CHURCH OF CHRIST
Christian and Money
Every Christian should determine how he/she spend his/her money. No matter how much
money we have in our pockets and bank accounts, we are just steward. When we fail to
consider that we are just steward, then we are drifting away from God – closer to
hell. As written in the Old “The earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof; the
world, and they that dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1) and quoted by Apostle Paul “For the
earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.” in his first letter to the Corithians
chapter 10 verse 26th.
So many of us (Christians) spend much of our money in recreation, games, vacations,
and other personal activities, but fail to support for the work of our Lord. When the
“…first day of the week...” (1 Cor. 16:1-2) comes even a single penny that “...he
purposes in his heart...” (2 Cor. 9:7) there is none. Spending much from Monday to
Saturday, how could we say that we truly “…seek first the kingdom of God and His
righteousness...” (Matt. 6:33), when in our giving, even a leftover for the Lord there
is none. The Jews gave their first fruit (see Ezek. 44:30; Nehemiah 10:35), yet we
(Christians) try to give the leftovers of our money. Are we justified?
Having money is not sin but to love money more than we love God. Apostle Paul said to
Timothy in his first letter to him, the 6th chapter verse ten “For the love of money
2. 2
is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the
faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” Though many were already in
“the faith” but because of “the love of money”, many have been departing.
We say that we are members of the church, the one promised in Matt. 16:18 fulfilled in
Acts 2. One of the works of the church is benevolence, now are we trying to eliminate
that one? We only follow the Evangelism and Edification because when a needy gospel
preacher or a certain brother asks for help, all we could say is “Sorry, our local
church can’t able”. Know ye not that when you support a gospel preacher; you have
shared in his work in the Lord?
Many local churches of Christ supports financially HUMAN INSTITUIONS such as schools,
hospitals and orphanages even there is no single approved example found in New
Testament that the early Christians who made up the church of Christ supported even
one human institution.
No fund to support a gospel preacher but there are lots of available fund to support
for human institutions. We are now doing the wrong one and saying sorry to the right
one. Could we think of an excuse for this matter? If you are member of the so called
local church of Christ, then doing this one (supporting human institutions, doing
recreation) I urge you to leave – you are just wasting your money, the worst is
wasting your precious soul.
There are no “church of Christ Hospital”, “church of Christ Internet Café”, “church of
Christ Bakeshop”, “church of Christ Motor Parts Accessories”, and “church of Christ
Purified Water Station”.
As Moses of Old Testament could not held up his hand by his only effort without the
help of Aaron and Hur one on one side because Moses’ hand became heavy when he let it
down Amaleks prevailed against Israel (see Exodus the 17th chapter), the same
situation also here regarding in the work in the Lord in the Philippines. Through
financial help especially the prayers and letters of encouragements of the American
saints to us here through the years, uplifting our hands one on one side. (Mike

Easter Sunday (Johnie Edwards)
There is no such thing as "Easter Sunday" in the Bible. Many people have been led to
believe that there is a special day, set aside by God, called "Easter Sunday". The
religious world has been taught that this
is the day that Christ resurrected from the dead and that we are commanded to observe
the Lord's Supper that Sunday in remembrance of that occasion. Let's take a Bible
look at this.
1) Use Of The Word Easter In The Bible. The word "Easter" does occur in the King
James Version of the Bible. "And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison,
3. 3
and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter
to bring him forth to the people" (Acts 12:4).
2) Easter Refers To Passover. The word translated 'Easter' in Acts 12:4 is
translated 'Passover' 28
times in the New Testament. Only this one time did the translators render it
'Easter.' The American Standard Version renders it properly - 'Passover.'
3) No Example Of Observance. Read the Bible as much as you will, you will not find
one command, or
example, of Christians observing a special day called "Easter". We do read of early
Christians meeting on the first day of the week to break bread (Acts 20:7). We find
them being told to "lay by in store" upon
the first day of the week (I Cor. 16:1-2). But no where are we told to meet for an
"Easter Service"!
4) The Resurrection Of Jesus. The Bible teaches us to remember the death of
Christ. As we partake of
the Lord's Supper, the death and resurrection of our Lord is remembered (I Cor.11:23-
26). This is to be done weekly, not just once a year! Remember Paul said, "Ye observe
days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon
you labour in vain" (Gal. 4:10-11).
