47. In presentation stage,I made the groups and later pairs of the students.Because of this every student was active. And they make their own sentences through this, they can improve their thinking and writing capabilities. When they made their sentences,I call student one by one, come in front of the class and read the sentences,so,their confidence also increased.
  • 48. In assessment stage, when I asked everyone give me answer, and only few mistakes they committ, but most of was correct. That shows the effectivnes of my lesson plan. And in the end,of the lecture I find out that all of my objectives that I have set are fulfilled. All of the students now, know about parts of speech, and especially preposition, and use of it.
  • 49. Because their all work are done in the class during the lecture,so they have no burden.Everyone enjoy the lesson and learn it.In the end.it can be said lesson planning is necessary for teachers and also help better understanding for both teachers and students.
