2. Have you ever had that
sinking feeling of being
overwhelmed with a project
or situation? Maybe you are
starting a new job, have
recently moved, or had a
problem project come your
way.
Many times overwhelm
happens when we are
disorganized.
3. But is it really worth investing the
time to get organized before we
jump into a new adventure?
There is a well known story about
Abe Lincoln and cutting down a
tree.
It was “Give me six hours to chop
down a tree and I will spend the first
four sharpening the axe.”
So in answer to the question, yes
organization is like the axe
sharpening phase from our
example.
4. Starting to Organize
Let’s pretend we are starting a new
project in our home office.
The first thing we should do is take the
time to organize our office. Make sure that
your desk is clear and only has the
necessary items on it for our daily tasks.
Knick knacks and pictures might be better
located on shelves or out of the way.
5. Many like to set up their phone
and computer screen close
together. The printer may not fit
on top of the desk, so you
should try to put it under the
desk or perhaps on a filing
cabinet.
It’s a challenge to manage
cords, but it is worth the time to
set up these devices properly
now, so you don’t have issues
in the future.
6. Paperless Office?
There was a common buzzword in times past of the
“paperless office.” It’s true there is a lot less paper than
before due to the use of scanning and online storage.
But the concept of a “Paperless Office'' is not entirely
accurate. That's why it's important to have spaces and
places for important papers.
7. To reduce clutter in too much paperwork and to ensure
high security measures it’s a good idea to have a good
crosscut paper shredder in our office. Learn more about
paper shredders:

8. Having a business card is
still a decent idea, as it
can give people the
needed info about you if
they need it. Managing
these items are important
as they are most likely
part of your daily tasks.
9. Although there are so many great organizing apps and
calendars online, if you are a visual person you might want
to set up whiteboards in your office. Also helpful are multi
colored post-it notes. These notes can be color coded to
denote urgency, categories or different projects.
The old saying of “Out of sight, out of mind” can apply to
your projects, so these strong visual reminders are quite
helpful.
It’s also smart to organize your electric outlets so that you
can create docking zones to recharge your phone or
tablets.
10. Online meetings
Zoom is a useful tool for conduction and hosting online
meetings. (www.zoom.com)
That’s why it’s a good idea to set up your workspace so
that you can make sure that you can quickly jump on an
online meeting. This usually means keeping the
immediate space around your desk neat and tidy. It may
also mean positioning your webcam in a good place.
Also make sure to secure a place for your headphones
if necessary. Some have decided to spruce up their
workspace with some nice pictures or flourishes to
make their zoom image more professional.

12. Get Organized by reducing Clutter
The path to success and cultivating a wealth mindset is paved with being
organized and completing goals. That’s why it’s a great idea to schedule a weekly
or bi-weekly time to go through your items and toss out papers or files that aren’t
necessary.
Many people have opted to scan some of these files and keep them organized on
programs like google drive: https://www.google.com/intl/en_ca/drive/download/
As always, its a good idea to keep the scanned files neat, labelled properly and
organized efficiently.
13. These days privacy and security are as important like
never before. That’s why it’s smart to take precautions
online, like a good antivirus or anti-spyware program. Its
smart to not leave passwords or valuable documents lying
around on your desk.
14. Sunday- planning day
Its a smart idea to use a typically slower day,
like a Saturday or Sunday, to plan out for the
next week and to reflect on the activities of
the following week.
This planning day can really help us plot out
what goals we want to accomplish for the
week. It is helpful to have a calendar (online
or paper) to map out what activities and tasks
that we will accomplish on which times and
days.
15. Some like to make to-do lists and find it satisfying to cross
off items as they finish them.
This is an old school idea that is still relevant today.
