3. What is a Makerspace?
A place where students can explore their own
interests, learn to use tools and materials, and
develop creative projects for academic or
personal reasons.
It sparks curiosity and engages critical thinking.
Students can come together to share their
knowledge and connect with others who have
similar interests.

Supports the mission of libraries to enable lifelong learning
and to support knowledge creation in their schools

9. Libraries and Makerspaces
Access! Some students may not have the materials (or
time!) at home to develop their creativity or try new
projects.
This is similar to the idea of providing access to all
types of print & online resources for personal and
academic pursuit.
We want our students and staff to know that the library
is about learning, creating knowledge, trying something
new, and collaborating with others.

Big-Picture Target: To elevate the library as a learning
centered space in our school community
Goal SY 2016-2017: Launch a functioning makerspace in
the library for students to productively create
knowledge individually & collaboratively.
Looking Ahead: The makerspace will be an integral part
of learning and innovation at Rocky Run before, during,
and after renovation.

STUDENT run & STUDENT focused
A place for staff to learn, too!
When: During Rock Time, before/after school, pass-based
system, but available for whole-class use
STEAM-focused, including crafts, electronics, and design.

Makerspaces have the potential to revolutionize the way
we approach teaching and learning.
Parents’ support of students’ learning is vital to their
success.
Do you (or someone you know) create? Make? Design?
Come do a workshop or video to share your
knowledge with students!
