A Proof of Stake blockchain is a type of distributed ledger technology (DLT) that uses a “proof of stake” algorithm to validate transactions. This type of algorithm is an alternative to the traditional “proof of work” algorithm used by most DLT platforms, including Bitcoin. Under a proof-of-work system, miners compete to validate blocks of transactions by solving complex mathematical problems. The first miner to solve the problem receives a reward for their efforts. This system is designed to ensure that all blocks are valid and that no single miner has too much control over the network.
