What is a Dashboard?
A business dashboard is an information management tool that is used to track KPIs, metrics, and
other key data points relevant to a business, department, or specific process. Through the use of
data visualizations, dashboards simplify complex data sets to provide users with at a glance
awareness of current performance. A business intelligence dashboard is a data visualization tool
that displays the current status of metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for an

enterprise. Dashboards consolidate and arrange numbers, metrics and sometimes performance
scorecards on a single screen. They may be tailored for a specific role and display metrics
targeted for a single point of view or department. The essential features of a BI dashboard
product include a customizable interface and the ability to pull real-time data from multiple
sources. Oracle and Microsoft are among the vendor s of business intelligence dashboards. BI
dashboards can also be created through other business applications, such as Excel. Business
intelligence dashboards are sometimes referred to as enterprise dashboards.
The business intelligence dashboard is often confused with the performance scorecard. The main
difference between the two, traditionally, is that a business intelligence dashboard, like the
dashboard of a car, indicates the status at a specific point in time. A scorecard, on the other hand,
displays progress over time towards specific goals. Dashboard and scorecard designs are
increasingly converging. For example, some commercial dashboard products also include the
ability to track progress towards a goal. A product combining elements of both dashboards and
scorecards is sometimes referred to as a scoreboard (Rouse, 2015).
What Will a Dashboard Do for Company A
CompanyA is growing larger every year and some data and training needs are being looked at
closely due to the growth and major programs that they have taken on. The need for information
data processing and training are more important than ever before. CompanyA executives have
noticed that trend and have decided to implement a dashboard that can be used by management
and office personnel to not only track clientele data but also Field Representative data and
training as well. All aspects of CompanyA’s programs revolve around CompanyA and Energy
Consumption Reduction Training not only for the Clientele and businesses implementing the
programs but also for the customers and the Field Representatives in each program. Dashboards

Improve the decision making process in the organization, makes work easier and fast, it takes
little effort for one to use it, it will simplify reality, which means that they will make things clear
and easily understood by the people concerned. Some of the limitations may be, may be opposed
by some of the staffs because of various reasons, dashboards whether tactical, operational or
strategic focus on data rather than information needed, Critical Data Analyses may be missed,
extra training needed to understand the concept.
Company A Problem Statement
Our Organization has been slow in making decisions, Management has not been able to interact
easily with the other staffs and behave like bosses and not leaders when communicating with
them, due to increased stress brought on by confusing data statistics and lack of training before
field representatives or staff start working with the specified program. The concept of creating a
leader and not a boss that demands is important for us. We think that if we can make data
analysis and training easier to keep up with and analyze, the stress level for upper management
and field representatives will reduce creating a more habitable work environment increasing the
value of the training in and out of the office.
What We Will Do to Fix the Problem
Our staff will come in and set up three dashboards for various uses. The first Dashboard is the
most critical in the workplace, this would be the training dashboard. It will allow managers to
conduct best practice reviews and knowledge based questionnaires to ensure that field
representatives will have the most up to date training and understand the training in whole. This
dashboard will maintain information about the employee’s progress and even hold QA/QC
information. The next of the three dashboards will contain data from the clientele and what they

expect from the field representative. The concept of being able to meet all expectations in all
situations is something that the client will have to be more lenient on in the future to reduce
stress on the field representative and the upper management. The dashboard will show if the
field representative has accomplished or at least tried to accomplish a goal. If there is neither the
upper management will be able to track this and correct it if necessary. The next dashboard will
track all incoming data from the field representatives about the businesses that the training on
Energy Consumption Reduction is performed. This will allow the Program coordinator the
opportunity to review incoming information real time and be able to address issues in the field to
reduce mistakes and travel time. This real time dashboard will allow field representatives to turn
in call reports after a visit before leaving the store along with documenting pictures. We also see
this as a way to reduce the stress level on the program coordinator and the field representative in
the long run. The data can also be looked at later if need be, however the program coordinator
will have the opportunity to skim over the information before the rep leaves the premises and
give a thumbs up approval. This will reduce time consuming mistakes and stress as well.
We hope that we can start this project as soon as possible to ensure that CompanyA can start to
see the advantages of this new and improved system.
Time Frame and Cost
The initial time frame estimate will be six to eight weeks for completion of the dashboard
system, two weeks of initial training with a six month follow up. The initial cost of the
dashboards and cost of set up and initialization are as follows:
6. Company A DASHBOARD PROPOSAL 6
Description Cost Totals
Dashboard 1 25,000 25,000
Dashboard 2 25,000 50,000
Dashboard 3 25,000 75,000
Labor 30,000 105,000
Per Diem 8,960 113,960
Total Estimated Cost 113,960
These estimates are subject to change and will be reviewed if the project is agreed on by
Company A. The cost of the Dashboards is yearly at a rate of 75,000.00 a year for up to 1000
users. If the company increases in size the dashboard costs will increase as needed to
accommodate the users and data storage as needed. This proposal is open to suggestions and
concerns, all considerations will be heard and reviewed with upper management and executives
in a meeting after necessary information has been obtained. The Labor costs includes the 6
month follow up with the company and one year of support from the HPT Professional assigned
to the project. I thank you for your time and interest in this project and hope to start as soon as
possible to make your business run smoother and more efficient.
