2. BMEs are involved in hospital projects
during
both : Design & Construction phase
3. Role during Design phase
● Assessing the Client
needs of Medical
Equipment & Medical
Furniture
● Determining the
Quantities, Types,
Sizes, capacities of all
medical equipment &
medical furniture
required for the
project as per client
needs
● Estimating the
equipment and
furniture budgets
required
● Consultant
● Architecture layout
● Room datasheet
● Room list
● Equipment specs
4. Relation with other ENGs in site
Provide the project’s Architect, Civil and the Electro-Mechanical Engineers with all
technical data and drawings required to prepare the electro-mechanical design:
● Equipment dimensions
● Floor loads
● Needed electrical power
● Power consumption
● Heat loss
● Water and drainage connections
● Equipment locations
● Medical gases
● Room data sheet
5. Safety precautions and equipment
preparation
Define any safety or environmental requirements regarding equipment location :
● Wall lead shielding
● RF shielding
● Temperature
● Humidity
● Noise level
● Required air pressure and flow
● Floor, wall and ceiling finishing
6. They Play a bridge role between
medical staff and others engineers.
● In projects where Senior BMEs are participating in the medical planning
evaluation they shall assess and report the issues related to patient, staff ,
material and visitors flow, in addition to matters related to infections,
contamination and waste management.
● In renovation hospital projects BMEs are also responsible for the assessment
of all medical equipment and medical furniture available and required to be
used again in the renovated hospital
● In some cases they are involved in departmental spatial analysis and
relationships.
7. Skills must be in medical planner
● Communication
● Scheduling
● Risk Management( clinical eng)
● Cost Management
● Critical Thinking
● Task Management
● Quality Management
