point to make sure the supply of the popular new toy is sufficient to meet the
anticipated demand?
If I were Chuck, the first thing that I would do is choosing the right communication channel.
Communication channel can be simply defined as communication carrier. Each
communication channels have its pros and cont. Each can fit for our specific need depend on
our situation. Based on this case, due to the quickly approaching deadlines, it would have
been ideal for me to choose the communication channel that is high channel richness. In this
case I would then use video call as the means of communication because this option would
have allowed for immediate two-way feedback, personal focus for the communication, direct
experience, and multiple information cues.The use of e-mail by Chuck Moore is not the best
way as e-mail is lower in channel richness. E-mail is impersonal kind of communication, it
also gives slow feedback, user cannot have direct experience and it is more suitable for
documentation purpose as it can be saved as a record.
Secondly I would control my emotion and try to understand the cultural different between
Vicente and me.Of Couse when receiving an e-mailfrom Vicente’s secretary that failed to
answer all of my questions I would getting mad. But it is important to me to be patient and
considerable. Instead of letting my emotions get the best of me, I would have video-called
Vicente personally to clear up the matters at hand. By doing so, Vicente may explain how
their culture of work there. What kind of communication channels that they prefer to be used
for each situation.Contrary with what Chuck did. He failed to control his anger when
receiving such e-mail. So he ridiculed Vicente’s respond to satisfy his emotion to other staffs
including Michael Sato and the Mexican subsidiary’s president.Vicente was madwith Chuck
action. As a result they were disheartened against each other. it just ruined their personal
relationship as well as business relationship.
The main target of communicate with Vicente is to ensure the supply of the popular new toy
sufficient to meet the anticipated demand. Issuing directive is no longer an appropriate or
effective way to get things done. Instead manager should persuade and influence other. To
persuade and influence other manager have to communicate frequently and easily. If I were
Chuck, first I would tell that there was going to be an increase in sales during the holiday
season. This would require an increase in production. By doing this Vicente would realizes
the seriousness of the situation. With this procedure, Vicente could ensure production would
be prepared to meet the quantity of demand. Then I would keep update about the production
progress. The important is having often communication with Vicente that also involves
listening on him, learning his interest and need, leading him to shared solution and care about
the his feeling as to have effective persuasion. By having this easy personal communication,
Vicente may also feel easy to inform if there are any problem that they faced rather than keep
it as a secret as long as no one asking about it.
