2. Introduction
SMAC acronym for Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud.
A new innovation in IT-Industry.
After the previous four era(mainframe era, mini-computing era, personal
computer and client-server era, and the Internet era (or more correctly, the
“Web” era),we are now in the fifth era or the fifth wave of IT technology.
SMAC is the new enterprise IT model delivering an organization that is more
connective, collaborative, real-time and productive.
SMAC (social, mobile, analytics and cloud) is the concept that four
technologies are currently driving business innovation.
It has four pillars i.e. Social Mobile Analytics and Cloud.
3. Social : This platform enables new way of interactions as well as interactions between internal
and external stake holders.
Mobile : This platform and application helps interact stake holders “on the go”, and it lend
agility and connectivity for greater efficiency.
Analytics : Analytics means scientific and systematic analysis of data. It provide insight for
optimal interaction through listening and correlation and also helps in optimize resource
planning and identify enterprise bottlenecks.
Cloud : Simple meaning of Cloud in context of SMAC is using software applications as a service
without buying them. Service is offered remotely through internet and a usage charge is paid
to seller. Portal based cloud application helps customers interacts over the internet and it also
enables scalability while hosting enterprise resources
SMAC creates an ecosystem that allows a business to improve its operation & get closer to the
customer with minimum overhear and maximum reach.
While social, mobile, analytics and cloud technologies add a new dimension to your business
model, to fully maximize their value consider the sum is greater than its parts.
The formula for the Future of Work is called SMAC - social, mobile, analytics and cloud on one
integrated stack, where each function enables another to maximize their effect.
4. TRENDS
Retail Sector :
Retailers are strategically deploying the SMAC Stack across key business processes
Now a customer’s mobile device can signal store management while they’re shopping.
Advanced analytics arm associates with the right knowledge about that shopper so they can
provide more valuable assistance.
And customers can compare products, get information and redeem targeted offers from the
Cloud while in store
Financial, Hospitality and Banking Sector :
Key factors :
Getting updated all the time.
Access a large number of database.
Network also has the potential to use analytics to push out personalized insights.
Robust financial platform for transaction
All type of information is transferred digitally and stored in the Cloud for further analytics and
processing
5. TRENDS
Today’s SMAC -‘the fifth wave’ of IT architecture—is happening faster than
anything that’s come before.
By 2020, as many as 100 billion computing devices will be connected to the Web
and corporations will be managing 50 times the data they do currently.
So SMAC will have a multiplying effect on businesses and increase productivity
across the organization.
6. INTERESTED AREA
In SMAC I am interested in Cloud Computing technology because Cloud
computing is a valuable driving force that offers businesses a cost effective
way of building flexibility and enterprise agility for better productive
outcomes for business. The cloud technology helps create a more cost
effective IT ecology and infrastructure for organizations with the ability of
businesses to cut down the costs for maintaining a physical server.
As the power of the cloud spreads, one effect will be to make software and
computing more invisible. If given an internship in this area, i intend to work
on making computers invisible.
