PRELIMINARY
EXERCISE

Music & costume/props are optional




TASK
Continuity task involving filming and editing a character (who has 1 prop)
        -opening a door,
        -crossing a room
        -sitting down in a chair opposite another character,
        -with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.


This task should demonstrate:
                                                     Also be conscious of:
        -Controlled use of camera (steady filming)
        -Attention to framing                        -speaking clearly (no
        -Variety of shots                            sound problems)
        -Continuity editing
                                                     -being simple &
                   -180 degree rule
                   -match on action
                                                     creative
                   -shot reverse shot                -CONTINUITY!
LOCATIONS FOR FILMING
1) Library
2) Media room – through door, in side room
3) Media room – through door, in main room
4) Media room – corner of room, walk up stairs outside,
   through door, in main room
5) St Claudines


You will choose from a pot and take photos of locations
   before completing planning

Use simplemind or popplet to explore different ideas for your
preliminary, place screen grab


*You could consider your genre to apply if you wish
LOCATION PHOTOGRAPHS
     Photos of your locations


     Make sure you have captions under photos, and get a range
     of angles of the room.

OVERHEAD PLANS
Overhead plans have:
       -the overhead view of the room
      -the camera positions with numbers (for the shots)
…….these numbers co-ordinate with storyboard
       -dotted line to identify movement of camera man

-Number each frame
-EVERY shot must be drawn, including match on action
(every shot)
-drawn with enough detail to understand angle
-under each frame there should be a short description of
shot
-if using any transitions or effects – identify under frame

    Numbers co-ordinate with script and storyboard
    -should have a range of shots including:
              -establishing                    -two
              -over the shoulder               -mid/long/close up/extreme close up etc

You will film on Monday/Tuesday = you choose times
