1. You know that old saying, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.”? Well, it’s incredibly
true when it comes to taking care of yourself and performing well in your life.
Many of us are spreading ourselves so thin trying to juggle our work lives and home
lives that we are neglecting our own needs. In today’s super competitive world, it is more
important now than ever to take care of your needs first so that you can kick butt in all
arenas of life!
We all know that it’s important to eat right and sleep well, but many of us continue
to neglect some very important aspects of self-care. When you’re feeling run down and off-
balance, make sure you’re taking extra good care of yourself and all of your needs,
including:
2. 1. Physical. These are the needs we think of most when referring to self-care. You’ve got to
take care of your physical body and give it everything it needs to run properly. Make sure
you’re getting restful, adequate sleep. Follow a balanced, nutritionally dense meal plan that
works well with your body and makes you feel good. Stay hydrated with mostly water and
avoid unhealthy foods and drinks. Get plenty of exercise, stretch your body, and spend time
outdoors.
2. Social. Social self-care involves surrounding yourself with a supportive network of people
who care about you and have a positive influence on your life. Social connection helps each
of us to develop a sense of belonging, acceptance, connection and confidence. It’s so
important to have people with whom we can connect and trust when we need guidance,
advice or just people to have fun with! Keeping up with relationships is a huge part of
personal upkeep.
3. Intellectual. Intellectual self-care involves the continual pursuit of knowledge, personal
growth, exploring new ideas and activities and stimulating the mind. Self-care of the
intellectual mind keeps us young, sharp, interesting and helps stave off dementia!
4. Emotional. Emotional self-care involves being aware of and dealing with your emotions,
and the way in which you relate with others. It encompasses stress, past emotions,
3. forgiveness and having empathy for others and ourselves. Emotional self-care is often one
of the most difficult for people to learn to deal with and, as a result, the most neglected
type of self-care. It is also one of the most healing and transformative ways to care for
yourself.
5. Spiritual. Spiritual self-care is all about your values and beliefs. It doesn’t have to be
about religion. It’s about the deep values that guide you- mind body and soul.
We know that you’ve got to sacrifice and work hard to achieve your goals. At the
same time, we value the importance of taking care of your needs so you can perform at
your very best!
