The United Nations is an organization of 193 member states working towards global goals like human rights, gender equality, and peace. It was founded in 1945 after World War II to prevent future global conflicts. The UN campaigns on 17 Sustainable Development Goals to improve the world, and has achieved impacts like ending conflicts, combating terrorism and hunger, and promoting human rights. However, there is still work to be done to fully achieve these goals like eliminating poverty and ensuring clean water and sanitation for all.

2. The client: United Nations
The United Nations is an organisation consisting of 193 member states which have
certain goals they are working towards globally. They are tackling issues such as
human rights, terrorism, gender equality, poverty, AIDS pandemic, climate change
and peace. The UN was founded on 24th October 1945, just after World War II, in
the hope of preventing a global conflict from happening again. Each member state
pays a percentage of the budget for the United Nations with the United States
paying 22% of the budget – they pay the most.

What issues does your client campaign on?
The UN campaigns on a number of different issues, they have 17 “Sustainable Development Goals” which are all aiming to improve
the world globally. These goals are

• Affordable and clean energy

What are some of the impacts they have managed to achieve?
The UN has made significant progress worldwide and has had some major impacts. They have had too many impacts to list them
all but here are some of the impacts they’ve had:
• Ending conflicts to bring peace war torn countries
• Combating terrorism
• Alleviating rural poverty
• Fighting hunger
• Turning slums into habitable settlements
• Improved literacy and education
• Promoting human rights & women's rights
• Protecting the environment & combating climate change

4. The issues:
What are they still hoping to achieve?
• All of the 17 sustainable development goals are current issues that the UN are campaigning for and
they’re still hoping to achieve all of them. However, because they are global issues they are hard to
combat quickly and easily. For each individual goal, they have a list of targets they hope to achieve by a
certain date. For example, their first goal is “No Poverty”. The UN say that the “extreme poverty rate has
been cut by half since 1990” but they also say “one in five people, in developing regions, still live on less
than $1.90 a day”. This implies that they have achieved some of their goals, however there is still a lot of
work to do. Another example could be their goal of clean water and sanitation, they’re still working
towards that goal.

• In 2015 there were only 21 female heads of state in the entire world
• Over 150 countries have at least one actively sexist law
• Each minute, 28 girls are married before they are ready

• Within the UN’s first year, the Economic and Social Council established
its Commission on the Status of Women, as the principal global policy-making body
dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. Among its
earliest accomplishments was ensuring gender neutral language in the
draft Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
• On 2 July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously voted to create a
single UN body tasked with accelerating progress in achieving gender equality and
women’s empowerment.
