A fashion week is a fashion industry event, lasting approximately one week, which allows fashion designers, brands or "houses" to display their latest collections in runway shows and buyers and the media to take a look at the latest trends. Most importantly, these events let the industry know what's "in" and what's "out" for the season. The most prominent fashion weeks are held in the five fashion capitals of the world: Milan, Paris, New York, London and Berlin.[1] Other notable week-long fashion events are held in cities around the world.

The history of fashion design refers to the development of the fashion industry which designs clothing and accessories.The modern industry, based around firms or fashion houses run by individual designers, started in the 19th century with Charles FrederickWorth who was the first designer to have his label sewn into the garments that he created.
  4. Fashion is a Canadian fashion magazine published by St. Joseph Media. Established in 1977, it is currently based inToronto (with satellite offices inVancouver, Calgary and Montreal), publishes 10 issues a year and has a total readership of 1.85 million (PMB Oct 2010).

Seven countries have established an international reputation in fashion: France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, and Belgium.
