2. Impact of GHG emissions on CSR in USA
Global warming & Climate Change
Global warming has become a international issue these
days and all countries are concerned about it. Today, there
has been an growing moment in study on greenhouse gas
emissions; as these emissions can have a significant
impact on global climate (Jones et al., 2017). The main
reason behind climate change is the discharge of
greenhouse gases. These greenhouse gases composed
of many harmful gases in the environment and include
Carbon dioxide (CO2), Nitrous Oxide (N2O), Methane
(CH4) and many other harmful gases.
4. Impacts of global warming and
climate change
• The increase in natural calamities like rise in sea level,
floods, storms, drought and increase in insurance claims
are all results of increased proportions of GHG emissions
(Solomon et al., 2007; Greil, 2011). Further, in the coming
century, due to heavy industrialization a rise of 5–6°C in
average global temperatures is expected which could
decrease the global gross domestic product (GDP) by an
average of 5–10% (Stern,2007).
• The following horrible pictures will give an idea about
severity of the issue without caring developed and
underdeveloped countries.
6. Research Questions
• Q1: Is firm’s GHG emissions reduction efforts are accepted by society and there
is an increase in its CSR Rating as a result of this emission reduction?
• Q2: Whether a firm takes its high CSR Rating as strategy and get itself involve
intentionally and voluntarily in GHG emission mitigation to get better GHGE
score?
