1. Name : Shruthi S.H
E-mail: shruthissh@gmail.com
University: Visveswaraya Technological University
Year/Semester: 4th sem
Branch: Computer Network Engineering
2. Internet of Things (IoT) is the
network of physical objects
things, all connected, all
communicating and sharing
information all the time.
Goal : To enable things to be
connected anytime, anyplace,
with anything and anyone
using any path/network and
any service.
Scalability: Order of magnitude
greater than current Internet.
3. The following are current trends in the field of IoT,
Security & privacy: Trust and authentication become critical across all
elements of the IoT, including devices, the networks, the cloud and
software apps.
Standards: Competing proprietary and open source standards efforts have
continued to struggle to come together for common good.
Network bandwidth: As more devices come online, networks will clog and
service providers will be in a never ending battle to increase network
capacity.
Big data: “Things” (sensors, chips, computers) will produce even more
data than we have now, taxing our already complex enterprise
information management systems.
4. Machine-to-machine (M2M) automation: In the future, sensors,
devices and whole IoT systems will be talking to each other,
providing insights and making decisions without human
intervention.
Platform-to-platform integration: Expect movement from closed
platforms toward open IoT platforms that support multiple
applications, devices, and networks.
Software: A huge rush of activity is expected as developers increase
their focus on developing IoT platforms and solutions that upload
data from sensors and perform the analytics necessary to deliver the
insights required for business decisions.
Vertical clouds: Aggregating all this big data and acting on its
findings will best be achieved by capturing, analyzing and
responding from the cloud.
5. The following are the predictions for IoT in next 5years,
IoT and the Cloud : IoT data will be hosted on service provider platforms
as cloud computing reduces the complexity of supporting IoT “Data
Blending”.
IoT and security : IT networks will have an IoT-based security breach,
although many will be considered “inconveniences.” Chief Information
Security Officers (CISOs) will be forced to adopt new IoT policies.
IoT at the edge : IoT created data will be stored, processed, analyzed,
and acted upon close to, or at the edge, of the network.
6. IoT and non-traditional infrastructure : Datacenter and
enterprise systems management will rapidly adopt new business
models to manage non-traditional infrastructure.
IoT and vertical diversification : Today, over 50% of IoT activity is
centered in manufacturing, transportation, smart city, and
consumer applications, but within five years all industries will
have rolled out IoT initiative.
IoT and network capacity : IT networks will transition from
having excess capacity to handle the additional IoT devices to
being network constrained.
IoT and wearables : Within five years, wearables will have evolved
into a viable consumer mass market alternative to smartphones
7. Integration of Cloud computing and Internet of Things, provides,
Cloud solutions lower costs, provides scalability, and flexibility.
It provides cost effective data management.
It offers Security, Reliability, and Resiliency.
Big data adoption would be an key step to successfully address IoT
It can be achieved by building and evolving apps that tap into, analyze and
make smart decisions on fast, Big data.
If given an internship, I would like to work on,
Communication, Security and Management of Data within cloud.
Protocols of IoT.
