F our years. 48 months. 1462 days. No matter how you put it, it’s been a long time
since teams battled it out for the chance to call themselves Unity Cup champions. But
as they say, good things come to those who wait – and let me be the first to tell you: the
2012 edition of the Unity Cup is a VERY good thing.
As awesome as the inaugural version of tournament was back in 2008, we knew that
there’s always room for improvement. We wanted to make sure that this year’s was
even better, so key partnerships were established to help build the event into some-
thing bigger…
A BIG thank-you to Max’s Restaurant for headlining the tournament this year, as ev-
eryone’s favourite Filipino restaurant stepped up in a big way to make everything pos-
sible. If you don’t know why they call it “The House that Fried Chicken Built”, do yourself
a favour and check it out personally!
Flip through the program and take a look around the gym, there’s no doubt that the
Unity Cup is all about creating an experience you won’t find at any other basketball
tournament. It takes a lot of planning and hard work to execute on something like this,
so let’s get the self-props out of the way and congratulate 25-for-Life and All-In on
a job well done.
But we all know that it’s the competition that brings us together and ultimately
it’s basketball-first here at Unity Cup. So we did our best to recruit some of the best
teams available and put money where our mouth is. Bragging rights are great, but
prize money brings out the serious ballers. This year’s champions won’t only get to go
home with the hardware, but their pockets will be a bit fatter too. No one wants to go
home empty-handed.
So let’s take this unique opportunity to showcase our skills, create new rivalries or
build upon old ones, and compete to see who will earn the title of Unity Cup Champions.
Though our passion for ball runs deep and tempers will truly be tested, we trust that
everyone will play within the guidelines of sportsmanship and fair play. After all, we’re
all here for the love of the game.
We can’t thank-you enough for supporting the Unity Cup and we all look forward to
a weekend of amazing basketball action!
Ball Above All.
