- 2. Question One Worked with Fahad Nazor and Tyra Chuck Worked well as a group – good communication We had to film our sequence down to poor organisation (Storyboard) Scheduling was a issue down to additional commitments When we did re do our sequence we stuck to the time given First time round we couldn’t control who used the location facilities, waiting for people to move caused us to loose time. My strengths lie within editing and also help create different types of shots (Knowledge of shots- helped voice my opinion) Weakness is pre production- storyboard let us down first time round

- For my prelim task I worked with Fahad Nazor and Tyra Chuck. We worked well as a group and also communicated well throughout the production process, considering it was the first time meeting each other. We were all on the same page about what we wanted the end product to look like, the expectations were very high set by ourselves. Between the group I think we managed the prelim task well. Our pre production brainstorming looked flawless, but when it came to actually filming it didn’t actually turn out how we expected the first time round. Scheduling was one of our stronger issues, as we all had other commitments- eventually we all agreed on one date and time. We had 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete the filming and a additional hour and a half for editing. We completed the filming in the time we were given but unfortunately we weren't as organised as the other groups. We didn't have a complete storyboard which would have helped guide us through the filming, but ended up re doing our filming as it wasn't good enough to use. We used the time we were given well but the quality of filming let us down. As we didn't live up to our expectations the first time round, as a group we were determined to improve and rectify the mistakes we made the first time round and the biggest one of all have a fully drawn storyboard ready for filming. Another problem we came across in our first set of filming was that we couldn't control who used the location facilities, so the second time round to avoid this problem we filmed inside the premises and at a time that no one would be around. Personally I would say the for this task my strengths lied within editing but also to help create the right type of shots at the right time, being experienced in filming it benefitted me and my group. Knowing what to do helped me to voice my opinion more when working with others, but my weakness is pre production. That’s all the planning, this being my first task I was rearing to get on with the task without the storyboard which did let us down. If I was to re do this task I would simply have a fully drawn story board ready for production and maybe I would like to have a go at filming using the camera.
- When planning our production we had consider many factors such a......Location- we had to make sure we had a location that we could use for the amount of time we needed. Also that it had good lighting that would help improve the quality of our video. We also had to take the weather into consideration for our first set of filming as we filmed the first few shots outside. Equipment- Obviously the most important part is the equipment, all of the equipment was provided by the school to help us. Also we had to consider the weather, as the equipment is very delicate, valuable and can be easily ruined by the rain. Knowledge- We needed to have good knowledge of all the different types of shots and angles to be able to put together a good sequence. When planning we had to consider all elements to a good level, cause if we didn't have one or the other we wouldn't have a very good outcome like the first time and this could’ve have been down to one of the factors- not being organised.
- When filming our prelim task we had to use good quality equipment like the Canon HD Cameras which were provided by the school. They are very delicate objects and had to be handle with good care. There were many features we used on the camera to help us, Another element was the zoom in and out button. The battery is always inserted at the back of the camera and we always set our cameras on ‘A’ – Automatic.We also had a tripod which was very useful to help move the camera around, features such as the spirit level to keep all the shots level. Also the handle to pan from one side to other and a tilt up and down without taking the camera of the tripod which ensured the safety of the camera and any mis-handling. Also the tripod legs allowed us to make the tripod longer and shorter by expanding or contracting the legs. We were given a tape to film our shots on, which had to be put in a certain way, to avoid jamming the camera. When filming we had to consider many factors such as the 180 degree line to avoid confusing the audience.
- Factors we considered when........Planning- When planning we needed to consider many factors such as the different types of shots available to use at different times in the sequence and what would suit each part. We needed to have good knowledge of all the shots, location was a factor as we needed to have access for the amount of time we needed and the availability of the location- as some were in use for lessons.Shooting – While shooting our video it was important that the lighting throughout all the shots were consistent and that all were at the same level by using the spirit level on the tripod. We also needed to consider whether we had enough footage for the video, so if we weren't hundred percent on one shot then it would be a good idea to re take the shot. Also a safety shot is so important when filming we could cut out bits if needed. Editing- As we were working in a group we had to consider each others opinion on which shot should be placed were, and to avoid any conflict within the group. We used Adobe Premiere Software to edit our footage. We had to keep in mind that this software was new to us and as we weren't very familiar with the software we could easily erase vital shots. Also there were new features that were new to us, so it was important to become familiar with the software. The most important factor is that we needed to make sure that all the shots fit in well with each other and that all of it ran fluently.
- Personally I think that our sequence was very successful the second time round. I feel that we were more organised and the end outcome was of good quality. As a team we had good ideas and we worked well together which was one of the reasons for the outcome, as we all had similar ideas about the shots there wasn’t a lot of conflict and the shots produced looked really good and the once edited the flow of the sequence was good overall. If I would re do this task, I would try and fit in more shots such as close ups to show expressions shown by the character, also a high angle and low angle to emphasise power. As this was a prelim task we didn’t want to make it too complex, we just wanted it to look good. Also a script would be a good idea for next time to avoid characters forgetting lines and making it as realistic as we can.
- From this task I have learnt that not being organise can have its effect, as it showed me that it can cause the whole production process to be delayed due to poor filming. I have also learnt that keeping all the shots in chronological order makes it easier when you film. Time management was a issue when it came to actually meeting up and shooting but once we started and were given a time limit, we did complete the task in the given time, so overall we didn't struggle with time. Only when it came to re doing the filming we had to give up our own time to rectify the mistakes we made.We worked really well as a group and felt that we communicated really well within the group as we were all on the same page. I have learnt a lot when it comes to using the camera along with the tri pod, such as the 180 degree line, different types of shots that give different affects (low angle/high angle emphasise power). Also different features on the tripod to improve the quality such as the spirit level to keep all the shots level.
- To edit our footage we used Adobe Premiere, which was a new type of software to me, so learning all the feature of the software was a additional task, but I seemed to pick up the software quickly, and moved most of the shots into the right position and cut of the right amount for the whole sequence to flow fluently. Most of the time we edited together as we all had to ideas of where each shot should be placed. The end product was good and as a group we were pleased. I picked up how to fade shots in and out and also how to fade in and out music very quickly and was able to apply it our sequence. We were given roughly a hour and a half to complete the editing which we did, so in this case we didn't really have any problem with time management. I definitely think that overall editing was one of my strengths, I really enjoyed this processed and adapted well to the new software efficiently. I found it easy to cut and move clips around and was able to help my group understand the editing software better. My weakness is being able to use more of the other complicated features. If I was to redo this prelim task editing I would want more time to edit so I can add more effects.
