We no longer rely on the media writ large for our cultural fix, but often with the media we edit and create for ourselves. Brands need to deliver their message amongst us in real time. We may not have completely abandoned the traditional networks it’s just that we’ve created our own more meaningful and social ones. Vital brands can no longer be delivered in sermons but in theatre. Some big brands still thrash around, looking in all the obvious media places, waving their brand flags but it matters less now because we don’t spend as much time there anymore.
