3. Digipak Dimensions
5.59 x 0.34 x 4.93
These are the dimensions for the digipak, this is for the 6 sides.
4. Artists Digipaks
The following slides are to explain how our artist ‘Hugo Stark’ follows the concepts
of these following artists Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding and Kings of Leon. As ‘Hugo
Stark’ is within the same genre as these, we are going to use these to help design
our digipak and to try engage our audience as much as possible and draw in as many
people as possible once it has been completed.
9. Front Cover Photos, Why?
These images are all natural and have not yet been edited in anyway, they were taken on
the iphone 4gs with an 8 megapixel camera.
I have chosen to have this variety of front cover photos as it shows that I have experimented
with different shots and angles. Varying from Low Angle Shots to eye level and also I have
used the majority of the photos as Mid- shots.
Taking these different photos allowed me to experiment and see which looks best but to
also show the group what shots they favoured. The groups feedback was that the use of
scrabble pieces to show the title of the album was a unique and different idea. The group
were surprised at the idea that I came up with, thankfully it was positive feedback and the
group were proud of the shots.
I got the idea of using the scrabble letters in the artists mouth and on
the ends of his fingers as it was an adaption on the previous photo
that I had seen of an artist ‘ Ed sheeran’ on the internet. Here is the
image that I adapted to my own way and used for my inspiration for
the front cover.
12. Inside Photos, Why?
Again these photos have been taken on the same iphone 4gs, with the 8 megapixel
camera, they have not yet been edited and are all still natural.
The affect that I was trying to get with these pictures were as if our artist wasn't under
the pressure of a ‘photos hoot’ I wanted it to look as if I was taking the photo’s of our
artist behaving naturally and I took them without our artist knowing, for example on
one of them I made our artist smirk (8) and then laugh (1) so I quickly took them when
he was in this position.
What I wanted from these photos was a natural look, I feel that this has been met well.
The way that I want these to be set out within the digipak will be a sort of collage affect
of photos rather than focusing on just the one. This was a group decision from the start
so this was a clear instruction of what was wanted, it was just of what our artist was
doing and therefore I thought of natural actions.
The photo that I am most proud of would be (11) as I have been able to capture our
artist in a moving position, here I asked our artist to throw something in the air. I feel I
have captured his movement and reaction to the stimuli well.
14. Studio Photos, Why?
Here these photos were taken in a studio, with an iphone 4 which has a 5 megapixel
camera on it as we were not able to get hold of the iphone 4gs. These are all the
natural photos, we have not yet edited them.
These photos show our artist in his natural environment in the studio, singing and
recording the track, these would be good to include. We all had a joint agreement
as a group and decided that we would stick to having just the photos from the
‘photo shoot’.
We felt that these would be a good selection of photos to have for not only
research but to have within our digipak, unfortunately due to the lighting of the
photos and also being different to the other photos that we have shot they look out
of place compared to the previous photos that we have taken. If we were to include
them within our digipak it may look poor and have bad continuity.
17. Back Cover Photos, Why?
Again these photos were taken with the iphone 4gs and are still in there natural state,
they have not yet been edited.
With these photos I was trying to make it so that they match the front cover, for example
if the front cover was of our artists face on view then the back of the cover could be
either one of the back views (2,4,6,8) or it could be (3) as it is the bottom half of his body
to match the his top, these were to try and match the front with the back.
Photos (1,5,7) were all being considered as ‘ Front Cover’ although talking to the group
we all felt that these would be better as a back cover as it shows our artist hiding away as
if he doesn't want to be seen, hiding behind his hand. We all considered these to be the
most appropriate as you are still able to recognise the artist even with his hand cover half
of his face.
19. Final Decisions (Front Cover), Why?
After Choosing the photos that we felt were the best and worthy of being on the
front cover of our digipak, I then manipulated them using an online tool called
Picnik.
It was decision by the group that we wanted the pictures in black and white,
therefore I did this and the outcome of each photo I feel was to a good quality and
the other members of the group agreed.
Picnik is an online tool where you are able to upload photos/pictures without an
account and also free of charge. You are able to then save the pictures into your
files for later use. It has a various amount of options to choose from to edit your
chosen photo/picture, it is fast and the photo/picture is then saved into your files
ready for use.
21. Final Decision (Inside Cover), Why?
There was only one photo that we had in mind for the inside cover, we feel this one was
the best for it as in the digipak there is writing telling the audience about this album and
thanking them for everything they have done, it shows that our artist is pointing towards
it for it to be noticed.
As you can see the picture was done in stages, first of all I manipulated the image and
then tried it out on the digipak, I thought it would look better if it was a mid-shot rather
than a long-shot. I cropped the image and the final design is complete
These images photos were manipulated using the tools on PowerPoint.
Manipulating Photos:
1. Brightness -10
2. Contrast +40
3. Re- Colour (Grey Scale)
4. Apply
5. Contrast +40
24. Final Decisions Inner side 1/2, Why?
For the inner sides of the digipak I wanted to the images to be a sort of collage
where the images over lap each other, this makes them look more as one image
rather than 4 separate images.
I feel they look better as a group rather than separate, they are all shots that were
previously taken at the ‘Photo Shoot’ doing whatever he felt was comfortable doing
and it makes the photos look natural.
They are all in black and white again as this is the colour scheme that is running
through our digipak and we wanted it to be consistent, all of these photos have
been manipulated using the tools that were available in PowerPoint.
Manipulating Photos:
1. Brightness -10
2. Contrast +40
3. Re- Colour (Grey Scale)
4. Apply
5. Contrast +40
26. Final Decision (Back Cover), Why?
There was only one photo that we had in mind for the back cover, we feel this one was
the best for it as it shows the artist hiding away with a close up on his hand where the
lyrics will be, it is still noticeable that it is our artist but still having the hand in the
majority of the shot makes it a lot harder to be noticed, drawing the focus in the lyrics.
As you can see the picture was done in stages, first of all I manipulated the image and
then tried it out on the digipak, I thought it would look better if it was a close up on
the hand rather that a mid shot . I cropped the image and the final design is complete

This is my official debut album ‘Drunk’. Here you will see
the different sides to me and how I exploit my feelings
through my music.
I would also just like to say a massive thank you to my
fellow peers, they have supported me this whole way
and without them I wouldn't be where I am today. They
have helped to give me the motivation and to get up
when I have fallen, this album is for them.
