I am a research scientist in theoretical condensed matter physics. My work consists in understanding the behaviour of matter at low temperatures and reduced dimensionality. These are the conditions in which exotic quantum phenomena may appear and can be potentially harnessed for building the electronic devices of the future. My current focus is in two dimensional materials and in particular in exploiting graphene (a one atom thick 2D material) for spintronics applications. An efficient control of the quantum mechanical spin degree of freedom of the electron can potentially lead to new, low power consumption devices.
