In this presentation, Shail introduces IoT and associated trends. Shail has a lot of experience in Gesture Based Robot, Wireless Applications, Line follower Robot, Obstacle Avoider, Edge avoider etc. and his interest areas are also the same.

2. INTRODUCTION
• Kevin Ashton coined "Internet of Things" phrase to describe a system where the
Internet is connected to the physical world via ubiquitous sensors.
• The next wave in the era of computing will be outside the realm of the traditional
desktop.
• In the Internet of Things (IOT) paradigm, many of the objects that surround us will be
on the network in one form or another because of the growth of mobile devices,
embedded and ubiquitous communication, cloud computing and data analytics.
• Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and sensor network technologies will rise to
meet this new challenge, in which information and communication systems are
invisibly embedded in the environment around us .
3. DEFINITION
• Internet of Things (IOT) is a computing concept that describes a future where
everyday physical objects will be connected to the Internet and be able to identify
themselves to other devices.
• The term is closely identified with RFID as the method of communication, although it
also may include other sensor technologies, wireless technologies or QR codes.
• The IOT is significant because an object that can represent itself digitally becomes
something greater than the object by itself. No longer does the object relate just to
you, but is now connected to surrounding objects and database data. When many
objects act in unison, they are known as having "ambient intelligence."
4. TECH AND TRENDS
• Internet of Things has been identified as one of the emerging technologies in IT as
noted in Gartner’s IT Hype Cycle. A Hype Cycle is a way to represent the
emergence, adoption, maturity, and impact on applications of specific
technologies.
• It has been forecasted that IOT will take 5–10 years for market adoption.
• Since IOT has come into existence, search volume is consistently increasing with the
falling trend for Wireless Sensor Networks.
• As per Google’s search forecast, this trend is likely to continue as other enabling
technologies converge to form a genuine Internet of Things.
5. • For anyone working in IT, the Internet of Things is trend that can't be ignored. IOT
dominates headlines with catchy stories about connected refrigerators and
wearable tech, along with sensational estimates for the oncoming number of
connected devices.
• Cisco, for example, predicts the number of connected devices will rise from 25 billion
in 2015 to 50 billion by 2020.
• The Internet of Things is on track to be an absolutely huge MARKET.
• BI Intelligence predicts that by 2019:
o IOT device shipments will reach 6.7 billion.
o Revenues from devices, services, and software will reach $600 billion.
o A massive $1.7 trillion of value will be added to the economy in the form of revenues and
efficiency cost savings.
6. APPLICATIONS
The applications can be classified based on the type of network availability,
coverage, scale, heterogeneity, repeatability, user-involvement and impact. We
categorize the applications into four application domains:
• Per- sonal and Home : These information collected issued only by the individuals
who directly own the network.
• Enterprize: Information collected from such networks are used only by the owners
and the data may be released selectively.
• Utilities: The information from the networks in this application domain is usually for
service optimization rather than consumer consumption. It is already being used by
utility companies for resource management in order to optimize cost vs. profit.
• Mobile: Smart transportation and smart logistics are placed in a separate domain
due to the nature of data sharing and backbone implementation required.
7. AREA OF INTERESTS
IMPULSIVE OMNISCIENT TEMERITY
• I am a trained tutee in Advanced embedded systems that are based
on microcontrollers. I also do carry an experience on major projects like Gesture
Based Robot, Wireless Applications, Line follower Robot, Obstacle Avoider, Edge
avoider etc.
• Other than that, I’ve also worked on Applets on Processing, PCB design on Eagle 5.5,
Animation and Picture Display on LED, Wireless Air Mouse, IR Controlled Applications,
Controlling VLC Media Player via gesture.
• These are my areas of interests as I am perfectly trained on ARTRONICS – Advanced
Embedded. Also I have completed 1 month training in ILJIN Electronics (I) Pvt . Ltd.
• I am adaptable with almost every kind of situation. If taught, I can learn things and
work on them to achieve the target.
