2. So, you want to become an avid off roading 4x4 enthusiast? Whether you want
you and your family to be safer in the snow, to take the kids to school, or are
aiming to go off roading in your spare time, then this slideshow will guide you in
the right direction.

3. Ensure you buy a 4x4 that suits your needs. For example, are
you looking to buy a 4x4 so that you feel safer on public roads,
or are you wanting to test the vehicles off roading ability?
Deciding between these two will narrow your choice down
dramatically. Remember, not all 4x4's are built for off roading.

4. Now you have narrowed down your choices, you will have a good
idea of which vehicle you're wanting to buy. What we at Milner Off
Road recommend you do now, is check forums and reviews
dedicated to the vehicle you're after. This way you will learn more
about the common faults and what to look out for when you go to
buy the vehicle.

5. Now you have narrowed your list down even further. Now's the time
to check up on how much parts cost, how much it will cost to run,
how much a service will cost you and so on.
A new set of brake pads for a Porsche Cayenne could cost you more
than £200, where as a new set of brake pads and discs for a Hilux
would cost a total of £50 from ourselves. That's a big difference!

6. So, you've now found a few cars that could be "the one". What we suggest
for you to do now is run a vehicle check on all the cars you have shortlisted.
This will allow you to see if the vehicle has been in any previous crashes.
This might not be a worry to you as long as the vehicle has been fully
repaired by a professional. But it is something you should definitely check.

7. If the vehicle checks out after you have ran a vehicle check, then ask the owner
or the garage if it would be possible to take the car on a test drive on road and off
road if possible. This way you will be able to see just how it handles on road and
copes off of it. Many people have brought 4x4s in the past and have been fine on
public roads, but the second they are shown some gravel, sand, mud and so on
they seem to crumble and become just as useful as a 2WD hatchback.

8. If you're not quite sure what you are looking for, and you are trying to become an
avid 4×4 enthusiast, there’s a good chance you will know a mechanic, if so take
them with you to look at the vehicle and they will be able to inspect it for you,
giving you a verdict on what they think and how much you should offer.

9. If the vehicle you have gone to look at, checks out with your mechanic, and
you believe it is the car for you, then now is the time to splash the cash.
We recommend before you go off roading to get used to the vehicle first, but
obviously, now that you're a 4x4 driver you can handle anything.
